The Guys and Dolls Law of Delayed Echolalia

Many years ago my brother and I went to see "Guys and Dolls" (this particular version had Lorna Luft in it, and maybe even a pre-famous Nathan Lane and his sidekick Ernie Sembella, I can't remember if it was them or not). Our parents passed the tickets off on us, since they were sick of seeing it. We got home, and my father goes "So, how was the musical?" "Oh it was good." Then, Dad starts immediately into the unsolicited opening lines of the show: "I got da horse right here, da name is Paul Revere..."

A few days later, we were talking to a friend of the family, also a big theater-buff. We mentioned that we went to see Guys and Dolls, and instantly he breaks into: "I got da horse right here, da name is Paul Revere..." This happened a couple of additional times, with other people.

Has anyone else observed this almost Seinfeldian effect with Guys and Dolls? If so, how far do they get past the "Paul Revere" line? Have I discovered a hitherto unknown Law of the Universe?

Are you referring to the "master of the house" thing?

Hey, I learned a new word today! Thanks, Joe.

I will test TG&DLoDE and report back.

Yes, definitely a "Master of the House" kind of thing. Maybe it's only with the older generation (who are the most familiar with Guys and Dolls in the first place)?

Surely with MY generation (ahem) if you mention Guys and Dolls they should start singing

guys and dolls
we're just a bunchacrazy
guys and dolls

Mention G&D to my lot, and Joe, they break 'And its good ol' reliable Nayyy-thahn, Nay-than, Nay-than, Nathan Detroit...'.
