Jon or whoever, please tell me you never took a class from this guy.

Recently I called the wife of a national pollster "ma'am"; she reacted like Dracula at the sign of the cross.

Shouldn't that title be on the current Henry Rollins thread over at ILM?

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 10 April 2006 15:05 (twenty years ago)

wasn't there already a Me Generation...but this is Generation Me? Or should it be Generation I?

Former speechwriter for George Bush writes article in conservative magazine badmouthing today's youth Shocker!

curmudgeon (DC Steve), Monday, 10 April 2006 15:08 (twenty years ago)

No, but I had a friend file a complaint because an economics professor tried to convert her to christianity.

Awesome.

martin m. (mushrush), Monday, 10 April 2006 15:09 (twenty years ago)

Is that within his remit?

"God WANTS you to pass this class."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 10 April 2006 15:12 (twenty years ago)

i actually had the misfortune of taking a class w/this guy. "presidential rhetoric". spent about 1/2 of the semester watching videos about how great reagan was. even more of a douche than that article would lead one to believe. if i remember correctly, he was the go-to haircut for political 'commentary' on one of the local ROC city TV affiliates

but yeah, totally worthless

bangelo (bangelo), Monday, 10 April 2006 15:12 (twenty years ago)

In an English class? What was the putative subject of the course?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 10 April 2006 15:12 (twenty years ago)

crusty long-haired goth reads national review online all day instead of working

+++++, Monday, 10 April 2006 15:13 (twenty years ago)

Like I actually work. I only meditate.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 10 April 2006 15:15 (twenty years ago)

xpost

well, it was allegedly supposed to be a class on presidential rhetoric/speechwriting/etc (no doubt made possible by dude's ex-bushie-speechwriter status, and IIRC he may have had some position w/in the reagan admin as well?), but essentially turned into a self-love/right-wing beatoff party. i guess it may have been crosslisted under poli sci, i dunno

Lead sentence:

The 1960 musical Bye Bye Birdie yelped "Kids! What's the matter with kids today?" Back then not much, as a matter of fact. A lot, evidence suggests, nowadays.

Right there you know that the "evidence" is going to be a hodgepodge of personal experiences, impressions gathered from books and television, with perhaps an added smidgeon of overheard anecdotes and urban legends - necessarily narrow to begin with and narrowed even further by careful selection to fit the author's bias. Why should I waste my time, just to confirm that Curt has shit-for-brains and doesn't even know it?

Aimless (Aimless), Monday, 10 April 2006 15:17 (twenty years ago)

damn kids and their skateboards

"The Olympics once represented the best of America's best man- and maidenhood."

Martin Van Buren (Martin Van Buren), Monday, 10 April 2006 15:52 (twenty years ago)

Why hasn't rampant unfettered capitalism somehow remedied this situation? How long will it take the adult world's laissez faire principles to defeat the deplorable self-centered attitude of today's youth?

Martin Van Buren (Martin Van Buren), Monday, 10 April 2006 15:56 (twenty years ago)

So is this Curt Smith the same guy behind all these baseball books I'm seeing on amazon.com?

Each etched deference, teamwork, and stoic heroism — we, not me.

That sounds sorta like commietalk!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 10 April 2006 19:08 (twenty years ago)

Tom Brokaw deemed the adults of World War II "the greatest generation."

Question that's been on my mind for a while: DOES THAT INCLUDE HITLER???

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 10 April 2006 19:10 (twenty years ago)

you know, i wanted to groan at first, but that's actually pretty funny!
