go on. let it all out.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 16 February 2006 11:12 (nineteen years ago)

not enough challenges. no sassy young chix0rs to banter with.

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Thursday, 16 February 2006 11:15 (nineteen years ago)

my job sux because it is no longer what i went into the job to do anymore.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 16 February 2006 11:17 (nineteen years ago)

doesn't pay well.

ocassionally have to deal w/obnoxious people.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 16 February 2006 11:18 (nineteen years ago)

also, many suppliers don't keep enough stock, so i'm always having to wait for bits for repairs. that's consistently annoying.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 16 February 2006 11:21 (nineteen years ago)

Involves more filing than I'd like. Poorly paid. Underappreciated by boss. Not enough to do. No scope for creativity. No office to hide in.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 16 February 2006 11:27 (nineteen years ago)

My boss sing irritatingly all the time. He's singing now.

Steve.n. (sjkirk), Thursday, 16 February 2006 11:35 (nineteen years ago)

Everything (tools, IT policy) seems to be designed specifically to be an obstacle to me doing any work. It's very frustrating.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Thursday, 16 February 2006 11:40 (nineteen years ago)

Oh yes and my boss prefers to run things like a feudal system rather than a workplace.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 16 February 2006 11:43 (nineteen years ago)

A feudal system?

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Thursday, 16 February 2006 11:44 (nineteen years ago)

My job is pretty sweet. Imagine no boss on premisise, all the internet access you desire, access to cable tv, dvd player, a kitchen stocked with food, chatting with co worker as much as desired, reading of books allowed, playing guitar allowed - and getting paid more than the day staff!

Mr Jones (Mr Jones), Thursday, 16 February 2006 11:46 (nineteen years ago)

oh man, how long have you got?

Poor pay, no incentives to do well, unappreciated, crap management.

Am currently working on a team that should have 18 people on it. There are currently 2 of us on it and we’ve just received 3 months worth of backdated work, all of it urgent.

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Thursday, 16 February 2006 11:46 (nineteen years ago)

Feudal system - if you step out of line you're screwed. And she is obsessed with observing hierarchy to the extent that she will barely even make eye contact with those of us at the 'bottom' of it.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 16 February 2006 11:52 (nineteen years ago)

Being moved from mini-project to mini-project means I have no idea what my proper job actually involves.

James Ward (jamesmichaelward), Thursday, 16 February 2006 12:03 (nineteen years ago)

You do get to email me though, James.

I posted to this thread earlier and it ate my reply. My answer was "because I don't have the motivation to make the most of a great opportunity".

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 16 February 2006 12:05 (nineteen years ago)

That, and the fact that I sometimes share a lift with Dawn French are all I live for.

James Ward (jamesmichaelward), Thursday, 16 February 2006 12:08 (nineteen years ago)

low pay. buck-passing between departments. incompetence in one of said departments. government rep interference. air-conditioning doesn't work in summer, heater doesn't work in winter. me doing jobs that haven't been on my position description for seven months due to "tardy" rehiring practices. me just taking on a project that will end in disaster. company director's hilarious double-standards re: office "gossip". me apparently getting passed over for promotion opportunity due to being honest in performance review. my two best friends at the company (the other two members of my department, no less) leaving in the next couple of months.

doctor wu-tang clan analog brothers (haitch), Thursday, 16 February 2006 13:20 (nineteen years ago)

my boss at my campus job is retiring while i'm studying abroad, so the new boss may not give it back to me. otherwise it doesn't suck and i really really really it back because i am at a stage of my life that involves spending thousands of dollars more than i have ever earned.

Maria (Maria), Thursday, 16 February 2006 14:43 (nineteen years ago)

My job is good except I don't like the person I have to work with on Thursday nights and we are both required to be at the desk together for three hours' straight. Three very long, excruciating hours.

notmary (Mary), Thursday, 16 February 2006 21:38 (nineteen years ago)

I can't surf the internets.

jeffrey (johnson), Thursday, 16 February 2006 21:51 (nineteen years ago)

dealing with the pro se. i JUST got off the phone with one. i really need a drink.

ai lien (kold_krush), Thursday, 16 February 2006 21:59 (nineteen years ago)

Go look at the Valentine's Day thread.

