Apparently, there was an article about the author of this photo in Wired magazine. Basically that hairy creature thing is supposed to be a symbol of all the flaws of humanity and he depicts the creature in different settings. Apparently, he spends up to a couple thousand dollars per shot with the makeup, set, cg creatures and what not.
Does anyone have any additional information?

We carried this at Kim's, when I worked there -- it was mostly really affecting, in a sad/horrifying way. Can't remember the photographer's name, though.

disturbing. I know I will have some kind of horrifying dream about this tonight. Oh, art, I guess you are doing your job then...

didn't Diesel do a campain either using these photos or something very similar?

team jaxon (jaxon), Friday, 17 February 2006 22:25 (nineteen years ago)

That looks like the work of a contemporary photographer-- Larry something or other I want to say. He has a whole series of photos with that creature. His other job is doing Hustler photoshoots IIRC.

Sparkle Motion's Rising Force, Friday, 17 February 2006 22:35 (nineteen years ago)

oops looks like somebody already ID'd it. And I was wrong on the name... I guess not all photographers are named Larry.

Charlie White! The monster guy's name is "Joshua."
I saw these photos when he was first given a show for this stuff. They have haunted me ever since then.

Also: He directed the video for "Evil" by Interpol, I believe, which is also creepy as hell and has Paul Banks rendered as a similar looking puppet.

I think Diesel may have ripped off the concept, actually.

i also saw (the first?) charlie white show- "understanding joshua" at andrea rosen several years ago. the photos are all large format, i think actual size. it was frightening and confusing and fantastic. repulsive and titilating and vibrant and disturbing. i hated joshua because he never left my mind and i've yet to find anyone else that had seen him, until now.

Wow. Who would have guessed those were under that black square?

StanM (StanM), Saturday, 18 February 2006 09:10 (nineteen years ago)

the first time i saw them, i had dreams about him for weeks afterwards. the tenderness, the seeking of acceptance, connecting, and the failures of communication. i think most days, im joshua i think, i feel msot days like joshua, but joshua has succeded, w. friends. family. lovers. he has redemmed himself despite his difficulties.
