Graham, Friday, 18 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

according to the BSLLC, between 8 and 10 cans should not be exceeded (nb. if pregnant this is between 3 and 4 cans)*

uk standard.

gareth, Friday, 18 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I wonder what a Dr. Pepper contaminated baby would turn out like.

Nicole, Friday, 18 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It would be so misunderstood.

MarkH, Friday, 18 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

it would listen to indie

gareth, Friday, 18 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Always with the indie.........

Ronan, Friday, 18 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

DR PEPPER BENDER!

Dan Perry, Friday, 18 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The taste doesn't really appeal to me.

XStatic Peace, Friday, 18 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Graham, Graham, how can you win Rainy's heart when you are such a soda-sudden lush?

Ned Raggett, Friday, 18 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Graham, can you drink a case of Dr. Pepper in an hour or so? If so, the Bloodhound Gang will give you a crisp $100 bill!

Oh, and you have to sit through one of their shows as well, which may prove more difficult.

felicity, Friday, 18 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The only winner in this gross sugery experiment is Dr Pepper. Don't be fooled.

Al, Saturday, 19 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

were you trying to say sugary or surgery?

ethan, Saturday, 19 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

None. It's rotten stuff.

Maria, Saturday, 19 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Spell it as you say it! No, you're right. The above posting should include the word 'sugary'. Apologies to all for my temporary dyslexia. Talking of suchlike: Did you hear about the dyslexic devil worshipper who sold his soul to santa!

Al, Saturday, 19 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

four months pass...
I haven't had any Dr Pepper for ten whole days. This hurts me.

Graham, Monday, 17 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I haven't been clubbing in 16 days. I am all the crankier for it. I also haven't talked to anyone I know well besides my brother in about ten days. I have drank for about 12 days in a row due to the intense oven like heat of London.

I have never had Doctor Pepper.

Ronan, Monday, 17 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Try it , what's the worst that could happen?

Graham, Monday, 17 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You could spend your entire life on the Internet.

Matt, Monday, 17 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That should be their new advertising campaign - "Drink Dr Pepper and spend your life on the internet!!"

electric sound of jim, Monday, 17 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

be nice to yr bodies

Subject: How much Dr Pepper is it safe to drink in a single 24-hour period?

I don't feel at all well.

-- Graham (dtcd@btinternet.com)

Graham, as a general rule, once you have drunk enough Dr P for an ant (if weighed down with a house brick) to drown in, you've moved into the danger zone.

one year passes...
you ppl are crazy, DP rulz!!!

Paul Slaugh, Sunday, 17 August 2003 01:44 (twenty-two years ago)

And again, I love google.

Matt (Matt), Sunday, 17 August 2003 01:52 (twenty-two years ago)

DP and DMB RULEZ u r all faggotz!

Kingfish (Kingfish), Sunday, 17 August 2003 06:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd have thought people googling for DP were looking for something rather different...

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 17 August 2003 11:38 (twenty-two years ago)

haha I drank 32 oz. of Dr. Pepper one day and nearly got myself killed when I passed out behind the wheel on the highway around Baltimore. I don't fuck around with caffeine anymore.

Millar (Millar), Sunday, 17 August 2003 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

no, martin, that's just for people who search for "DP" on kazaa...

Kingfish (Kingfish), Sunday, 17 August 2003 17:35 (twenty-two years ago)

32 ounces? Jeez, Millar, as much as you drink alcohol (or so I have been led to believe), you can't cope with a soda-pop beverage about half the size as the largest ones they offer at SuperAmerica?

Then again this is me talking as a don't smoke/don't drink/don't do drugs/but at least don't listen to straightedge music person so I need to have SOME sort of vice.

Also, mixing Dr. Pepper with root beer at a convenience store fountain = C/D?

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Sunday, 17 August 2003 17:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Classic, but DP + Coke is better. (Mr Pibb + Coke, which is virtually identical, is my beverage of choice at the IU cafeteria.)

Tep (ktepi), Sunday, 17 August 2003 17:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Dr. Pepper contains polyethylene glycol, which you may know as it's more common name: anti-freeze.

hstencil, Sunday, 17 August 2003 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

mmmmm antifreeze...

Andrew L (Andrew L), Sunday, 17 August 2003 17:48 (twenty-two years ago)

it's green and warms me belly!

Kingfish (Kingfish), Sunday, 17 August 2003 17:49 (twenty-two years ago)

dr pepper is classic: its tough to buy anything that doesn't have something that might be bad for you in some way. you have to have some luck in life.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 17 August 2003 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

um, yeah Julio it's tough to avoid bad things, but ANTI-FREEZE? That's just sick, man.

hstencil, Sunday, 17 August 2003 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I know its bad and sick but it tastes so good. and as long as it doesn't kill (I am still here).

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 17 August 2003 18:02 (twenty-two years ago)

if you drink Dr. Pepper, you're one step away from the bum I saw once on Canal Street drinking from a jug of anti-freeze. Okay, make that two or three steps. But still.

hstencil, Sunday, 17 August 2003 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

That's like saying you're gay if you like anal sex with women.

Tep (ktepi), Sunday, 17 August 2003 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

yeesh. That's your analogy, not mine.

hstencil, Sunday, 17 August 2003 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Well yeah :) But come on. I don't think anyone's under any delusions that any soda's good for you, and I'm sure some are worse than others -- but jumping from that to "you're two or three steps away from the bum"? It's a little overboard.

