Aww....poor kitties.

All they want to do is love. And eat cat food.

I gotta admit. I've been thinking about this a little bit each day when I refill the birdfeeders out in my yard that are encrusted with poop. When I stop posting, you'll

nineteen years pass...

Sooo - multiple indoor cats in Oregon and Washington have died after consuming commercial raw chicken/turkey/duck cat food from Wild Coast Raw. Our 9 got very lucky - we've fed this food for years. I knew the company was testing every batch but I didn't know any details on their protocol. The test results on the batch that was infected wasn't negative - instead, it was "inconclusive". A later more accurate test done by the WSDA was positive.

The feline mortality rate is 60%. It doesn't present with respiratory symptoms, just fever, shivers, swollen eyelids, loss of appetite, progressing to inability to walk and other neurological symptoms.

Don't feed raw food, cook it to 165 F. Don't let cats near wild birds, especially waterfowl.

Yeesh to that but glad yours got lucky.

Same - so devastating for the owners of those that caught HPAI. I should add: freeze drying does not kill the virus, only cooking. So don't feed freeze dried raw food that's poultry based either.
