Any ilxors going to be around in any of these areas on these dates?

Apr. 10/11 - LA/Santa Barbara
April 12 - San Luis Obispo
April 13/14 (Weather permitting) - camping in Big Sur (weather not permitting, maybe hanging out somewhere nearby, maybe with you?)
April 15 - Santa Cruz
April 16/17 - Wine Country/San Fran

I don't know how much time I'll have because the gf and I already have quite an schedule planned, as you can see, but let me know. Maybe we can grab a taco, or a gnarly wave.

four years pass...
I dunno why this isn't showing up in the regular threads, so I'm replying to it.

God, that time thing is tripping me out. How did that happen?

Anyway -- 10th/11th next Monday and Tuesday = I'm afraid I'll have to bow out! Coming up to LA on the weekdays isn't feasible much for me, alas. Big Sur = very wise (my folks live up in Carmel, as I've muttered elsewhere before).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 03:44 (twenty years ago)

Tis a shame.

Any campsites to recommend in Big Sur? We want a car-camping site that doesn't feel too much like a car-camping site, if you know what I mean.

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 04:38 (twenty years ago)

Hmmm...Adam in SF might know best about those, I think he mentioned doing that before. But some friends of mine also go up there every summer, I'll try and get their thoughts!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 04:48 (twenty years ago)

adam has quit ILX forever!

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 05:19 (twenty years ago)

He did? Jeez, I *am* out of touch.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 05:33 (twenty years ago)

Adam in SF

haha!

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 05:43 (twenty years ago)

It's a natural fusion!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 05:47 (twenty years ago)

Starting to look like rain anyway, so Big Sur may be out.

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 11:41 (twenty years ago)

It may be too late if the weather's not cooperating, but this place

at Big Sur was pretty good for non-car car camping, if I remember right.

xtof (xtof), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:18 (twenty years ago)

I camped at Pfeiffer campground in Sept and hated it. It was the densest (tents per square foot) camground I've ever seen, poison oak everywhere, people talking on their cellphones with fresh latte's from the cafe. And it was $35. I think Big Sur is a real cash cow for the park service, so they pack them in. I was only there for a wedding, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered.

I drove up 120 to Yosemite this weekend and there were loads of poppies in the foothills.

great memories of all the wild flower drives my father would take us on.

Jordan, Thursday, 3 April 2008 21:39 (eighteen years ago)

what's your per diem?

Steve Shasta, Thursday, 3 April 2008 21:44 (eighteen years ago)

i'll get reimbursed for reasonable expenses (ie $20 dinner is probably cool, $50 dinner not so much)

Jordan, Thursday, 3 April 2008 21:46 (eighteen years ago)

Santa Ramen in San Mateo. Order the Kakuni Tonkotsu Ramen, they run out of it every day so go early.

Steve Shasta, Thursday, 3 April 2008 21:48 (eighteen years ago)

awes

Jordan, Thursday, 3 April 2008 21:49 (eighteen years ago)

Town in San Carlos is good, I love their Pork Chop entree, it's around $25 I think.

Steve Shasta, Thursday, 3 April 2008 21:49 (eighteen years ago)

That's the one I was trying to remember.

Michael White, Thursday, 3 April 2008 21:54 (eighteen years ago)

Have you been to Alturas, Susanville, Chico or Merced?

vaqueros, Saturday, 5 April 2008 00:41 (eighteen years ago)

eight months pass...

Elsewhere, caek asked:

I am in Long Beach until Jan 8. I have to be in Pasadena for January 12 and 13. I fly home from San Francisco on January 15. Where should I go the weekend of Jan 9-11? Is San Diego worth the trip? And what should I not miss on the way up to SF on 13/14/15?

and i query similarly. trying to decide between a couple days to a week-long loop from LA around new year's either:

a) down the coast to San Diego, with a trip to Catalina and a little OC time, then brief visits to Anza Borrego, Palomar and maybe Palm Springs if I can avoid the film festival.

b) a 'base camp' trip out to Palm Springs (Indian Canyons, San Jacinto, vibes) and the desert (Mecca Hills, Joshua Tree, maybe Pioneertown) - I'd kinda like to do 66 and Death Valley, but think I'll save that for a later trip. Maybe I can do Amboy/Kelso in a day from 29 Palms (which doesn't sound super-great)?

c) up the coast to Ojai, Santa Barbara, Santa Ynez (maybe Figueroa Mtn), La Purisima, Guadalupe (definitely the dunes), SLO (Edna Valley, maybe Montana de Oro and/or Morro?), maybe as far as Ragged Pt

all things equal, i'm pretty into/most knowledgeable about c, but i was just in SF, and i'd rather do that trip in spring than winter. only parts I've been to before are SD/Borrego/Palomar (~20 years ago; don't remember anything in between except Disneyland) and up the coast to Ventura (15+ years ago).

very very serious (gabbneb), Sunday, 14 December 2008 21:10 (seventeen years ago)

maybe i should just go to santa fe
