I think a lot of things are... And it applies to both cartoon and real animals. Is it the mixture of distance and closeness? The distance makes us able to see the absurdity, while the closeness makes us still able to relate it to ourselves. (Insects and other less human-like animals are probably an exception, at least outside cartoons.)
