I pick Alex Cox.

For Repo man, For inspiring John's "Album" concept before pissing him off with "Sid and Nancy".

Has Julian Temple made a film that was an unqualified success? (not necessarily a big box office one).

I liked "Earth girls are easy" but I wouldn't call it a "total success..."

Both Cox and Temple do have an excellent habit of including Ed Tudor Pole in their films whenever possible though, which should be encouraged.

I'm trying to think if I've ever seen a Temple film. Was the Great Rock'N'Roll Swindle one?

Other than that, Cox, because Sid and Nancy and Repo Man are two of my favourite films ever. Haven't really kept up with what he's done recently, though.

"Sid and Nancy" is quite good. Never seen any of his other films. I quite liked when he used to introduce films on BBC2, before they got that Northern Irish git in to do it and when it ws still possible to see good films on British television (best in the world you know). As for Julien Temple, the Sex Pistols documentary was quite good and so was "Earth Girls Are Easy".

The Great Rock N Roll Swindle is much better than either Sid and Nancy or The Filth & The Fury. Russ Meyer was originally lined up for the Pistols film which eventually became Swindle. I'd have loved to have seen what that would have looked like.

I did kind of mean "that didn't involve the Sex Pistols" when I asked.

Absolute Beginners was quite adventurous, but got killed by overhype to say the least.

Cox is great! Straight to Hell = best unbelievably bad film ever. Everything else he's done is supercool. Whereas Julian Temple is bollocks.

j.temple is one of my major hate figures -- the filth and the fury is nearly bad enough to be a nick broomfield "documentary" -- but actually i like earth girls are easy

repo man is always a pleasure but cox went sorta gaga and clueless when faced w.POPSTARS and their presence wrecks most of his later films -- i wd like to rewatch walker and the i never saw the mexican cop film

I just saw it for the first time in 18 years... It is not, save for one surreal moment in a psychiatric session. Still holds up nicely, probably the best thing he's done that I've seen.