Dan (Fuckers) Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 16 February 2006 22:04 (nineteen years ago)

i'm going to dangle out of the third floor window to smoke a cigarette.

ai lien (kold_krush), Thursday, 16 February 2006 22:09 (nineteen years ago)

I really like my job at the moment.

Codename: Paul Scholes (nordicskilla), Thursday, 16 February 2006 22:14 (nineteen years ago)

crap benefits

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Thursday, 16 February 2006 22:16 (nineteen years ago)

I NEED INTERACTION.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 16 February 2006 22:22 (nineteen years ago)

i interact with the animals.

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Thursday, 16 February 2006 22:26 (nineteen years ago)

pay is so low i'm taking a 2nd job to survive. massive bureaucratic ossification. work among folks who are nice enough but not overly bright, nothing new to learn, no chance to get experience on projects, no real chance for advancement.

also, the daily torture from being surrounded by folks who are doing exactly what I want to do and spent years learning how to do, and who make many times my salary.

kingfish has gene rayburn's mic (kingfish 2.0), Thursday, 16 February 2006 22:30 (nineteen years ago)

- no money
- still no benefits yet
- feel tired all the time from physical labor
- have to deal with people's garbage
- have to deal with people's weirdness
- work in shitty part of town that's always crowded with tourists, douchebags
- work in shitty town
- have to get to work earlier than any of my direct co-workers

tho:
+ ian johnson!!!
+ "entertainment" industry!!!!

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 16 February 2006 22:30 (nineteen years ago)

my boss is a 32yo ex frat-daddy moron who married the founder's (no genius himself, but his hard work helped take a one-man operation to the Inc500 list in a few short years) daughter. He INSISTS on being the go-to guy for our bigger clients, but he continually botches - or completely forgets - important details, deadlines, etc. When everything goes to shit, it's a few of us unlucky bastards that spend the weekend and/or 15+ hour workdays fixing the mess while he's out golfing or logging flight time in his single-engine Cessna. He also "dips".

Will(iam), Thursday, 16 February 2006 22:31 (nineteen years ago)

I wish I worked with Ian Johnson.

Codename: Paul Scholes (nordicskilla), Thursday, 16 February 2006 22:32 (nineteen years ago)

stence are you a sanitation worker?

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Thursday, 16 February 2006 22:33 (nineteen years ago)

i might as well be.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 16 February 2006 22:33 (nineteen years ago)

They get good benefits, though, don't they?

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Thursday, 16 February 2006 22:35 (nineteen years ago)

They never have to wait in line.

Codename: Paul Scholes (nordicskilla), Thursday, 16 February 2006 22:35 (nineteen years ago)

zero challenges
half the 4 man team I work with useless and or maliciously lazy/dishonest/thieves.
shop flooded with stupendously annoying tourists
impending feeling of fighting a losing battle in trying to make the place do well, guilt at this feeling, guilt at complaining to boss about outrageous bullshit co-workers , guilt at not complaining to boss about outrageous bullshit co-workers do to.
zero extra pay to match extra responsibility, admittedly taken on voluntarily.
zero authority to actually ensure the shop does ok when left in charge.

should I go on? maybe I should stop before I depress myself. mostly I hate working with dishonest assholes.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 16 February 2006 22:36 (nineteen years ago)

yeah they're probably union. and private contractors are probably "union."

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 16 February 2006 22:36 (nineteen years ago)

It was potentially sux, now rather less.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 16 February 2006 22:43 (nineteen years ago)

ahhh lets seee. not to be a penis, but my boss is gay and he only promotes gay men or women and its been that way for 10 years....

