OK so the Tiger Woods/Spaz discussion reminded me of this, one of Canada's finest movies ('Spaz' was an actual character). I mean, wow - Bill Murray! Harvey Atkin! And introducing Chris Makepeace! The "IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER!" chant, etc.
And I had no idea there were sequels (sans Murray, natch)Meatballs 2 - with John Larroquette and Paul Reubens!Meatballs 3: Summer Job - with Shannon Tweed and Al Waxman!and OMFG... Meatballs 4 - starring Corey Feldman!
Are these so horrible that they are actually funny, or just horrible?

II--
The second in-name-only sequel to the first Meatballs summer camp movie sets us at Camp Sasquash where the owner Giddy tries to keep his camp open after it's threatened with foreclosure after Hershey, the militant owner of Camp Patton located just across the lake, wants to buy the entire lake area to expand Camp Patton. Giddy suggests settling the issue with the traditional end-of-the-summer boxing match over rights to the lake. Meanwhile, a tough, inner city punk, nicknamed Flash, is at Camp Sasquash for community service as a counselor-in-training where he sets his sights on the naive and intellectual Cheryl, while Flash's young charges befriend an alien, whom they name Meathead, also staying at the camp for the summer.
III---
A 14-year-old boy named Rudy (old friend of Tripper: the star of the original "Meatballs") is trying desperatly to lose his virginity. When he spends the night with his friend Wendy (whom secretly loves him and he doesn't realize she's the one for him) and they watch a porno film called "E.A.T. M.E.: The Sextra-Terestrial" starring Roxanne Du Jour (Shannon Tweed). When the movie is turned off, they discover on the news that the famous porn star has died. Meanwhile in Heaven, Roxanne must become an angel by commiting one good deed. Sh'es decides to help young Rudy lose his virginity. It just so happens that Rudy has a crush on the sister of the town bully, Mean Gene.
IV--
Ricky is the hottest water-ski instructor around and he has just be rehired by his former employer/camp to whip up attendance. But the camp is in serious financial trouble and the owner of a rival, more popular, camp wants to buy them out. Therefore they will have to engage in a mean, winner-takes-all competition that will settle the row once and for all.

I caught the 4th one on tv a while ago. It was pretty awful but I kind of give it a pass out of pity for dear old Jack Nance amd the corny plot.
Apparently the film was initially unrelated to the franchise but was tagged with Meatballs 4 at the last minute. Corey Feldman says he wouldn't have done it if he knew that it was just going to be another Meatballs sequel. Like his career was hot shit at the time.

Fans of the (first) film are greatly encouraged to check out The Way Way Back from 2013, which is a bit like Meatballs as told from Wudy the Wabbit's point-of-view, and has Sam Rockwell doing a spot-on early-Bill Murray imitation.

saw this for the first time a couple years ago... voting dud on account of murray's creepy/assaulty vibe in that one scene. one of those awful movie-wrecking scenes that's all out of proportion to whatever problems the rest of it have... like if they had just cut that out it'd be this kind of sweet shaggy little movie of ropey but harmless sketches around this sweet little story of this counselor trying to find the best way to reach this one kid. maybe there were other problems, I don't remember. the vibe of the location and sets was fantastic, exactly the way all camps should be in my head.
