Go thrifting in what remains of the thrift shops in Redwood City and visit Stanford's very pretty campus.

And when exactly do you arrive, Toby?

Take Caltrain. I have a friend who works at Stanford who takes it every workday.

One legitimate answer to the question: leave.

Sunday, hmm. Schedule will probably be too tight to see if we can meet up for a chat and drink, alas! Another time.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 23:04 (nineteen years ago)

ah well, ned - maybe providence/boston later in the year, i suspect...

Hi Toby! Will you have time for a drink?

Too Gay for America (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 23:14 (nineteen years ago)

I will bring you Narod Niki.

Too Gay for America (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 23:14 (nineteen years ago)

I've never been to Palo Alto.

If you have a car, take a drive up to Skyline Blvd. and eat at Alice's Restaurant.

The Equator Lounge (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 23:16 (nineteen years ago)

Is that Alice's Resturant from the Woody Guthrie movie?

Is that Alice's Resturant from the Woody Guthrie movie?

If memory serves, the Arlo Guthrie movie was filmed out in Great Barrington, MA, so no. The food at the Woodside restaurant is terrific, especially for breakfasts.

ARLO, right.

The Winchester Mystery House is down in San Jose.

Fremont across the bay has a terrific selection of Afghan restaurants.

The Computer History Museum in Mountain View is pretty cool too

i have narod niki, adam! although i've only heard it once. but thanks. i might have time for a drink, although that's somewhat unclear. i'm actually getting in saturday, i've just realised, although i'll be good for nothing then, i'm sure. sunday's free, monday-fri might well be math-filled.

thanks for all the answers, everyone - i'm off to bed now, but keep them coming...

You must kneel at Kedlaya's feet and sup from his p-adic wisdom.

But if you get bored of that: Straits Cafe, the Singaporean/pan-Asian place just a few blocks from AIM, is surprisingly good (though expensive.) There was a pretty good sushi place a little farther up the same street. Some good Asian grocery stores worth browsing. Other than that, I've gotta admit I'm out of entertainment ideas.

Palo Alto is pretty nice as far as the peninsula is concerned, but yes, get on the Caltrain and go to SF as often as possible.

Go hiking on Windy Hill. There's an old movie theatre on University, I think. Sit in on lectures in the linguistics department. All in the name of GREAT FUN.
