Do any non-mentalists seriously believe that Milosevic was murdered?

I don't care about the mentalists, they can go on with their mentalising, but does anyone who is not insane really think that anyone it would be worth the international community's while murdering Milosevic rather than letting his trial run its course?

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 13 March 2006 23:19 (twenty years ago)

No.

Mike W (caek), Monday, 13 March 2006 23:23 (twenty years ago)

I believe our governments are capable of doing much worse if they believe it's expedient. I don't think for one second that's what happened to Milosevic tho.

I'm thinking six, six, six (noodle vague), Monday, 13 March 2006 23:24 (twenty years ago)

I don't believe he was murdered, but then I am renowned for not being able to handle the truth.

A better question, perhaps, is "Does anyone believe that Milosevic took that second set of drugs himself, on purpose, to make sure his health was fragile and undermine the trial's progress?"

(And why couldn't we have done this on the main Slobo thread?)

Mitya (mitya), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 00:29 (twenty years ago)

The other thread is for serious analysis, this is for making fun of mentalists.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 11:37 (twenty years ago)

separated at last!

Konal Doddz (blueski), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 11:38 (twenty years ago)

This has been adequately covered already. Stalin - classic or dud

Now if you're onto cheney-rove's activities, your a "menatlist." Whatever.

After years and millions of dollars, they couldn't prove anything. Then he dies with non-prescribed drugs in his system.

"Oh I believe it." Only a mentalist would believe cheney-rove isn't a part of this, even if working through its lapdog, the EU.

bethune, Tuesday, 14 March 2006 14:57 (twenty years ago)

I thank you. Obviously Cheney & Rove have nothing better to do than murder washed up former dictators.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 15:33 (twenty years ago)

Aren't there one of two people outside the "international community" who would want him dead? Is anyone's position improved by his death? Does it harm the "international community" that he died before being convicted?

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 15:36 (twenty years ago)

Stray ever so slightly from the ILX-group think fold, and you're instantly a "mentalist."

Cheney-rove would be proud.

bethune, Tuesday, 14 March 2006 16:24 (twenty years ago)

WHEN DID ILX BECOME A HOTBED OF PARANOID SCHIZOS?

Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 16:54 (twenty years ago)

when we read Burroughs saying the paranoid know the deal?

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 16:57 (twenty years ago)

Typical, anyone who deviates from the ILX-liberal-Cheney-Rove-Trotskyist-Zinovievite consensus is immediately dismissed as some kind of PARANOID SCHIZO.

REDRUM!

paranoia means having all the facts...

IT WAS ME WHO BLEW UP THE WTC, WITH THREE STICKS OF DYNAMITE AND A COYOTE

AND I SHOT THAT BIRD HUNTING CHENEY FRIEND

SO LET'S JUST STOP BLAMING KARL ROVE FOR THESE THINGS ALREADY.

Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 17:06 (twenty years ago)

You might want to deindex this thread.

omg Ally they've gotten to you too!

trust no one

(the sharks are in the jacuzzi)

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 17:07 (twenty years ago)

Mr Ally will be coming home with an arrest warrant.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 17:08 (twenty years ago)

Not even. His boss will just invite Ally & Mr Ally to a dinner out with the spouses, or something, and arrangements will be very quietly made....

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 17:12 (twenty years ago)

i thought that the catman of greenock killed milosevic, not ally?!?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 17:16 (twenty years ago)

...to pay us hundreds of millions of dollars to keep quiet while I develop for the government a new Terrorist Early Notification And Response Coordination System which will enable the Secret Service, TSA, FBI, CIA, NSA, ATF, Customs, NCIS, CID, OSI, and Coast Guard to coordinate their pre-emptive strikes against threats to our national security more quickly, securely and effectively. I have a name for it already, it's called "PGP FOR GMAILCHAT."

TOMBOT, Tuesday, 14 March 2006 17:18 (twenty years ago)

Also I will still be collecting my paychecks for going on the internet to call out people who know too much as fucking imbeciles, destroying their credibility in the eyes of the hoi polloi.

TOMBOT, Tuesday, 14 March 2006 17:20 (twenty years ago)

I like your version much more than the one I was envisioning, Tom. Although I was assuming you would foil any ah, "supression" attempts and you & Ally would go on the lam a la "Mr and Mrs Smith".

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 17:22 (twenty years ago)

I look at it this way.

First, I have nothing to go on except news reports, which means I have no first hand knowledge at all.

Next, it isn't entirely inconceivable that Milosevic was murdered, so I can't rule it out instantly as I could, for example, a report in the World Weekly News that Hitler had a three-headed baby each of whose heads resembles one of the Three Stooges, and he is living in the Congo. Political murders happen. Three-headed babies do not.

Consequently, any conclusion I draw fits into the category of a belief, not a fact. All I can do is evaluate the probabilities, by whatever yardstick I can devise. Understanding this, I am willing to consider the possibility of murder...

...There. I have finished considering it. It is not believable.

One week ago the conspiracists would have you believe that Milosevic could not possibly receive a fair trial, that his captors and judges had fixed the verdict before they ever started, that Milosevic was totally in their power and the outcome was inevitable.

Now they would have you believe that Milosevic was a dire threat to them, that they were so afraid of letting him live one day longer that they risked murdering him. These two beliefs are so highly incompatible with one another that they have all the earmarks of willful self-delusion.

By contrast, the 'official story' at least makes some sort of sense in terms of motives, actions and outcomes. I have no choice but to believe it in preference to the other. (Not that I know the first thing about what really happened.)

Aimless (Aimless), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 17:31 (twenty years ago)

Just do the sniff test---why would President Milosevic mix up his own medicine intentionally? Right. He wouldn't. So---some one else involved. Who stands to benefit? The EU, aka, the european wing of cheney-rove.

Open and shut.

bethune, Tuesday, 14 March 2006 21:41 (twenty years ago)

When did someone redefine "open and shut" to mean "handwavey and pandering to my own inconsistent logic"?

Dan (2004?) Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 21:58 (twenty years ago)

this guy is great.

meanwhile, aimless otm. plus the cheney-rove version of events has the benefit of being fucking hilarious!! tinpot genocidaire poisons self to exit the hague for the waiting arms of moscow, just poisons self, period.

c'mon, as the shitty jokes of history go, that's gold.

geoff (gcannon), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 22:30 (twenty years ago)

seems at least possible. esp. as the list of enemies--not to mention could-be-fingered former buddies--probably goes on for miles.

i mean, c'mon, you all know slobo & the serbs were just another brit-backed frankenstein that spun out of control, don't you? just like lenin, hitler, hirohito ...

*ducks*

literalisp (literalisp), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 00:22 (twenty years ago)

A better question, perhaps, is "Does anyone believe that Milosevic took that second set of drugs himself, on purpose, to make sure his health was fragile and undermine the trial's progress?"

Third possibility, that he committed suicide. His lawyer had suggested that the authorities were trying to poison him before his death. He knew that he wasn't going to walk free so by committing suicide he implicates the west in his 'murder', undermines future trials amongst his cronies, gets instant martyr status among Serbian nationalists and possibly helps ferment nationalist unrest in Serbia.

Alternatively he was an old man under a lot of stress and had a heart attack.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 10:08 (twenty years ago)

It's interesting to watch the "intellectual" gyrations you're all going through here to avoid what is so painfully (esp. for President Milosevic) obvious.

What's really going to chap me is when cheney-rove gets a princely book deal in two years. Everyone will admire how brave and candid his distortions are. He'll be laughing all the way to Saudi.

bethune, Wednesday, 15 March 2006 14:36 (twenty years ago)

bethune OTM.
