I don't know how much time I'll have because the gf and I already have quite an schedule planned, as you can see, but let me know. Maybe we can grab a taco, or a gnarly wave.

Anyway -- 10th/11th next Monday and Tuesday = I'm afraid I'll have to bow out! Coming up to LA on the weekdays isn't feasible much for me, alas. Big Sur = very wise (my folks live up in Carmel, as I've muttered elsewhere before).

Any campsites to recommend in Big Sur? We want a car-camping site that doesn't feel too much like a car-camping site, if you know what I mean.

at Big Sur was pretty good for non-car car camping, if I remember right.

I drove up 120 to Yosemite this weekend and there were loads of poppies in the foothills.

― Steve Shasta, Thursday, 3 April 2008 21:44 (eighteen years ago)
i'll get reimbursed for reasonable expenses (ie $20 dinner is probably cool, $50 dinner not so much)

Santa Ramen in San Mateo. Order the Kakuni Tonkotsu Ramen, they run out of it every day so go early.

Town in San Carlos is good, I love their Pork Chop entree, it's around $25 I think.

Have you been to Alturas, Susanville, Chico or Merced?

Elsewhere, caek asked:
I am in Long Beach until Jan 8. I have to be in Pasadena for January 12 and 13. I fly home from San Francisco on January 15. Where should I go the weekend of Jan 9-11? Is San Diego worth the trip? And what should I not miss on the way up to SF on 13/14/15?
and i query similarly. trying to decide between a couple days to a week-long loop from LA around new year's either:
a) down the coast to San Diego, with a trip to Catalina and a little OC time, then brief visits to Anza Borrego, Palomar and maybe Palm Springs if I can avoid the film festival.
b) a 'base camp' trip out to Palm Springs (Indian Canyons, San Jacinto, vibes) and the desert (Mecca Hills, Joshua Tree, maybe Pioneertown) - I'd kinda like to do 66 and Death Valley, but think I'll save that for a later trip. Maybe I can do Amboy/Kelso in a day from 29 Palms (which doesn't sound super-great)?
c) up the coast to Ojai, Santa Barbara, Santa Ynez (maybe Figueroa Mtn), La Purisima, Guadalupe (definitely the dunes), SLO (Edna Valley, maybe Montana de Oro and/or Morro?), maybe as far as Ragged Pt
all things equal, i'm pretty into/most knowledgeable about c, but i was just in SF, and i'd rather do that trip in spring than winter. only parts I've been to before are SD/Borrego/Palomar (~20 years ago; don't remember anything in between except Disneyland) and up the coast to Ventura (15+ years ago).
