you know the kind where you pay a monthly fee and they mail you DVDs in the mail and its sometimes unlimited DVD a month or something. Is it worth it. Any good companies to recommend. How fast do they deliver?

I'm a member of Columbia House... you don't pay a monthly fee, you just get a few "free" dvds, and then you are obliged to buy 3 more in 2 years. It's really cool, I'd recommend it.. plus, you can quickly open an account, fulfill it, and open a new one.. it's great for building a nice collection. The selection isn't the GREATEST, but they do have some great stuff.

Depends where in the world you live. Screen Select are fine in the UK. Lovefilm were idiots last time I did their trial.

A problem with Amazon was pointed out to me by someone on their rental scheme. They very rarely got new releases when they were released unless they reserved them (i.e. put them on their rental list) way ahead of the films release date. Which frankly sounds like a bit of a pain. Anyone else know that this is a problem?

I'm tempted because it's a lot cheaper than Blockbuster and the selection is huge - especially back catalogue stuff, BFI stuff, BBC odds and sods...things you can't get in the aforementioned Blockbuster.

i'm with love film dot com

generally worth the money especially if you are the kinda person who can never quite decide which film you wanna rent or buy as it kinda sorts that for you

The problems I had when I was last with Lovefilm (I cancelled in August 2005 in a rage) were as follows:

- They were unable to handle a queue with multiple disc series, and regularly sent me disc 2 of 24.
- Many scratched discs.
- They sent me soft porn instead of what I asked for once. (Who likes soft porn? People who don't like porn don't like it, and people who like porn don't like it. What's the point?)

They were working on a solution to the first problem when I left (I have an email from Tom Brown in customer support to prove this), but I get the impression they just don't get enough copies of new stuff in.

You can get by for a few months entirely on free trials too. (e.g. Screen Select doing 30 days now — http://www.dvdtrials.co.uk/)

I have found Lovefilm ok (at least w/regard to timely deliveries and sending what I actually ask for). But the multiple disc thing is a problem.
