Are any of you decent Dublin folks going to see Morrissey in the Olympia at Easter?

Is the concert on Easter Sunday? Will he be wearing the frock? Please make annoying catcalls for me.

Mary (Mary), Monday, 3 April 2006 19:34 (twenty years ago)

I will. I might also take a photo of him with my enormous head!

Lara (Lara), Monday, 3 April 2006 19:38 (twenty years ago)

I expect full reports. U.S.A gets the short shrift this time around. (Though we're still doing better than Canada.)

Mary (Mary), Monday, 3 April 2006 19:43 (twenty years ago)

I don't think so! But....hi Lara!

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 3 April 2006 19:57 (twenty years ago)

B-b-b-ut Morrissey's the one with the enormous head, isn't he?

I'm not decent Dublin folk, but I will be in Dublin for the Morrissey shows! I suggested another FAP for the occasion to the DV, but I got his out-of-orifice reply : (

I had a wonderful time meeting you Dubliner's last year around the same time. I'd love to do it again!

Anyone else going to Killarney? Of course, I'll be there, too. I'm starting the Moz tour in Amsterdam (nearly the same itinerary in the same sequence as I did last year following the Smurfs conferences in Manchester).

dude, that's what happens when you mail my work address.

I have cleverly failed to acquire tix for the Morrissey gig.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:57 (twenty years ago)

I will not be in Dublin next weekend, I will be Trying Glasgow More.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 12:41 (twenty years ago)

DV, that's the address you wrote to me from, so that's where I sent the reply!

As for tickets, although I'm sorted for Saturday night, I lack a ticket for Sunday night.

Does lack of a ticket prevent you from attending a FAP, DV? How difficult is it to get a ticket to a sold-out Moz show in Dublin?

I suppose Killarney is out of the question, the show happening on a schoolnight and all. There are loads of tickets left for that one.

Melinda Mess-injure, Wednesday, 5 April 2006 05:09 (twenty years ago)

you should magically know the correct e-mail address to use!

I reckon you would be able to buy tickets from touts, but I don't know how much they would charge you. I could probably go to a FAP.

I suppose Killarney is out of the question, the show happening on a schoolnight and all. There are loads of tickets left for that one.

I am not untempted by this... Killarney is a fun place and I know people going.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 09:23 (twenty years ago)

oh wait, coursework for spy school coming up.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 10:05 (twenty years ago)

I might be able to get my hands on tickets for the Olympia show - does anyone want to put an order in?

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 10:27 (twenty years ago)

Two please. I offer my mate's first born. Either night.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 10:32 (twenty years ago)

That should be either night please. Excuse manners.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 10:32 (twenty years ago)

I went past the venue today - it looks small! Curious place!

the finefox, Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:44 (twenty years ago)

Ooh, Lara, bless you! I'm still looking for a ticket to the Sunday night show.

All Dublin ILXor's (especially DV) let's FAP then! I'll leave it to the Dubliners to decide which night(s) (I can have both?) and where -- I liked the upstairs room from the last time.

Melinda Mess-injure, Wednesday, 5 April 2006 17:11 (twenty years ago)

DV, I'm sure you'll be able to find a way to do your coursework AND go to Killarney. I'm glad to hear that you think Killarney is fun!

I'm going to stay at the Lake Hotel. There are some amazing deals on laterooms.com. Killarney is one place where I can easily afford a luxurious hotel. The rest of the time I will be couch surfing or staying in yoof hostels.

I think the Gleneagle INEC offers a b&b plus ticket to Mozzer's show combo. I think the price is meh.

Some people are giving away their Killarney tickets because they cannot attend at the last minute. Check out the marketplace board on morrissey-solo.com.

Melinda Mess-injure (Melinda Mess-injure), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 17:13 (twenty years ago)

Gleneagle = 99e pps for ticket + B&B = not bad?

How would we get to Killarney though? It's not a school night btw as the Friday is a bank holiday (Good Friday for Catholics and everyone else in Ireland :-()

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 17:31 (twenty years ago)

Hi, Lara! 99 Euros is a good deal, but it's not as good as staying at a nicer hotel (sharing a room, so the cost is 50 Euros pp) and buying tickets (or getting them for free) separately. I've been reading mixed reviews about the Gleneagle: some think the service and the condition of the rooms are outstanding, and some reviewers hated their experience there.

I should have known that the Catholics get Good Friday off! Yay! Go on, you know you want to go to Killarney!

You could take the Eirann coach to Killarney from Dublin. I think a return trip is 24 Euros; one way is 19 Euros. Or flights are reasonably priced. I'll be flying in from London to Cork, then a coach to Killarney, and so my options are much more limited.

I'm with a friend who is currently unemployed and temping, so we're doing the budget thing. I'm employed, but I'm still trying to do things as cheaply as possible in reasonable middle-aged comfort.

