ClinPsychs, how do you make it in ClinPsychdom?

Any clinical psychologists here? How did you beg, claw, work your way onto the three-year course in the UK? Once I've got my psychology conversion course finished, what kind of crap-pay job would I need to go and do to get some experience so that I can get onto the even longer and harder ClinPsych course?
