Why are you happy? (Part 3)

Rather than revive a rather looooooooong thread, I am opting to start a new one. Inspired by all the tales of misery that this winter seems to have brought I want to hear a thousand reasons to be vicariously cheerful by the time I get back from work this evening.

uptoeleven (uptoeleven), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 14:55 (twenty years ago)

'cos the days are getting longer, tomorrow is March and we can start thinking of Summer holidays on the horizon :)
Eye-beef-a anyone???

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 15:09 (twenty years ago)

Well I’ve just had 3 pints for my lunch, my new camera came yesterday, I’m going to Amsterdam for my birthday at the end of march, I’ve got about 30m mins before I leave work and I’m going to Brighton this weekend.

Also it’s payday today.

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 15:11 (twenty years ago)

My birthday's in a couple of days, things are looking very bright on a variety of fronts, I am not currently in the rain. All good things! :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 15:37 (twenty years ago)

-because we've managed to organise a rolling walk to a castle I've wanted to capture visit since I was a very little girl!

-because I'm going to eat tasty Vietnamese food tonight.

Cuair Crithlonracha (kate), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 15:39 (twenty years ago)

But I can get tasty Vietnamese food any time I want so I'm happier! *runs away*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 15:41 (twenty years ago)

Yes, but you can't visit beautiful 14th Century Castles any time you want, so *I* am happier!

Cuair Crithlonracha (kate), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 15:42 (twenty years ago)

(Wait a minute! Why am I arguing with Ned, the living smiley face, about who's happier? Of course I'm going to lose. Sigh.)

Cuair Crithlonracha (kate), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 15:42 (twenty years ago)

Aw.

Anyway, castles and happiness!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 15:54 (twenty years ago)

Pancakes!
Posh meal for £10 tomorrow night due to special newspaper offer!
Spring (though who'd know it?)
Sunny new flat!

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 16:05 (twenty years ago)

> Spring (though who'd know it?)

it's still winter until the vernel equinox (20th).

koogs (koogs), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 16:17 (twenty years ago)

I know that. But March = out of the woods.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 16:22 (twenty years ago)

March woods don't look very springlike!

Cuair Crithlonracha (kate), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 16:26 (twenty years ago)

Well I have daffodils and sun on my garden when I get up and the days are only going to get longer from now until June. That will do me for now :)

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 16:28 (twenty years ago)

Daffodils are definitely a reason to be happy. :-)

Cuair Crithlonracha (kate), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 16:33 (twenty years ago)

Because it's sunny *and* snowing.....

Because you *DON'T* have to work in (crappest town) Luton like I do :(:(:(

George C, Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:24 (twenty years ago)

I'm happy knowing hat things couldn't get much worse. Fucking crap freezing New York no money bad workmates no sleep winter.

(sorry)

paulhw (paulhw), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 22:53 (twenty years ago)

The sun was out, and it snowed on me briefly, and I visited this for the first time today: http://www.pollockstoymuseum.com/museum.html , and then checked out a secondhand shop I'd never been in before and bought an awesome skirt there that I'm going to wear to work tomorrow--makes getting up worth it. (And I am still full from pancakes.)

sgs (sgs), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 23:41 (twenty years ago)

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 23:45 (twenty years ago)

I am excited about how my PhD is going. My salary got screwed up last month, so I'm getting two month's pay next week.

And, best of all, I will have a new brother or sister at the end of the Summer! My Dad (aged 58) == stud.

Mike W (caek), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 23:47 (twenty years ago)

BECAUSE A FELLOW ILM'er JUST OFFERED TO BURN ME THE SPACEMEN 3/SPZ/SPECTRUM DVD!!!

::BOUNCES WITH EXCITEMENT::

I ate myself. I want a pie. (kate), Wednesday, 1 March 2006 16:50 (twenty years ago)

I saw what I hope/assume was the Orient Express this morning! A steam train passing through Barnes station pulling 15 or so brown and gold carriages with "Pullman" written on each in olde-tyme lettering and a different name (I only remember "Perseus") for each carriage. Inside the carriages were people holding menus sitting at posh-looking tables with lamps on them.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 1 March 2006 16:58 (twenty years ago)

(Sorry to disabuse your illusions, but I think it's just a posh trainspotter thing - I see them all the time going through Streatham station at brunchtime.)