Melinda Mess-injure (Melinda Mess-injure), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 17:42 (twenty years ago)

I would love to see him in Killarney but would have to have someone to travel down with me otherwise, I'd go insane with boredom. DV?

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 17:45 (twenty years ago)

Have far is Killarney from Dublin? My mom will be trying Ireland this summer: she is going on a church-sponsored tour of Irish places of worhsip.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 23:12 (twenty years ago)

I think she might need more than the summer - to cover all places of worship you'd need a solid year :)

Killarney is about 4.5-5 hrs on a bus or you could fly from Farrenfore to Dublin but flights are scarce due to it being a holiday weekend.

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 6 April 2006 18:57 (twenty years ago)

Remember to turn up early - the support act are The Boyfriends, who are completely ace.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 7 April 2006 12:40 (twenty years ago)

I think it's only for 10 days, but she does go to a different mass every morning. She also gets to go to Northern Ireland. (My family is still unaprised of my brief Irish visitation--only my passport may betray me some day.)

Will you be going to the concert, AF? I love this small yet ardent pocket of Hibernian Ilx Moz boosters.

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 8 April 2006 02:31 (twenty years ago)

Unlikely, I'm London based these days.

I don't think it's like an elite Cadre, he's still popular enough to put on gigs in the Point, so that's something.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Saturday, 8 April 2006 10:29 (twenty years ago)

Except I can't read and it's on in the Olympia. That has to sting, his last album was quite good and his new one is by all accounts (IE The Onion) possibly better.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Saturday, 8 April 2006 10:45 (twenty years ago)

Of course, I forgot you were in London these days. I just meant popularity among ILXers, not the general Dublin public, which I'm sure is strong. I think he wants to play smaller dates this tour, so don't fret, AF: I think the man's still got it.

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 8 April 2006 19:41 (twenty years ago)

I wish I knew what 'it' is; then there might be hope of a cure.

Lara (Lara), Sunday, 9 April 2006 16:55 (twenty years ago)

For him or for you/me/us?

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 9 April 2006 18:35 (twenty years ago)

Killarney is about 4.5-5 hrs on a bus or you could fly from Farrenfore to Dublin but flights are scarce due to it being a holiday weekend.

the train is the best way to go to Killarney.

DV (dirtyvicar), Sunday, 9 April 2006 20:08 (twenty years ago)

I would love to see him in Killarney but would have to have someone to travel down with me otherwise, I'd go insane with boredom. DV?

I am not untempted, registering now that Friday is not a work day, but I am too flubbly to commit to this.

DV (dirtyvicar), Sunday, 9 April 2006 20:10 (twenty years ago)

Hey team, are you fapping in Dublin over the weekend?

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 13 April 2006 18:24 (twenty years ago)

Where are you? I'm in Dublin now. Killarney was fantastic! Moz did a little Oirish jig during the prelude to Trouble Wuvs Me. Made many local references. In fine form despite complaining of illness after flying Aer Fungus to Eire from Paris.

Melinda Mess-injure (Melinda Mess-injure), Saturday, 15 April 2006 13:04 (twenty years ago)

Where are you Dubliners?

Concert in Killarney was amazing! Very passionate and Oirish. Mozzer did an Oirish jig during the prelude to Trouble Wuvs Me.

Did no one else go to Killarney?

Melinda Mess-injure (Melinda Mess-injure), Saturday, 15 April 2006 13:06 (twenty years ago)

Hi Melinda, sorry, I R being teh disorganised. After posting the last time, I then didn't get back to ILX until now. What country are you in now?

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 17 April 2006 08:22 (twenty years ago)

Oh well, I'm back in Californicationyay! I know California's a state, but it seems like a separate country from the guvmint duh Shrub nominally heads.

I had a great time in Dublin despite my illness. I caught a nasty cold. It was probably from Aer Fungus.

We'll have to try this fap thing again. I can't go to Morley Park, but you should try to see Mozzer!

Hate to say it, but Killarney was the best gig. Moz was much more animated and in touch with his Orishness there than in Dublin, oddly enough.

The second night was better than the first night in Dublin because the sound was much improved, and this time Mozzer could be arsed to gladhand the people in the front. Too bad I had upper circle seats on the second night! But at least I only paid face value to a fan who couldn't go at the last minute, not a filthy tout.

I was too sick to hang out either night anyway. I tried to go to the afterparty at the Oak to say hello to Martin of Sack (the dj for that night), but it was so crowded that 10 feet past the door, I turned around and got the hell out.

I cannot talk at all now. I lost my voice on Sunday.

Interesting sight, the parades commemorating Easter 1916. There was this French fan who had been queuing since 7:30. He sat on the pavement in front of the Olympia grousing, "I don't understand why all these people are out here just to see their army." Well, Guillaume, they don't understand why you're out here just to see Morrissey either. BTW, the Frenchie hated being the military.
