yesterday with I don't know what - I was cleaning the kitchen and then I noticed my pinky was bloody & cut-up! I am quite pissed off about it actually

This morning, when I was in the bath, I found two tiny litle cuts on the underside of my left arm which I hadn't noticed the day before. How do these things get there?

melton mowbray (adr), Sunday, 12 February 2006 00:51 (nineteen years ago)

A month ago, reached into the sink to pick up a cutting board, the 6" knife was down there too.

I was freelancing in the new york times marketing division a few months ago, printing fake ads onto newsprint, cutting the ads with old razor blades against a metal rule, then gluing the ads into actual times newspaper pages, to show what a potential advertisers ads would look like in the times. I sliced very deeply into my thumb and it still feels weird.

Just now, apparently!

No wait, that's tomato sauce.

When shaving this Friday.
I have a nice Gillette Mach3 triple-line scar right below my left eye.
Like a goth Adam Ant.

oh oh oh! I just did this a few days ago! After going for a very long accident-free time. And I did it in a very weird way:
I was reaching up to the second shelf in my kitchen to get a small glass bowl out of a big glass bowl and somehow they both slipped and the smaller glass bowl BROKE inside the bigger one and in the process of me catching them both, I caught hold of a broken bit of bowl and sliced my palm about half an inch above my wrist! The blood actually came out and POOLED in my palm. And there was another deep cut on my other hand btwn thumb and finger too! I took care of it, spent a couple hours in the residue of shock, and now it looks pretty good really. crazy.

My list would be embarassing for me, as I average two or three minor cuts a week. Clumsiness is teh suck.

shaving, with new razor. just enough blood to be annoying, since I was going out that night.

In early December, I had just finished doing yoga and was cutting up lemongrass and ginger to make some Thai curry. I was all mellow, and distracted as I was talking to my dad on the phone. I didn't even have my hand near the cutting board, but absentmindedly moved my hand and my very sharp Wusthof chef's knife into the same place at the same time.

It didn't hurt but I knew I had cut my finger really bad. I stuck it under the faucet and the tip tilted back, so I informed my dad that I had business to take care of. My wife figured out what happened, saw my finger and got us ready to go to the ER.

This is when I began to marvel at the wonders of the human body - I got a huge, massive adrenaline and endorphin rush that was pretty intense and made me laugh giddily on the ride there. After two lidocaine shots into my finger and a couple of big spurts of blood I ended up walking out an hour later with six stiches in my left index finger. In my 31 years I had never had stitches or an ER visit so both of these were a first for me. Two months later I have a nice inch long scar.

Overall, it was kind of interesting as it never really hurt at all. Thank you insurance for covering most of the $600 bill.

ugh, that looks like one that happened to me in school. A friend was scraping a pica ruler along a table, I grabbed it stop the noise, he pulls it out of my hand, I end up bleeding all over the journalism dept.'s floor and get ten or twelve stitches along my middle finger.

I love the parenthetical aside in this thread title.

The outside of my fingers every time I play drums, on the edge of the snare (I'm guessing). Once on my index finger you could see thr bone and I had to go to hospital. All my skins have blood spattered on them.

S- (sgh), Monday, 13 February 2006 01:24 (nineteen years ago)

aaah. that photograph made my stomach jump. glad your finger is ok though.

i cut the back of my knee shaving pretty recently, nothing unusual. today my dog cut his tail on something somehow, though, that's a little more interesting. we don't know how but we noticed from the spots of blood that appeared around dog-height on our pants. we thought he had cut his gums on something he ate so we spent a long time holding his mouth open and staring until we realized it was his tail.

Maria (Maria), Monday, 13 February 2006 01:32 (nineteen years ago)

More of a puncture than a cut, really, but anyway...I stapled my index finger while putting up some student work in my classroom last week. It took a little while to pry out the staple and it really hurt. I was only using one hand, due to my broken wrist. Like that's any kind of excuse.

Arthur (Arthur), Monday, 13 February 2006 01:37 (nineteen years ago)

Hee, that stitched finger looks like a little fingerpuppet christ.

I gave myself a hell-nasty papercut last week, well a cardboard cut really; sliced my little finger on a manila folder.

Havent had a majorly bad cut in years. Never had stiches.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 13 February 2006 01:59 (nineteen years ago)

I was absentmindedly shooting staples and catching them in my open hand, when i started getting really interested in the conversation going on beside me. Without paying attention I somehow put my finger up against the stapler, pressed, and well, now i have two holes in my index finger. It hurt to take out...

I cut my finger when i was slicing a roll today. no significant blood.

I whacked my head open on an open cupboard door, causing a great profusion of bleeding, on the evening of my housewarming party. But is that a cut, or a lacerated contusion?

Boris and the Johnsons (kate), Friday, 17 February 2006 13:56 (nineteen years ago)

It's a gusher.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Friday, 17 February 2006 13:59 (nineteen years ago)

ow ow ow, freakin' cupboard doors. I've done that before house parties too!

A couple days ago, I somehow managed to stab myself underneath my middle fingernail - on a small piece of peeling paint! - while hanging up my towel on the back of my bedroom door. I had to go in with tweezers, surgeon-like - it took 10 minutes and some pain.
The hand gash mentioned above now looks just fine! The miracle of p0lysporin.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Friday, 17 February 2006 14:14 (nineteen years ago)

Ow, ow, I hate the under-the-nail stab, ouch!

Boris and the Johnsons (kate), Friday, 17 February 2006 14:15 (nineteen years ago)

About two weeks ago. A large paper cut from the cardboard surround to a tub of low-fat hummous. My friend Caroline phoned while I was packing my groceries up in Waitrose. The middle classes bleed too.