I ate myself. I want a pie. (kate), Wednesday, 1 March 2006 16:59 (twenty years ago)

((I do like that the carriages all have names, though.))

I ate myself. I want a pie. (kate), Wednesday, 1 March 2006 17:00 (twenty years ago)

No need to apologise - I did try and find out if it was the OE and couldn't find any evidence that it was, so I've got used to the idea :)

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 1 March 2006 17:04 (twenty years ago)

I'm quite chipper at the mo. It's been an enjoyable winter. I have quite a few ideas for things to do. Quite a few social events (for me) as well. Music to hear. Books and comics to read. Oh, and the Godzilla DVD to watch. Yeah.

Does anyone know where I can get Maywa Denki CD's from cheaply (Amazon is around 30 quid!!)? He seems pretty cool, and he shares my birthday!

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 1 March 2006 17:50 (twenty years ago)

Two core reasons: one, changing my job, which I now see was long overdue and life is all the better for it. But by far the more important reason is - well, someone has come along and turned my world around, turned my life around, and as the old Jim Steinman tune puts it, it's all coming back to me now; the life I used to have, except it's new, and different, and brilliant.

As for Maywa Denki, give Sterns Record Shop a try, round the corner from Warren Street tube.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 2 March 2006 09:34 (twenty years ago)

Good to hear, Marcello :)

> I saw what I hope/assume was the Orient Express this morning! A steam train passing through Barnes station pulling 15 or so brown and gold carriages with "Pullman" written on each

it used to pass by our offices in Brentford from time to time.

ha, each car has it's own page:

Perseus
First class parlour car, 26 seats, ash panels and old prints. Construction commenced in 1938 by the Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Co but completion was deferred until 1951 due to the war. Perseus was used in the special Festival of Britain rake in 1951, reserved for use by Royalty and visiting Heads of State and used in Winston Churchill’s funeral train in 1965. She made her last journey of Golden Arrow in 1972 and was acquired by VSOE from North Yorkshire Moors Railway in 1977.

koogs (koogs), Thursday, 2 March 2006 11:03 (twenty years ago)

I don't really know why I'm so happy, and I'm all the happier for it.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Thursday, 2 March 2006 11:17 (twenty years ago)

because i have heard 'the rat' by the walkmen and because it is sunny and because tonight i am making curry and because i have something in my head to puzzle over.

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 2 March 2006 11:21 (twenty years ago)

The Rat is a fine song.

Insert BIG GRIN on face. I'm so happy for you, Marcello! :-))))))

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Thursday, 2 March 2006 11:26 (twenty years ago)

I'm happy because I'm going to turn from "mum-to-be" to "mum" in 102 days times (or thereabouts.) Also, my baby had hiccups the other day, which made my whole belly move. Kinda freaky at first, but oh so wonderful. :-)

Panther Pink (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 2 March 2006 11:48 (twenty years ago)

Things are pretty good at work and at home
The neighbours dogs have quietened down a lot in the late nights/early mornings recently
Had a good time DJing in Manchester last weekend
I have a World Cup conditional ticket apparently waiting for me in Berlin
Going to France in a few weeks
Proper Spring is round the corner (although this DOES mean chronic hayfever, but it's worth it)
THE PROJECTS THE PROJECTS

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Thursday, 2 March 2006 11:58 (twenty years ago)

Good news: Had an final interview yesterday morning with a company that recently hired a friend and ex-colleague of mine.

Bad news: I think I possibly fucked it up.

Good news: They make a framework for online betting, and reading up on their website yesterday about how it allows the customers to track individual betting patterns and recognize how and when to offer free credits to draw punters back in did give me a shiver of "this is actually evil".

Bad news: I'd probably still take it I still don't have a job. Er, Britain doesn't have any 'get a job in x months or fuck off' stuff like the states, does it?

Good news: lots of agencies picked today to ring me Re: new and exciting opportunities (including one seconds before the interview, and one 5 mins later, after the interviewer had gone to get me a glass of water).

Bad news: The agencies that were new to me completely failed to actually mail me the job specs, and I didn't write down their names, so I have zero ways of actually contacting them.

Good news: Much better interview with a much better company this morning, think I might be in there.
