I've pretty much quit buying music/books from Amazon after seeing some great shops close down. Last thing I bought was probably my external hard drive - I don't particularly care whether physical electronics shops stay in existence or not.

Evan, Thursday, 8 July 2010 14:36 (fourteen years ago)

A bunch of crap I really shouldn't have bought, mostly from marketplace sellers:
Oulipo: A Primer of Potential Literature
Acme Novelty Library #18
Colin Newman- Provisionally Entitled The Singing Fish
Michael Nyman- A Zed & Two Noughts, Drowning By Numbers soundtracks
Thomas Leer- The Scale of Ten
The The- Soul Mining

I love the marketplace listings from independent shops; you can find things brand new for stupid cheap if you dig around a little. None of those CDs cost more than $6.50.

Three Stewart Lee DVDs. I went to a filming of the new series of Comedy Vehicle last week and the experience left me with the urge to check out everything he has ever done.

ears are wounds, Tuesday, 18 January 2011 15:32 (fourteen years ago)

Xpost That's actually what I mostly did, largely for rap albums. And since some Marketplace are Prime eligible if they were cheap enough I did that option.

Metal albums on the other hand are all priced like they're a first edition signed copy of Of Mice and Men, even on Marketplace.

five deadly venoms (San Te), Tuesday, 18 January 2011 15:35 (fourteen years ago)

3 of the used cds I've bought from three different vendors have skipped in places, two enough to the point where I had to return them. these places that sell in bulk don't check em like they say they do, cuz they don't give a shit about 2.99 refunds, but it's kind of annoying when you're the buyer and frequently have this happen.

Power adapter for Dell XPS M1710.
Longest 4 days of my life having no laptop :(

Can't fault the seller, ordered it on friday afternoon, arrived monday, but i was out, so had pick it up following morning.
£20 for actual Dell charger from Amazon, comet and other well known high street robbers wanted around £60 for something similar that wasn't even a Dell product!

not_goodwin, Friday, 4 February 2011 00:44 (fourteen years ago)

- Futurama Season 5 DVD (region 1, but I can play R1 NTSCs)
- 2 boox recommended by Kingfish - "why people believe weird things" and "denialism". Both a cracking read.

The only other thing Ive ever ordered from Amazon was S3 of Tim & Eric Awesome Show Great Job.

It is so much cheaper to buy dvds and books online from the US than in shops here - even after shipping - that it is an absolute joke.

Here's something I don't get, so please share with me anything I might be missing--why do some sellers send CDs media mail for Amazon Marketplace?

It's the minimum required by Amazon, but that's because the category includes books, and it is indeed much cheaper to send a book media mail versus 1st class due to the weight.

But the difference between Media and 1st class cost for a cd is negligible--on some cases, first class is cheaper, and in all cases, much faster. Media mail takes a ridiculous amount of time.

I can vouch for goHastings as an Amazon seller that always uses 1st class, and is very fast. It just sometimes makes me antsy about using Marketplace for non-Prime eligible options unless they clearly state how they will send.

lol dude this article is literally an ad for amazon

If you just made it to the end of this article and you’re starting to think twice about cutting Amazon out of your life, we don’t blame you. The company offers so many different types of products and services that extricating yourself entirely won’t be easy.
