We're in talks with Head Office over the friday dress code. We want casual dress on a friday but they're arguing 'casual dress = casual attitude'. Fuck sake.

I'm trying to put forward a counter argument stating that casual dress would promote a _________________ attitude.

I'm struggling.

Some of us want to do things straight from work on a friday, or go for lunch or whatever. You know how it is.....

Help please?

Rumpie (lil drummer girl parumpumpumpu), Friday, 17 March 2006 08:50 (twenty years ago)

I'm chewing it over....

your work could advocate a 'business casual' dress code like one of my workplaces (except we have it every day) and then everyone could balance themselves on the fence

gem (trisk), Friday, 17 March 2006 08:56 (twenty years ago)

'creative'.. 'forward thinking'.. anything that doesn't seem too relaxed or lazy sounding..

what kind of job do you do?

I think dressdown days are a bit funny

Alba (Alba), Friday, 17 March 2006 09:15 (twenty years ago)

Helpdesk.

We are pretty much business casual as it is, but cords and trainers (my usual uniform) are verboten.

Actually, if it was my decision to make we'd all be here in out jim-jams and dressing gowns on a friday.

Rumpie (lil drummer girl parumpumpumpu), Friday, 17 March 2006 09:17 (twenty years ago)

Sexy Flanders!

Rumpie (lil drummer girl parumpumpumpu), Friday, 17 March 2006 09:18 (twenty years ago)

lackadaisical?

polyphonic (polyphonic), Friday, 17 March 2006 09:20 (twenty years ago)

I don't think you should be allowed to wear cords and trainers, on fri, if you're not, the rest of the week

RJG (RJG), Friday, 17 March 2006 09:21 (twenty years ago)

But what if I want to go straight from work to the commune?

Rumpie (lil drummer girl parumpumpumpu), Friday, 17 March 2006 09:27 (twenty years ago)

get a job at the commune

RJG (RJG), Friday, 17 March 2006 09:32 (twenty years ago)

They don't need a helpdesk agent at the moment. And I can't weave.

Rumpie (lil drummer girl parumpumpumpu), Friday, 17 March 2006 09:36 (twenty years ago)

RJG (RJG), Friday, 17 March 2006 09:43 (twenty years ago)

Rumpie (lil drummer girl parumpumpumpu), Friday, 17 March 2006 09:59 (twenty years ago)

give up th eidea of casual clothe son friday. It is overrated. Just work less hard if you want to, every day of te week. dress for business, work for casualtime

ken c (ken c), Friday, 17 March 2006 11:06 (twenty years ago)

They've been telling us to 'dress for the job you want, not for the job you have' yet they won't let me wear a red nose, braces, and giant polka dot trousers.

Rumpie (lil drummer girl parumpumpumpu), Friday, 17 March 2006 11:16 (twenty years ago)

I would so work in an office with Costume Fridays.

dress-up sgs, Friday, 17 March 2006 11:17 (twenty years ago)

totally!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 17 March 2006 11:20 (twenty years ago)

"dress for the job you want"

what does a landlord dress like?

ken c (ken c), Friday, 17 March 2006 11:21 (twenty years ago)

"In a recent episode of ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm,’ a wealthy
character, played by Ed Asner, scoffed at paying a lawyer
$300 an hour while dressed in jeans and a jean jacket. The
lawyer attempted to save the deal by explaining the ‘casual
dress concept’ but Ed’s character wanted a blue suit for his
money. He equated casual dress to a laxity in standards."

RJG (RJG), Friday, 17 March 2006 11:22 (twenty years ago)

THis logic seems to imply your work would REALLY be great if you wore a tux to work

Mr Jones (Mr Jones), Friday, 17 March 2006 11:26 (twenty years ago)

ask your butler

electric sound of jim (and why not) (electricsound), Friday, 17 March 2006 11:27 (twenty years ago)

I'm sure if they imposed a Dynasty or a Working Girl theme they'd get more work out of us.

Rumpie (lil drummer girl parumpumpumpu), Friday, 17 March 2006 11:27 (twenty years ago)

it depends on the job really innit. it's most justified if your work is client facing like you have to meet clients like and stuff. just because it's quite important to keep an appearance.

whereas other places 'smart casual' is usually good even though i don't like the term too much, just so that i don't have to suffer too much of other people's bad dress sense, if it's restricted in some way. most people tend to dress smartly anyways though.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 17 March 2006 11:32 (twenty years ago)

I HAVE found you score "points" with clients if you wear a crotchles outfit. Just soemthing to consider. I realize it's playing dirty but its a dirty world

Mr Jones (Mr Jones), Friday, 17 March 2006 11:33 (twenty years ago)

how strictly does your company enforce the dress code anyway? i mean, if 5 of you wore trainers on a friday will they send you home?

this reminds me of this one time, a kid in school wore t-shirts and jeans to school and the teacher was like "why are you not wearing school uniform?" and he said "my house got struck by lightning" and it was the truth!!!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 17 March 2006 11:36 (twenty years ago)

yes, i too would be put off if were a client and i go to a meeting with somebody who wears an outfit that has a crotch.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 17 March 2006 11:37 (twenty years ago)

i mean, unless this is some dial-a-bdsm service?

ken c (ken c), Friday, 17 March 2006 11:38 (twenty years ago)

I'm wearing jeans and t-shit today and I'm monging around ilx.
My colleague has a skirt and blouse on and she's doing the Metro Sudoku.
My boss has a shirt and trousers on and is looking for guitar bits online.
His boss has a suit on and is sitting in his office pretending to read a report but is probably recalculating his pension for the millionth time.
The director got changed out of his suit half an hour ago to beat the rush to the gym.

Work just doesn't get done on a Friday, the choice of clothing is irrelevant.

Ooh, lunchtime!

Onimo (GerryNemo), Friday, 17 March 2006 12:13 (twenty years ago)

His boss has a suit on and is sitting in his office pretending to read a report but is probably recalculating his pension for the millionth time.

haha but if you say things like that you can really say no one ever does any work ever.. like "he wearing a suit and pretending to give a presentation but is in fact fantacising about the boobs lady"

ken c (ken c), Friday, 17 March 2006 13:05 (twenty years ago)

This guy checks the webcam over the Loch he stays next to about 20 times a day to "see what the windsurfing conditions are like". He's as much of a skiving mong as the rest of us, but gets paid a shitload more.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Friday, 17 March 2006 13:11 (twenty years ago)

I'm trying to put forward a counter argument stating that casual dress would promote a _________________ attitude.

... assert U.S.'s power over the world. Didn't really fail, despite how it may seem. A grab for global power is a reasonable excuse for killing thousands of your own citizens. Even if the countries you are attempting to intimidate don't believe you (which they don't, go to YouTube.com and look at the 9/11 news footage from other countries), at least they see how far you are willing to go. And they know you have lots of nukes!

duhhhhhhh (ken c), Friday, 17 March 2006 13:22 (twenty years ago)

kind of attitude

duhhhhh (ken c), Friday, 17 March 2006 13:22 (twenty years ago)