(I'll admit the anal sex comparison came to mind because of "bum.")

Tep (ktepi), Sunday, 17 August 2003 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

of course it's overboard; it was a joke.

hstencil, Sunday, 17 August 2003 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh.

... well, I'm gonna go find some caffeine, then :)

Tep (ktepi), Sunday, 17 August 2003 18:09 (twenty-two years ago)

As I raise you to my lips
It's not the kiss that makes me feel
The bite of antifreeze, antifreeze

Texas Sam (thatgirl), Sunday, 17 August 2003 18:11 (twenty-two years ago)

that is poetry to me.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 17 August 2003 18:16 (twenty-two years ago)

A complete breakfast Dr. Peper and chocolate covered Hostess Donuts.

Kelly Gardner, Tuesday, 15 June 2004 16:35 (twenty-one years ago)

my colleagues claim that polyethylene glycol is inert in the body BUT I DON'T BELIEVE THEM.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

chocolate covered Hostess Donuts.

I WANT THESE RIGHT NOW

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Tuesday, 15 June 2004 23:05 (twenty-one years ago)

From http://cosmeticscop.com:

polyethylene glycol. Also listed as PEG on ingredient labels, polyethylene glycol is an ingredient that self-proclaimed "natural" Web sites have attempted to make notorious and evil. They gain a great deal of attention by attributing horror stories to PEG, associating it with antifreeze (however, antifreeze is ethylene glycol, not polyethylene glycol), and there is no research indicating that PEG compounds pose any problem for skin. Quite the contrary: PEGs have no known skin toxicity and can be used on skin with great results (Sources: Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews, June 2002, pages 587–606; and Cancer Research, June 2002, pages 3138–3143). The only negative research for this ingredient indicates that large quantities given orally to rats can cause tumors, but that is unrelated to topical application.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to get a Diet Coke.

j.lu (j.lu), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 23:12 (twenty-one years ago)

if you drink Dr. Pepper, you're one step away from the bum I saw once on Canal Street drinking from a jug of anti-freeze

i knew a kid in high school who offered to give this other guy $100 to eat a tablespoon of anti-freeze. i don't think he took more than a lick (and threw up and passed out), but i always presumed he'd end up in the hospital at the very least if he actually had. is it actually possible to consume anti-freeze?

dr pepper is utterly rank!!

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 22:44 (twenty-one years ago)

as I was far away from the bum drinking from the jug, and I didn't want to smell him, I can't actually confirm that it was anti-freeze, but it was an anti-freeze jug, and the liquid looked blue, so...

also key sentence in your post, j.lu:

The only negative research for this ingredient indicates that large quantities given orally to rats can cause tumors, but that is unrelated to topical application.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 17 June 2004 03:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Dr Pepper was invented in Waco, TX. I don't know whether David Koresh ever drank it tho.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 17 June 2004 07:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I've just bought eight litres of Dr Pepper for £4! What can I do with it, other than pour it into a glass and drink it?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 11 July 2005 20:22 (twenty years ago)

make a cake!!!! http://www.texascooking.com/recipes/drpepperchoccake.htm

Vicky (Vicky), Monday, 11 July 2005 20:27 (twenty years ago)

See if your car will run on it!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 11 July 2005 20:29 (twenty years ago)

I'm liking the cake idea! Although considering a cup is somewhat less than 8 litres, that leaves me with a lot of sparkling fruit flavour soft drink to go through.

If only I had a car, perhaps I would try and power it. Maybe I'll leave a glass at my local petrol station to see if anyone picks up on it.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 11 July 2005 20:31 (twenty years ago)

they have dr. pepper in england? that makes me really happy for some reason.

president carter loves repetition (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 11 July 2005 20:31 (twenty years ago)

I hear in England that it's cheaper (virtually free), but you have to wait weeks to get one.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 11 July 2005 20:33 (twenty years ago)

Make popsicles: pour DP into an ice cube tray. Cover tray tightly with clingfilm. Puncture clingfilm with toothpicks so that you have one sticking out of each cubey bit. Freeze, remove clingfilm, remove small popsicles!

and OMG I am so baking that cake next time I get some US DP. UK DP is different--prunier, less subtle.

sgs (sgs), Monday, 11 July 2005 20:34 (twenty years ago)

president carter loves repetition (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 11 July 2005 20:39 (twenty years ago)

doing a ham is a VERY good idea. Not sure if that cake recipe I linked too had frosting as well, some of them do, and you put dr peppers in that too.

We brought back some Dublin Dr Peppers, still made with pure cane sugar, it's nummy. They also make it in syrup form, so it's easy to travel. They've got an online store too, http://www.drpep.com/

Vicky (Vicky), Monday, 11 July 2005 20:40 (twenty years ago)

Sorry, but I still taste heavy prunishness in the UK version, whether or not it's actually made with the stuff. US version is virtually prune-free as far as I can tell.

I'm afraid to click on that link, Vicky! Afraid of what I could get...

But enough to support a popular soda that's served at every vending machine, restaurant, and fountain soda dispenser (Dr. Pepper's a switch-hitter,you know?).

(xpost) But is there a difference between the taste of the real sugar version compared to the HFCS version? I'm asking because the UK version tastes like cough medicine and isn't that popular, and hearing all these US ILXors repping for DP, I wondered if theirs was better?
