HOW STRANGE IS THIS? A popular musician just bought one of her used cds FROM ME through Amazon.com ...

The order information for the packing slip gave me her home address, the email address of the contact info for her official website and she created a new account just to buy a used cd which she sells for twice as much on her website. And the account she created is her full name.

I am not naming names for various reasons but...

For example, this person is not Britney Spears, but if it was the info I got would read like this:

Buyer: Britney Spears
email: info@britneyspears.com
shipping address: [Britney Spears, 123 Whatever St, Whatever, WH]

WTF?

It is a little creepy since the artist is kind of a scary intense sort of person who's bulletin board I had posted on several years ago asking why she focuses on such horrific themes in her music. I wasn't slagging her, but everyone on the board took it that way and so I immediately bowed out and never posted again. Now, years later, I put up a cd randomly and the artist herself creates a brand new account and buys it from me when it is clearly in stock and sold through her official website.

M*****a M******t?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 11 March 2006 16:01 (twenty years ago)

NO!! God no. That would be kind of scary, though.

But, I think this is scarier. Think of some of the popular truly creepy gothic female singers you know of. There's only a handful of really big names I can think of. It's one of them!

Weirdness, Saturday, 11 March 2006 16:04 (twenty years ago)

I think she is going to put a curse on me!

Weirdness, Saturday, 11 March 2006 16:06 (twenty years ago)

there is no m*****a m******t. she never existed. you are all crazy.

Knute Rockne, All American (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 11 March 2006 16:07 (twenty years ago)

Have you mailed it yet? You could put a note in with the cd. Just saying "wtf?".

D******* G****?
J*****?

Matt #2 (Matt #2), Saturday, 11 March 2006 16:17 (twenty years ago)

D******* G**** was my first thought as well.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 11 March 2006 16:20 (twenty years ago)

To answer the thread question, VERY STRANGE INDEED.

I'm trying to think of circumstances under which this would be OK (like if someone was pretending to be her, or whatever), but, no, it's weird whatever way I'm looking at it.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 11 March 2006 16:23 (twenty years ago)

R****** N******t?

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Saturday, 11 March 2006 16:27 (twenty years ago)

Super Cub (Debito), Saturday, 11 March 2006 16:47 (twenty years ago)

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Saturday, 11 March 2006 16:50 (twenty years ago)

DG -- think long extended art pieces
J -- think this animal.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 11 March 2006 16:53 (twenty years ago)

D******* G**** was the first person I thought of too.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Saturday, 11 March 2006 17:24 (twenty years ago)

It's not K*r*n "Belgian Waffles" F*n*e* is it?

Matt #2 (Matt #2), Saturday, 11 March 2006 17:27 (twenty years ago)

Are you sure it's really her?

DG is the only one I can really think of.

Mitya (mitya), Saturday, 11 March 2006 17:28 (twenty years ago)

i think it's pretty obvious why someone would do this - they don't want people out there advertising that they don't like the music. and while it's marginal, they probably also want to increase their direct sales.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Saturday, 11 March 2006 17:28 (twenty years ago)

they don't want people out there advertising that they don't like the music. and while it's marginal, they probably also want to increase their direct sales.

"Didn't like the music?" There is ALWAYS a used cd of ANYTHING. Also, this seems like quite a backassward plan considering it would be very expensive. Oh yeah, and she didn't buy the other 2 cds I recently sold through Amazon, so she's clearly missing a few here and there if that's the strategy. ;-)

Let me just confirm one of the above is correct. And I just can't imagine any of the above creating a brand new account to buy up all the used cds on Amazon.

Weirdness, Saturday, 11 March 2006 17:38 (twenty years ago)

why not just tell us?

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Saturday, 11 March 2006 18:15 (twenty years ago)

And J i just thought of too. Im slow but i get there!!

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Saturday, 11 March 2006 18:16 (twenty years ago)

If I'm reading the above names correctly, this is perhaps one of the strangest uses of "popular" I've seen in a while.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Saturday, 11 March 2006 18:17 (twenty years ago)

I'm claiming thats what threw me :)

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Saturday, 11 March 2006 18:18 (twenty years ago)

But Dave Gilmour is male and Jamelia has nothing to do with Swans as far as I can tell. C-

StanM (StanM), Saturday, 11 March 2006 18:42 (twenty years ago)

"Ha ha ah, and this, this, this... arsehole, he was selling my CD at reeediculous knockdown prices! Can you imagine?"

"Darling, that's fabulous!"

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Saturday, 11 March 2006 20:00 (twenty years ago)

But why was Britney Spears the first name you came up with when you needed an example? Did our mystery singer remind you of her in some way?

StanM (StanM), Saturday, 11 March 2006 20:14 (twenty years ago)

DIAMANDA GALAS

SAM THE MAN, Saturday, 11 March 2006 22:13 (twenty years ago)

Hang on, I know DG hasn't been on ILX for a while now, but I once took a train ride with him, and I'm sure I'd have noticed if he was a) a goth and b) female. I guess he could have been hiding his singing talents.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 12 March 2006 02:20 (twenty years ago)

I thought you were referring to Jewel there for awhile.

The Equator Lounge (Chris Barrus), Sunday, 12 March 2006 02:52 (twenty years ago)

Britney Spears is hardly what I'd call "goth"!

Mr Jones (Mr Jones), Sunday, 12 March 2006 02:57 (twenty years ago)

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Sunday, 12 March 2006 03:08 (twenty years ago)

You fucker! You're back to slagging me on message boards again.

I am going to return this fucking CD and give you a bad Amazon review.

D******* G****, Sunday, 12 March 2006 03:24 (twenty years ago)

Stop it- stop th einsanity! Please love each other!!!!

Mr Jones (Mr Jones), Sunday, 12 March 2006 05:56 (twenty years ago)

So they wouldn't find this thread when they google their own name. Now someone has to de-index this thread because you typed their whole name...

Yes, I realise that. Why it's considered a matter of great secrecy seems a little baffling, it's not as if anyones acusing them of ***insert crime/deviancy/etc*** they've just bought one of their own cd's.
