All spices are good they are my palette (for my palette), but let us celbrate the hardly used mace

i like cumin and coriander the best. turmeric (or haldi as i believe it's known in Foreign Parts) is also good for healing bruises though it does turn yer skin a lovely shade of yellow. mustard, cumin (jeera) and fenugreek (methi) seeds are also ace for putting in curries, fry them up a bit first to release the flavour, mmmmm. don't get me started.

Black peppercorns, green cardamoms, coriander seeds, cinnammon bark & cloves are all nice in rice (boiled or pulao).

Green cardamoms: split the pod & eat the seeds - very tasty & good for the digestion (& breath!) after a spicy meal. Also taste good in desserts like rasmalai or gulab jaman.

Grated nutmeg nice in scrambled eggs.

I shall stop now - I'm supposed to having a very busy day at work!

When we were in Sri Lanka me and Pete got given a tour of a spice farm which I found deeply fascinating and kept squeaking 'ooh I never knew it grew like that before' in the style of a City Child taken to a farm on a school trip and being shocked to find that burgers come from cows. It smelt heavenly but my favourite was the chocolate tree (obviously not a spice as such but still num num).

Apparently pepper is very good for piles, not sure why the bloke showing us around saw fit to share this, maybe he saw the way Pete kept fidgetting.

Emma, Wednesday, 23 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

(you are supposed to eat the pepper not rub it on just in case anyone who is afflicted decides to try this)

Emma, Wednesday, 23 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

use to like mel c but she gone off a bit ant she?

XStatic Peace, Wednesday, 23 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Emma, that was much better advice before you clarified. By "better", I mean "funnier".

cilantro! cilantro! cilantro!!! and anything else they put in indian food in restaurants that makes it taste so much like heaven, especially the things i obviously can't find that make my homemade indian food seem so bland by comparison.

I like marjoram

electric sound of jim, Wednesday, 23 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i really like turmeric, because with it i make thai yellow rice. howvever turmeric is also a pain in the ass because i wear a lot of white clothes and always manage to spill it on myself. \

does ANYTHING remove turmeric stains effectively?

cumin is also good. and garam masala. and chilli powder. oh anything currylicious.

marjoram is a herb, not a spice.

di, Wednesday, 23 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

All this talk of thyme confused me

electric sound of jim, Wednesday, 23 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

lady di WEAR AN APRON!! I know I know I scoffed too: i am punXoR no apron-wearer I, but spillage is after all unavoidable so be prepared...

Recent research has shown that turmeric may fightAlzheimer's Disease and cystic fibrosis and radiation burns. Eat more curry.
