I can't have been the only fan (when I was eight -- not now, for god's sake). And the casting genius!

Allegedly DVD rereleases are in the works, but there are fanpages with links here and here, for those so inclined. My favorite bit:

Sid Haig is a familiar character actor and has appeared in many sci-fi/fantasy films and television series through the years, including Wonderbug and Electra Woman and Dyna Girl. Buzz Dixon, a former Filmation writer, sent me this great Sid Haig story:

"I was working at Filmation Studios back when JASON was being filmed. The Filmation Studio (at least the live action wing) was located in an industrial park in the San Fernando Valley and looked just like every other factory/warehouse in the area. There was a receptionist in front whose job (among other things) was to turn down the various salemen who came to sell whatever industrial supplies they were pushing.

One persistent salesman wanted to know who the "boss" was. That would be Mr. Nadel, he was told, but Mr. Nadel was not available. The pushy saleman said fine, I'll just wait until he is available.

About that time, Sid Haig came out in full Dragos costumes: Built up boots, red and black leather uniform, flowing cape, etc. He said hi to the receptiuonist, went to the coffee room for a cup of coffee, then returned to the shooting stage in back.

The bug-eyed salesman asked, 'Who was that?'

Without missing a beat, the quick thinking receptionist said, 'That was Mr. Nadel.'

We never saw the salesman again."

Didn't this make Buck Rogers look like sophisticated high brow SF?

I totally remember this show! I think there were action figures made too!

I really miss those seventies science fiction shows, like Battelstar Galactica. It seemed so nice to be in space back then.

Space was a little more relaxed, even with the bad guys.
