How do I set up a website?

I'm an unsigned musician who's not very net literate, and although I do have a blog, and have uploaded a few tracks onto an mp3 downloading site, I want to set up an exlusive website that will allow me to offer much more of my music for download etc. Please, could anyone give me some advice on how I might go about this?

I have considered Myspace. I may be wrong, but it seemed to me to take over somewhat, making everyone who uses it appear to be in the same gang (Tom Anderson's gang?).

What's the most likely route this chap would have taken to set up his website, for instance? http://www.simonbookish.com/ He's got roughly what I'm aiming to establish.

I wouldn't rule out paying someone to set up, but I'd only want to pay a one off fee, and then be left in a position to maintain the site myself. Sorry if I'm talking crap!

why don't you write him and ask who did his site? there are plenty of folx out there to design your site and the majority of them will be happy to hand maintence off to you. You'll have to pay for hosting as well (can run as cheap as $10 a mth in the US).
