No, this one was number one with a garage anthem a couple of weeks ago wasn't he?

chris, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Aside from being the new garage sensation,sweeping the nation I thought I got into his other pastime ok. I'm a bit rusty with regard to him now, apart from the chorus bit of gotta get through this.

He also was a big footie fan so that makes him pretty cool. Yeah, the myth of the man is probably better than the reality of his philosophy. Quite often I find myself at the bookstore with Being & Time in my hand, to take a look inside and then with a sigh putting it back. It's the Ulysses of philosophy innit?

Omar, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

There are plenty of other difficult philosophy texts. And quite a few people actually READ Ulysses.

Josh, Tuesday, 22 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Inevitably, there will be a Tom Stoppard play about a chance meeting between James Joyce and Heidegger. It will end with witty banter regarding the perfect goal.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 23 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

portrayed as a sausage eating German stereotype in a Heiner Muller play.

joelthesoul, Wednesday, 23 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Josh is OTM. Ulysses is easy and rewarding; B&T is nigh unreadable and possibly unrewarding (unrewarding to me cos nigh unreadable; but commentaries and summaries on it are unrewarding too).

the pinefox, Wednesday, 23 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yeah, but there are plenty of other difficult novels. And quite a few people actually READ Being & Time. ;)

I'll certainly grant that they hold the book open for a very long time and turn the pages.

Josh, Wednesday, 23 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

heidegger = tolkien w/o hobbits

mark s, Wednesday, 23 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I can see Heidegger crouched in a corner lisping "My preciousss..."

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 23 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

but that wd be heidegger = a hobbit, which is a namusing thing to say, but not what i think

mark s, Wednesday, 23 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I MAKE THE LAW.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 23 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

heidegger = tolkien w/o hobbits
