this is cold comfort but the punishment doesn't fit the crime. however your response was dignified and mature. mine isn't: fuck the riaa and all music cops. can't believe the FBI wastes our taxes on this. and fwiw i've never file-shared or illegally downloaded.

You have to figure the public apology is going to count for something, no? Especially if you offer to donate any fee you might have got for the article to a charity.

I haven't gotten any fee from the article. I never really raised the issue of pay with them. Will they pay me? I still haven't signed the legal papers for them to publish it or anything.

Grimly Fiendish, thank you, seriously. It does mean something to me. I wouldn't have ever mentioned this whole incident on ILX or anywhere else online if I didn't want others to know. And the whole time I've had cowardly trolls, sometimes anonymous, sometimes not, doubt me the entire way, so comments like yours mean a lot to me. I wonder exactly what it's going to take before they believe me.
