Cannibal Ox or Bratmobile?

so i'm allocating myself a rare rare night out this weekend and the two obvious choices in LA are bratmobile and cannibal ox.

Go with Can Ox. The KRS bands always tour the West Coast. Seldom do you get good NYC underground in LA.

I second the Ox.

David Raposa, Wednesday, 23 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

normally it would be bratmobile because you know i listen to indie rock and all that and i would be afraid to go listen to something different... nevermind that from what i gather cannibal ox is the rap group of choice for typical pitchfork readers, people around here seem to like them a lot and i know nothing.... tell me what to do i can't think for myself.

other question: weak attempts at diversifying ones tastes with the safest and most obvious choices classic or dud?

paul barclay, Wednesday, 23 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

we have some coherence...

Paul Barclay, Wednesday, 23 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Gotta start somewhere, Paul. Why not start with a groop lots of folks seem to enjoy? Don't let the hipster taint turn you off. DIVERSIFY YOUR INTERESTS. Invest in index funds.

David Raposa, Wednesday, 23 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

next step = tickets.

paul barclay, Wednesday, 23 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

done.

Report back with info on the show, if you please. They played near me (well, about 2 hours away "near me") a couple of months ago, and I wussed out. I'd like to know how foolish my decision turned out to be.

David Raposa, Wednesday, 23 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

oh to have choice...

ducklingmonster, Wednesday, 23 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

re. choice: this is definitely an advantage of living LA. a disadvantage however is the lack of public transit, which is best summed up by the transit authority's own slogan: "IT'S GETTING BETTER ON THE BUS"

paul barclay, Wednesday, 23 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I would have to say. I'm down in OC = no chance to go to shows, as I know nobody immediately interested in them around here.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 23 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i live in pasadena and fortunately it is possible to cycle to hollywood, but being new to the city i am sometimes a bit nervous about the locale of the show (bike friendly?), and as cool as a 1hr bike ride home through unknown neighbourhoods at 2am is on paper it tends to make going to shows a bit more work than it should be. the knitting factory is as sanitized as a venue can be however, as are the adjacent blocks (i only made it to one show last term and it was there). the excellent donut shops open 24hr make it worth it though!

this reminds me: minimum drink requirement to sit on a stool at shows when tix cost > $20 WTF? is it just the knitting factory, or maybe the waitress of the night? i'll sit on the floor thank you very much.

*beats Paul down* Silence!

Hm.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 24 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i'm serious! i only saw it once, when i was home for the holidays and i caught a block of canada's finest pop offerings: sum 41, gob, and sloan. normally i would rather socket fuck myself than listen to all three of these bands in a single dose, but thanks to heavy sprinkling of holiday nostalgia, it just felt...good. a bunch of goofs, all of them. and they know it. of course gob don't really measure up, but they will forever be forgiven thanks to their song/video soda, which i must admit is pure genius.

What do you have that is your favourite colour? If it is an ox, be less specific.
