yeah tomatoes but cake is good too

++++, Monday, 3 April 2006 17:26 (twenty years ago)

It's CAKE, definitely.

I mean ... yes, the red fruit are a Good Thing, but they don't compare to the mighty CAKE.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Monday, 3 April 2006 17:26 (twenty years ago)

tomatoes are for grown ass men

++++, Monday, 3 April 2006 17:27 (twenty years ago)

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 3 April 2006 17:29 (twenty years ago)

Homegrown summer tomatoes vs. angel food cake: tomatoes wins.
Flavorless winter tomatoes vs. carrot cake w/cream cheese icing: cake.

pixel farmer (Rock Hardy), Monday, 3 April 2006 17:29 (twenty years ago)

thats true

++++, Monday, 3 April 2006 17:31 (twenty years ago)

++++, Monday, 3 April 2006 17:34 (twenty years ago)

Mmmm, deep fried twinkies.

pixel farmer (Rock Hardy), Monday, 3 April 2006 17:34 (twenty years ago)

Given that there are chip shops in Edinburgh that sell deep-fried Swiss Roll, you CAN!

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Monday, 3 April 2006 17:35 (twenty years ago)

Is this another bizarre Jesus hates Mexicans spam?

No, Clodia is a valued member of the ILX community. Even if she does prefer tomatoes to cake.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Monday, 3 April 2006 17:37 (twenty years ago)

Tomatoes.

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 3 April 2006 17:38 (twenty years ago)

Despite my sweet tooth I'm gonna have to go with tomatoes. I always grow a half a dozen plants or so and spend the summer eating BLTs for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!

quincie, Monday, 3 April 2006 17:40 (twenty years ago)

Tomatoes

But squirrells will probably not destroy your cake plants.

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Monday, 3 April 2006 18:14 (twenty years ago)

fuckin squirrels

mookieproof (mookieproof), Monday, 3 April 2006 18:16 (twenty years ago)

I would totally eat a squirrel if served with tomatoes.

quincie, Monday, 3 April 2006 18:19 (twenty years ago)

Scoiattoli a pomidori nella torta!

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Monday, 3 April 2006 18:21 (twenty years ago)

Doesn't it sound DELICIOUS?

quincie, Monday, 3 April 2006 18:22 (twenty years ago)

There's always tomato soup cake, for a taste sensation! (It's actual good, just a moist spice cake.)

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 3 April 2006 18:40 (twenty years ago)

i could live without cake

i could not live without tomatoes

SO SO OTM

The Equator Lounge (Chris Barrus), Monday, 3 April 2006 19:22 (twenty years ago)

I am intrigued by the concept of Tomato Soup Cake.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Monday, 3 April 2006 21:14 (twenty years ago)

Tomatoes.

Gilbert O'Sullivan (kenan), Monday, 3 April 2006 21:27 (twenty years ago)

I want a tomato stuffed with candles on my birthday instead of a cake. Tomato is the king of produce.

Abbott (Abbott), Monday, 3 April 2006 21:33 (twenty years ago)

tomatoes.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 3 April 2006 22:11 (twenty years ago)

i think the real question is tomatoes vs. pie: WHO WILL WIN?!!?!?!

paging mark s and the bonkers stories about the pie-within-a-pie-pie

geeta (geeta), Monday, 3 April 2006 22:13 (twenty years ago)

i was craving tomatoes all afternoon and finally satisfied my jones with some campbell's tomato soup. hooray for vitamin a!

bald mommy is sure to fail (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 3 April 2006 22:17 (twenty years ago)

Fresh Tomato Pie

pixel farmer (Rock Hardy), Monday, 3 April 2006 22:28 (twenty years ago)

The all-tomato meal:
Tomato soup
Insalata caprese
Fresh tomato pie
Roasted tomatoes stuffed with goat cheese and pine nuts
Pasta w/ marinara sauce
Tomato soup cake
Tomato sorbet

V-8 juice to drink, for some variety

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 3 April 2006 22:31 (twenty years ago)

tomato sauce > cake > tomatoes

o. nate (onate), Monday, 3 April 2006 22:33 (twenty years ago)

fuck. tomatoes vs pie is like picking a favorite sibling. except that i'm an only child.

xp o. nate you are a mentalist

mookieproof (mookieproof), Monday, 3 April 2006 22:34 (twenty years ago)

Let me explain: Plain raw tomatoes on their own don't do much for me. If it was a choice between a raw tomato and a slice of cake, I know which one I'd choose. However, a world without any tomato products of any kind would be a very unhappy place - much worse than a world without cake.

o. nate (onate), Monday, 3 April 2006 22:36 (twenty years ago)

hi geeta!

no-tin tin meat pudding pie pie

(and tomatoes are clearly a species of pie)

mark s (mark s), Monday, 3 April 2006 22:38 (twenty years ago)

mark!!!! hooray!

geeta (geeta), Monday, 3 April 2006 22:42 (twenty years ago)

hmmm. o. nate has confused me with his semantics, but i still think he's a mentalist because plain raw tomatoes are teh best.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Monday, 3 April 2006 22:43 (twenty years ago)

but i am going to bed now to dream of everything that is not a pie (=nothing, mmmm nothing)

mark s (mark s), Monday, 3 April 2006 22:44 (twenty years ago)

pie>tomatoes>cake

horsehoe (horseshoe), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 03:56 (twenty years ago)

I remember being amazed to disocver that for years people thought tomatoes were poisonous.

I forget now who it was who convinced them otherwise by going around eating baskets of tomatoes in public places and not dropping dead.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 09:44 (twenty years ago)

Tomatoes suck

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 09:48 (twenty years ago)

They are in the nightshade family, so that might be why (x-post).

Mädchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:05 (twenty years ago)

"I remember being amazed to disocver that for years people thought tomatoes were poisonous.

I forget now who it was who convinced them otherwise by going around eating baskets of tomatoes in public places and not dropping dead."

Very important: do not try doing this with tomato LEAVES.

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:06 (twenty years ago)

as much as i love cake, i would cope with just biscuits, chocolate, gateaux, trifle etc. - so tomatoes it is

Konal Doddz (blueski), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:43 (twenty years ago)

Very important: do not try doing this with tomato LEAVES.

Or, indeed, potato fruit (closely related)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:44 (twenty years ago)

I believe the tomato-eater was either Thomas Jefferson or George Washington Carver (oh actually I think Carver was the peanut safety enthusiast).

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:46 (twenty years ago)

Yes, Thomas Jefferson was one of the tomato enthusiasts, but I don't think he's who I'm thinking of. It's going to turn out to be in one of those popular history books I'm always reading (though obviously not learning from).

Of course I may have read this in one of those 'novels' the ladies can't get enough of nowadays, so it might be fiction.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:53 (twenty years ago)

Nah, I read the same thing, in one of these "thousands of interesting facts with zero attribution" type of books.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:55 (twenty years ago)

Steve, surely gateaux is cake, it's not a different species of food just cos it's in French! (NO RLY)

Even I have to fall on the side of tomatoes here, mmm.
