And if not, why not? I mean, it's what, $20 to join?

kingfish da notorious teletabby (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 3 March 2006 21:34 (nineteen years ago)

The one year I almost joined I opted to send in dues to the International Workers of the World instead.

Erick Dampier is better than Shaq (miloaukerman), Friday, 3 March 2006 21:43 (nineteen years ago)

If I joined the ACLU, I would have to defend the rights of racists who want to verbally denigrate me. Fuck that.

Dan (Sorry) Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 3 March 2006 21:44 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, yes. Much different than joining the ILX.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Friday, 3 March 2006 21:54 (nineteen years ago)

Yes.

Dan!? It also protects your right to call them assholes.

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 3 March 2006 21:56 (nineteen years ago)

For me, it's like the last 5 years have repeatedly beat me over the head with reasons why to join.

kingfish da notorious teletabby (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 3 March 2006 21:58 (nineteen years ago)

Don't care. I'd rather join a group that allowed me to legally kill them.

Dan (Laying It Out There) Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 3 March 2006 22:04 (nineteen years ago)

But dan, you can't just wait around for that group to knock on your door. You gotta get out there and START somethin' up! surely there's enough seed money to begin an non-profit organization dedicated to drive-bys.

kingfish da notorious teletabby (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 3 March 2006 22:06 (nineteen years ago)

'Cause violence is almost certainly the answer to that problem, Dan.

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 3 March 2006 22:11 (nineteen years ago)

When compared to leaflets...

Dan (You Be The Judge) Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 3 March 2006 22:13 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, when I was an australian resident. I know it makes no sense. They send too many emails.

sunny successor (katharine), Friday, 3 March 2006 22:13 (nineteen years ago)

is there an australian version of the ACLU?

kingfish da notorious teletabby (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 3 March 2006 22:14 (nineteen years ago)

Nah. No civil liberties to protect.

sunny successor (katharine), Friday, 3 March 2006 22:23 (nineteen years ago)

How's that workin' for them?

kingfish da notorious teletabby (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 3 March 2006 22:24 (nineteen years ago)

Somehow it becomes comfortable.

sunny successor (katharine), Friday, 3 March 2006 22:28 (nineteen years ago)

I don't know where I'm going with this.

sunny successor (katharine), Friday, 3 March 2006 22:36 (nineteen years ago)

does it take a fluffy rug and wine?

xpost

But dan, you can't just wait around for that group to knock on your door. You gotta get out there and START somethin' up! surely there's enough seed money to begin an non-profit organization dedicated to drive-bys.

Yes, yes, because that's the only method of killing that would be offered to Dan.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Saturday, 4 March 2006 00:08 (nineteen years ago)

i used to be a member, but i am lame and let my membership expire. i get emails from them every nine months or so, for some reason.

i don't like their stance on "hate laws."

amateurist0, Saturday, 4 March 2006 02:40 (nineteen years ago)

I find Dan's view heartening because it's one I was raised to share (& do share) but my left-leaning peers think it's immature

but I know Dan is way mature so my left-leaning peers can eat a dick

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Saturday, 4 March 2006 03:29 (nineteen years ago)

ten months pass...

Dear New Member,

Thank you for joining the American Civil Liberties Union! With your single contribution of $20.00 you are now a member of the ACLU of Oregon and the national ACLU.

As always, there is a lot going on for us right now and your support could not have come at a more crucial time. You will soon be receiving your ACLU of Oregon membership card so that you can demonstrate your official card-carrying status.

By joining the ACLU of Oregon you have taken an important stand. Your membership dues support the ACLU of Oregon staff and cooperating attorneys who lobby, litigate and educate on civil liberties and civil rights every day. To keep up-to-date on ongoing activities, continue to visit our website at www.aclu-or.org.

Not every cause they champion is agreeable, but they are worth having around.

kingfishy (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 2 February 2007 16:32 (eighteen years ago)

I'm a member. No idea if I have a card anywhere, though, I probably lost it over the summer.

lyra (lyra), Friday, 2 February 2007 21:12 (eighteen years ago)

I'm a member of the Ms. Foundation, and NARAL. that's enough do-goodiness for me.

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Friday, 2 February 2007 21:13 (eighteen years ago)

No, but ever since I subscribed to The Nation (big mistake), they keep sending me shit.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Friday, 2 February 2007 21:16 (eighteen years ago)

Mnay years ago my wife and I were members of the ACLU, contributing either the minumum amount or very near to it. After a while we realized that we received so many solicitation letters asking us for further contributions that the postage, printing and paper more than accounted for the bit of money we contributed, so, rather than continue to massacre trees and burden the postal service for not good reason, we lapsed. I hope this is not the case for you.

Aimless (Aimless), Friday, 2 February 2007 21:42 (eighteen years ago)

Enh, if it's anything like the political lists i'm on, it'll just be emails

kingfishy (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 2 February 2007 21:59 (eighteen years ago)

i became a member specifically for the card, and then when they never sent me a card i stopped paying dues.

max (maxreax), Friday, 2 February 2007 22:16 (eighteen years ago)

ILX makes NAMBLA proud. Congratulations on being part of the problem!