Actually, I'm one of the few staight people in this office.

im the only male in the dept besides my manager and the vp. I report directly to the vp. Believe me, its a much more complicated situation than i presented earlier. Im almost considering a lawsuit.

slow jamz and white guy indie acoustic shit (Chris V), Thursday, 16 February 2006 22:53 (nineteen years ago)

oh and manager and vp are gay. and im the furthest thing from a homophobe...by the way.

slow jamz and white guy indie acoustic shit (Chris V), Thursday, 16 February 2006 22:53 (nineteen years ago)

basically i have a massive reverse discrimination case on my hands.

slow jamz and white guy indie acoustic shit (Chris V), Thursday, 16 February 2006 23:05 (nineteen years ago)

He also "dips".

what does this mean?

xp

dips = uses chewing tobacco? C'mon, Phil -- where are your midwestern credentials? :)

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 16 February 2006 23:08 (nineteen years ago)

I spent the last two days on a training course and was off work for a week before that, and my back was so much better as a result that I was able to get off the train this morning without having to hold on to any of the hand rails for help. Today I was back in the shop for a full day and by the time I got to my stop this evening I could hardly stand up and worried that the train would move on with me still on it, stuck in a kind of half-crouch, unable to move because of my back pain. I don't think I should stay in my job much longer.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Thursday, 16 February 2006 23:10 (nineteen years ago)

blah blah...and my boss is a major assHOLE!

slow jamz and white guy indie acoustic shit (Chris V), Thursday, 16 February 2006 23:10 (nineteen years ago)

I love my job, but being a freelance assistant means the worst thing is waiting for the work...(or having to do lots of extra bs social networking every few months to keep my name in circulation)...

Le Soccer du Printemps, Thursday, 16 February 2006 23:11 (nineteen years ago)

one of my bosses is gay and he's totally cool. total non-factor in work sucking. ?why am i even writing this?

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 16 February 2006 23:12 (nineteen years ago)

because I'm leaving it in a month!

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Thursday, 16 February 2006 23:13 (nineteen years ago)

what are you going to do matos, if you don't mind my asking?

I have an interview for another job tomorrow, though sadly it doesn't pay so I won't be leaving my current job for it. Though it may pave the way to doing so in future.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 16 February 2006 23:27 (nineteen years ago)

today one of our instructors was in the office, teaching a course in the conference room, and when she came out on break she asked my coworker, the new community-outreach guy (who, incidentally, is kicking ass at the job so far) what he did all day and whether he sat around playing video games.

nobody who was in earshot quite knew how to process that.

I can't be the only person who read hstencil's post and assumed he was working in a strip club?

Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Friday, 17 February 2006 01:20 (nineteen years ago)

he's not?

tokyo nursery school: afternoon session (rosemary), Friday, 17 February 2006 01:24 (nineteen years ago)

oh good point I guess.

Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Friday, 17 February 2006 01:27 (nineteen years ago)

i work in a policy office, which i love, but 'our' politician recently resigned due to depression. his replacement is in the throes of making substantial changes to portfolio arrangements and it appears likely that my position (and those of my coworkers) will be either swallowed up or moved out to a mainstream agency. booo. the crappest part about that is we don't know when it will happen or even when it will be confirmed.

gem (trisk), Friday, 17 February 2006 01:28 (nineteen years ago)

still at work

Codename: Paul Scholes (nordicskilla), Friday, 17 February 2006 01:49 (nineteen years ago)

still here

Codename: Paul Scholes (nordicskilla), Friday, 17 February 2006 02:02 (nineteen years ago)

Office too small. Always looking at a co-worker's back if I leave my office door open. Colleagues in NY putting nonsensical demands on my time. People not reviewing material on time. People asking for things on too-short deadlines. Salary too low for experience in DC market.

phil d. (Phil D.), Friday, 17 February 2006 02:06 (nineteen years ago)

Because I went to resign due to hating the ridiculously unpaid-overtime shiftwork helpdesk job, only to be talked into staying.

Somehow this has involved a drop in pay and now I'm doing twice the work. But hey! Now I get to be an "admin assistant". Even though what I'm actually doing is all the ordering, and half of the sales guys (who get comissions) work.

I also work with my best friend and cannot cope with his angry stress, and am getting shitty at him which is a bit distressing.

But hey at least I work 9-5 now and no one cares if I am in late or if I ILX/LJ now and then.

y'all are kidding, right? did your eyes misread "ian johnson" for "free blowjobs??!?!"

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 17 February 2006 04:09 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe I misread it as "free entry to strip clubs for Ian Johnson"

Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Friday, 17 February 2006 15:07 (nineteen years ago)

Wow, congrats M. Matos!

Jaq (Jaq), Friday, 17 February 2006 15:19 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, of course I am completely serious and think you work in a strip club.
