Or Glastonbury as it's known. Going this year? Awful memories? What do you think of the chances that it might be the last one this year? I can't see the freeloaders stopping this year, and if Eavis carries through his threat....

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i heart glasto festival BTW. I have never been on crap weather years, ha ha!

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I will be living in London in the summer I think so I may go to my first ever Glastonbury. Awwww.

It would be a shame if it was also my last. although there will always be other concerts and festivals.

Ronan, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I've never been either. Last summer it wasn't really thought of... the year beforehand I had to work. The year before, not enough money and I didn't know anyone going. Awwwww.

Sarah, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

went to glastonbury 93 and 94, back when 17/18. 93 was great. hitched down there, jumped the fence, soon as we landed the other side bumped into everyone else we knew. wow! only money spent - alcohol, drugs, food. cheap! highlights= adorable, verve, orb, spiritualized (think that was there)

94 was ok, but did it with proper ticket, in a car, the whole deal. expensive! bands were all...ok, but none really grabbed - beastie boys, boo radleys, insprial carpets, st etienne. shit, there were more than that, who else played that year?

i would never ever go to glastonbury now. corporate shit, mud and cannabis are 3 things i'm not interested in

gareth, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

wow if you think "glastonbury now = corporate shit" then you should try one of the V festivals. k-blimey.

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Wait till Pete gets here, he is notorious for his tales along the lines of 'I remember Glasto 1943, blackout curtains in the tents and powdered egg burgers'.

I have only been twice but am definitely going this year for more perry frolics.

Emma, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I wouldn't have you down for having anything to do with poor toilet facilities, Emma.

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Went in '92 (bunked school for 2 days, ooh how rebellious), '94 and 2000. Saw loads of bands in '92 including Neds, Senseless Things and other shaggy indie bands. God, that's going to be ten years ago this summer.Bloody Hell!

Jonnie, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh you'd be surprised how dirty I can get.

Emma, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Insert comment here.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Glasto rocks. It really does. It is completely brilliant. There is nothing like it. If it stops forever I will be very sad.

is there a date for it yet? Might put in for leave just in case.

I've been on two good weather years, one bad. The bad year was really bad for us, as we had our tent stolen. fortunately the large amount of truffles we had ingested deadened the pain.

DV, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Jonnie, weren't you there in 95, too? Or was that everyone else? I know we bumped into Jack there.

No way am I goinbg, not now I've experienced the chalet based loveliness of ATP, your own shower, bed, vodka espresso = luxury. Mind you, last time I went to Reading took my espresso maker for I am festival ponce.

chris, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

28-30 June. I cannot believe that big strapping lads such as those around here are too precious to go a-festivalling when a clothes-and- makeup addict like what I am is well up fer it.

Emma, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Didn't go into '95, I'd become very poor by that point due to Uni. (meeeeh). The first time we took a huge big framed tent which was three bags big. That was a pain. Igloo tents are so much more convenient.

Jonnie, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I thought this was about the Kinks! And are you telling me that the ancient home (supposed) of King Arthur is where they make a rock festival? How sacreligious!

Maria, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

big strapping lads such as those around here

???

gareth, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

what about those f*ckers who arrive early in a big group and mark out an area for themselves in twigs and string. then everyone else crowds together, blah, blah.

"So... what's the deal with cardboard?"

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I meant strapping in the sense that they don't need to down a bottle of wine to help them get over breaking a fingernail.

Emma, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

yup, I'm big and strapping, but also I hate hippies, it's never as good as you think it'll be, and I don't like trench foot (I've been to three sunny ones, if I go this year it'll definitely rain)

Another thing is, I'll probably be in Thailand when it's on anyway, no hippies there eh?

chris, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ah, Galstonbury 1943. Gerry's on the wing, watching Emerson, Lake & Palmer under blackout curtains.( Etc etc). Five Glasto's a couple wet, a couple sunny and one half & half. I'll certainly be there this year in my usual spot.

Pet Shop Boys last time - well you would. Basement Jaxx etc. But you don't go for the bands - we goes for the PERRY.

Pete, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I would like to make it clear that despite my fondness for Glastonbury I AM NOT A HIPPY.

Emma, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Or as Hipsway would have it - No Hippy Chick.

Pete, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Pete, surely you mean Soho?

Emma is a hippy, Emma is a hippy, Emma is a hippy!

chris, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The people in my office think all my friends are crusties for some reason and whenever anyone calls me at work they all get overexcited and start squeaking 'ooh was that one of your crusty mates with a dog on a string?'. All because I told them one of my old boyfriends was a gardener and because some of my mates are vegetarians.

Where am I going wrong? Why am I so misunderstood?

Emma, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

For all that Glasto isn't about the bands etc etc I had to shudder at Michael Eavis proud boast in the Guardian this morning that he'd booked Rod Steward and ROGER WATERS for this year's.

Tom, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Surely you mean Rod Stewart - Tom (vainly trying to regain some cred after brizaree Hiposway Soho mix-up).

The beauty of Glasto is that awful people might be there, but you never have to see them!!!

Pete, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

ha ha! Queen of the Hippies, here's your crown of Joss sticks your majesty!!

chris, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have been drinking herbal tea too. Is there any hope for me at all?

Emma, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

is that like herbal bread?

Pet Shop Boys were grate whenever that was. 2000?

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yes, 2000. Those two fat sailors they had stole the show.

Jonnie, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

For all that Glasto isn't about the bands etc etc I had to shudder at Michael Eavis proud boast in the Guardian this morning that he'd booked Rod Steward and ROGER WATERS for this year's.

there's always loads of mainstream shite at the festival.

my top tip is to never go near the main stage at all.

anyway, everyone knows the real action is at the stone circle just before sunrise.

DV, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hippies, the lot of you. Mind you Spiritualized in 93 were excellent.

chris, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

But you don't go for the bands - we goes for the PERRY.

I like the idea of Dan on stage rousing the muddy masses with a capella Smiths covers and rave shout explosions.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I guess I will headline one day. But this year is probably too early.

jel, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

...for they have made our british empire a better place for me and you! (the song is stuck in my head now!)
