There's the guy who I not only work with but also share classes with at school. He is not my friend. This moron is telling everone (I've heard this 3 times already) this story of he went up to a homeless fellow last week and give him a week-old peice of chicken. The jerk and his friends make fun of the poor guy for eating said piece of chicken.

Quote: "Most fun than I've had in weeks."

Now, I really want to box this idiot's ears in but the thing is everyone goes about like this story is the bee's knee. I called the guy on this once already. It makes me sad that there are people in the world out there like this!

Has anyone been around a similar and if so, what did you do in the situation?

if at all possible i think you should beat the shit out of the guy

Mm, I expect a hornet's nest of controversy on this one!

piss in his Dr. Pepper. Just a little bit though, not so much that it overwhelms and becomes undrinkable. Then laugh and tell everybody.

You should find the hobo and ask him if you can sketch him in the nude.

He should next try messing with alcoholics, people with downs syndrome, and small children. I've heard all of those are easy targets, too.

but you know what I meant

Lurker McLurkerstein, Friday, 10 March 2006 20:49 (twenty years ago)

he should definitely fuck with alcoholics -- they're more likely to kick his ass for fucking with them than small kids or people w/ down's syndrome would be.

I am waiting for an opportunity to professionally stick it to someone I witnessed being rude to a homeless person, a long-gone former editor of the magazine I work for. Homeless guy begging for change asks this guy for some, guy gets change out but before handing it over I swear he said "call me Sir."

Schmuck, eh?

suzy (suzy), Friday, 10 March 2006 21:14 (twenty years ago)

A homeless guy told me to go back to my country when I didn't give him change yesterday.

Whatever became of those assholes who made the "Bumfights" videos, where they paid homeless people in cans of beer to tattoo their logo on their faces and fight each other?

Well, this for a start:

everyone goes about like this story is the bee's knee.

Eats like Elvis, shits like De Niro (Tom D.), Thursday, 16 February 2017 23:33 (nine years ago)

I feel like this would be less likely to happen now. Not because people are nicer, but because sadism toward the downtrodden is more taboo. Obviously there's a flip side to this -- we are living through a massive "anti-pc" backlash

Treeship, Thursday, 16 February 2017 23:45 (nine years ago)

being cruel to the homeless is so evil. i have to imagine that when it's done it is bc of discomfort around the homeless (i can relate to unease or feelings of shame when interacting with someone homeless) and an inability to just deal w/ those complex feelings and instead just becoming a total fucking degenerate.

Mordy, Thursday, 16 February 2017 23:47 (nine years ago)

tbh i don't think it would be at all less likely to happen now

(The Other) J.D. (J.D.), Thursday, 16 February 2017 23:49 (nine years ago)

I have my doubts this even happened tbh.

Far be it from me to impugn the good name of, er, Lurker McLurkenstein but...

Not that it doesn't happen, after all there are still Tories in the world...

When I was in high school, I knew people who might well have done this. The age of the OP and his cohorts is not given, and could easily be in that age range, since high school students do have jobs, sometimes at fast food chicken places, and also attend classes, and can be notoriously cruel, especially when ganged up together.

that scene in american psycho where he attacks the homeless man is one of the most haunting things I ever read :/

pretty frequently in vancouver people beat up or assault homeless people. sucker punch them in the street when they're out drinking. one guy offered to pay a homeless dude to let him kick him in the crotch, he agreed, got kicked in the crotch and the guy welched on the deal.

in nearby abbotsford the city did the following to an illegal homeless camp on public land: slashed and bear-sprayed tents, spread chicken manure

in glasgow homeless people sleep on the underside of a bridge 30 metres above the river clyde, despite the fact that they may fall to their death if they roll over in their sleep to avoid being randomly attacked if they slept on the streets http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/revealed-the-homeless-scots-sleeping-in-a-railway-1085845

xpost. Life expectancy of a homeless person in Vancouver is around 45 years old. The general life expectancy is 82 years old. It's basically a death sentence.

I once interviewed a homeless kid (as in, late teens/early 20s) for a local free alt-monthly I used to write for. Bought him lunch and gave him some cash for the interview, and generally made a point of talking to him and occasionally buying him a coffee for a year or so afterwards whenever I saw him around. When the article published (complete with his picture), he was clearly enjoying his bit of celebrity, and was actually autographing copies of the paper for people!

Anyway, some time in there, I was out barhopping with some people one night when he asked one person in our group for some spare change, to which she screamed "Get a job!" and walked off. I ended up going home, pissed off, soon afterwards that night, but I always felt bad for not directly telling her off or at least letting anyone else in the group (minus my boyfriend, at the time) why I didn't feel like hanging out with them anymore that night.

So, yeah, fuck people who do this.
