Because doing so means you are a terrorist.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 3 March 2006 18:20 (nineteen years ago)

In America, your debt is your identity.

All Is Wub (kate), Friday, 3 March 2006 18:22 (nineteen years ago)

Huh. My wife is about to do this!

Adam Rice Lacucaracha (nordicskilla), Friday, 3 March 2006 18:22 (nineteen years ago)

eeeew

Jimmy Mod: The Prettiest Flower In The Pond (The Famous Jimmy Mod), Friday, 3 March 2006 18:23 (nineteen years ago)

It's your identity

And your dues-paying membership card in the tribe, I guess. It used to be (in WWII movies) knowing who won the Series in 1938.

Aimless (Aimless), Friday, 3 March 2006 18:24 (nineteen years ago)

$6500 on a JCPenney card? What is the interest expense on that? Damn.

Dave will do (dave225.3), Friday, 3 March 2006 18:24 (nineteen years ago)

Phew. Glad I'm safe from ever doing that, then

kingfish da notorious teletabby (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 3 March 2006 18:31 (nineteen years ago)

I've done that before, paid off my credit card with a large check...but not that large. They sure spent a lot at Penney's -- maybe it was appliances?

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Friday, 3 March 2006 18:35 (nineteen years ago)

"appliances"

Dan ("Massager") Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 3 March 2006 18:36 (nineteen years ago)

You would think that being Texans would provide them with some sort of terrorism immunity card.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Friday, 3 March 2006 18:39 (nineteen years ago)

I got upset when I was told that you can't buy a house in cash in America anymore.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Friday, 3 March 2006 18:39 (nineteen years ago)

ned posts so that i do not have to. besides, not being a debt slave to credit card companies is "economic terrorism" i suppose.

and i was getting ready to pay off one huge credit card bill at the end of this month ... oh well, it's guantanamo time for me!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Friday, 3 March 2006 19:01 (nineteen years ago)

Paying off your bills is unAmerican, don't you know? Next you'll be asking the US to pay off its Deficit or something else totally unpatriotic!

All Is Wub (kate), Friday, 3 March 2006 19:02 (nineteen years ago)

I got upset when I was told that you can't buy a house in cash in America anymore

this one's been like this for a while, now, hasn't it? It was to stop all the really shady money/drug/kickback/laundering deals that were going on.

kingfish da notorious teletabby (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 3 March 2006 19:03 (nineteen years ago)

In the UK, too. In fact, even if people want to pay their fees for our services (financial advisors/mortgage brokers) in cash, we're supposed to refer it to fraud detection agencies.

All Is Wub (kate), Friday, 3 March 2006 19:06 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, there's a MASSIVE amount of fraud going on in the U.S. housing market and has been for years. They've been working on several different things to correct this for a long while.

thank god i'm not an underwriter anymore.

kingfish da notorious teletabby (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 3 March 2006 19:09 (nineteen years ago)

Still. Today it's houses, tomorrow it'll be cars.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Friday, 3 March 2006 19:12 (nineteen years ago)

then... gum.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Friday, 3 March 2006 19:14 (nineteen years ago)

No more paper currency. Exactly.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Friday, 3 March 2006 19:15 (nineteen years ago)

The Rise of the Machines.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Friday, 3 March 2006 19:15 (nineteen years ago)

Not the best pinball game

kingfish da notorious teletabby (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 3 March 2006 19:19 (nineteen years ago)

wait me when the replicants show up

kingfish da notorious teletabby (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 3 March 2006 19:19 (nineteen years ago)

and wake me, too

kingfish da notorious teletabby (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 3 March 2006 19:19 (nineteen years ago)

With home mortgage rates rising, it'll be sooner than you think.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Friday, 3 March 2006 19:30 (nineteen years ago)

wake me up before the reps show
'Cause I'm not plannin' on that pinball oh no
Where'd all my folding money go-go?
'Cause I can't use visa in pinball machines.

Abbott (Abbott), Friday, 3 March 2006 19:31 (nineteen years ago)

Enh, then the u.s. property market will crash. oh well.

kingfish da notorious teletabby (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 3 March 2006 19:35 (nineteen years ago)

that's pretty weird, that it's based on a percentage and not an amount. obv. a lot of transactions of $10,000 and over are pretty scrutinized these days.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 3 March 2006 19:44 (nineteen years ago)

Huh. My wife is about to do this!

-- Adam Rice Lacucaracha

yes but you are terrorists so it just proves their point

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 3 March 2006 19:47 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, she married an ALIEN, too. You're so flagging up every alarm bell they have.

All Is Wub (kate), Friday, 3 March 2006 19:48 (nineteen years ago)

I have been to the Genteleman Farmer restaurant in Scituate, RI mentioned in the article. My moms lives like 5 miles away.

elmo, patron saint of nausea (allocryptic), Friday, 3 March 2006 19:50 (nineteen years ago)

got upset when I was told that you can't buy a house in cash in America anymore

I thought for a minute you didn't mean banknotes cash and were actually saying you had to get a mortgage even if you didn't need one.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 3 March 2006 19:54 (nineteen years ago)

two years pass...

Mom emailed me --

XXXX, you got a call today from a Macy Jones from LTD
Financial Services. I googled it, and it's a
collection agency. She left a # for you to call:

1-800-741-2100 ext. 2935

Be careful. May not be legit.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Thursday, 21 August 2008 14:27 (sixteen years ago)

I'm guessing they're trying to collect on a debt for someone with my name by cold calling every old phone record for me?
