My friend Rafael came in from NYC so we got texmex and watched a horror movie.

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Thursday, 13 April 2006 02:55 (twenty years ago)

I am confused and a little upset, but for once it's for a reason I can actually articulate.

It is a beautiful night though.

martin m. (mushrush), Thursday, 13 April 2006 02:59 (twenty years ago)

It is my friend's baby's second night ever. And he gets to meet me, which will be a great treat.

isadora (isadora), Thursday, 13 April 2006 03:01 (twenty years ago)

I'm finishing off some Havarti and crackers and thinking about Terrastock plans.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 13 April 2006 03:40 (twenty years ago)

I am 2 hours away from a 4 day long weekend, my boyfriend is away so I will have the house to myself. Hence, bath, book, wine & smokes. Bliss.

It's also different because I just found a mysterious, lone PUBE on my desk at work. But that's another thread in itself.

Hard like armour, Thursday, 13 April 2006 03:46 (twenty years ago)

i am mixing, remixing, and seeing a band who was actually the very first local band i saw, 14 years ago. not your standard night.

electric sound of jim (and why not) (electricsound), Thursday, 13 April 2006 03:48 (twenty years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 13 April 2006 03:54 (twenty years ago)

my family actually finished a sedar, admittedly a "30 minutes or less!" one, instead of making a total mockery of their heritage.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 13 April 2006 04:30 (twenty years ago)

my family hasn't hada seder in two or three years, now.

If you don't get your seder in 30 minutes or less, is it free?

timmy tannin (pompous), Thursday, 13 April 2006 05:42 (twenty years ago)

I bought a dime bag of weed, a quantity I have never purchased before, and am now listening with enjoyment to a version of "Ballad of a Thin Man" that I have not heard before. I also learned some interesting facts about my friend K and the guy he dated when he was twenty-one.

A Reader, Thursday, 13 April 2006 05:57 (twenty years ago)

no seder this year, just joints and america's next top model... same difference, really.

scout (scout), Thursday, 13 April 2006 06:08 (twenty years ago)

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Thursday, 13 April 2006 06:57 (twenty years ago)

Also, I'm mildly perplexed to suddenly be liking some Bob Dylan this much, but there were some great performances on that DVD from last year; I'm waxing overly excited about the next Todd Haynes film in 2007; and I'm practicing strict denial and avoidance in the face of depressing work/life circumstances, the weed being an integral part of that strategy.

A Reader, Thursday, 13 April 2006 07:15 (twenty years ago)

I *didn't* eat take-away food

Other than that it was exactly the same as the night before, and the night before that...

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 13 April 2006 07:46 (twenty years ago)

I'm finishing off some Havarti and crackers and thinking about Terrastock plans.

Ooh, Ned, go and see Saint Joan while you're there. They're friends of mine from Nottingham, kind of folky, very ethereal. I think you'd like them.

emil.y (emil.y), Thursday, 13 April 2006 09:57 (twenty years ago)

I get to go to the farmer's market in Hammersmith. Normally I wouldn't as Thursday is climbing night and my bag is full with chalk bag, harness, carabiners etc. However as I'm off to a lighthouse in Dorset for a weekend of hot crag action I get to go and buy lots of lovely meat and vegetables.

I think this is straying in x-post territory...

tokyo nursery school: afternoon session (rosemary), Friday, 14 April 2006 03:42 (twenty years ago)

Another year, and yet again no one invites me to a seder.

Admittedly, not as big a deal as when I lived in NYC and most of my friends were Jewish, but still.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 14 April 2006 03:50 (twenty years ago)

I'm staying up all night doing my fskcing physics and calculus homework (or reading ILX).

31g (31g), Friday, 14 April 2006 05:59 (twenty years ago)

For some reason, tonight the hopelessness of it all is too much for me to sleep.

someone let this mitya out! (mitya), Friday, 14 April 2006 06:08 (twenty years ago)

I agree.

youn, Friday, 14 April 2006 07:46 (twenty years ago)

AaronK (AaronK), Friday, 14 April 2006 12:24 (twenty years ago)

Our seder dinner, consumed at my wife's pretentious aunt's house:

two huge cups of disgustingly sweet wine (mine and then my daughter's)
two massive portions of gefilte fish with way-too-hot Bucky Badger horseradish (so I'm not a vegan all the time, sue me)
matzoball soup (veggie stock though)
a hill of kugel
sweet potatoes
four or five glasses of pretty expensive champagne
chocolate cheesecake

My daughter sang the four questions in Hebrew, my son got nervous reading the Haggadah but did great and hid the Afikomen like a champ, for once my wife's cousin didn't bring the whole family's mood down by being pissy, no one was fighting; not even the Brewers losing to St. Louis on the way home could bum me out.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 14 April 2006 12:43 (twenty years ago)

potato kugel
roasted beets with almonds and olive oil
banana "cake"
mandelbrot
madjoul dates stuffed with rose-flavored almond paste

AaronK (AaronK), Friday, 14 April 2006 13:27 (twenty years ago)

quasi-Sephardic charoset with walnuts, apples, pomegranate syrup, dried apricots, wine
vegetable soup w/ like 15 kinds of vegetables & matzoh balls
beets with preserved lemon and herbs
green salad
Sri Lankan spicy sweet potatoes
eggplant with date sauce
Indian-ish carrot-and-onion salad
chocolate Passover cake

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 14 April 2006 15:12 (twenty years ago)

Last night: played a rock show in beautiful DeKalb, Illinois, and met the elusive but MEGA-HOTT Dominique Leone.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 14 April 2006 15:14 (twenty years ago)

I made it to Boston, but not quite. David Hockney Portraits will have ended at the MFA before my next holiday, but all is not lost because it will be at LACMA this summer.

youn, Friday, 14 April 2006 20:38 (twenty years ago)

this night is awful

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 14 April 2006 20:40 (twenty years ago)

it will be at LACMA this summer

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 14 April 2006 20:55 (twenty years ago)

My left ear is plugged and the wax-cleaning solution i used doesnt appear to do anything and its SO ANNOYING.

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 14 April 2006 20:58 (twenty years ago)

Ha, J, I'm going to assume you and Dom spent the whole night walking around in reverent awe over the Place of Nabisco's Birth!

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 14 April 2006 21:24 (twenty years ago)

Deeej, I've been there & it's hell. Go to the doctor's and have them suck it out.

jay blanchard (jay blanchard), Friday, 14 April 2006 21:27 (twenty years ago)

I'm thinking about it. I don't have health insurance right now but it might be worth it just so I don't go crazy.

deeej, Saturday, 15 April 2006 19:20 (twenty years ago)

last night was awful

ai lien (kold_krush), Saturday, 15 April 2006 19:32 (twenty years ago)

awful.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 15 April 2006 20:56 (twenty years ago)

Why?

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Saturday, 15 April 2006 21:46 (twenty years ago)

bah just stuck in the house, sick and bored.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 15 April 2006 21:49 (twenty years ago)

I've been chronicling my punk rock Grant Morrisonitis Easter weekend adventure over at ILC, so 'nuff said that this night is different from all other nights because of that. But in point of actual fact all I'll be doing tonight is walking over to campus to check out Sympathy for Lady Vengeance on the big screen.

Chris Freiberg (Chris F.), Saturday, 15 April 2006 22:11 (twenty years ago)

You should now read above where I complained about not being invited to a seder to complaining that I wasn't invited to Douglas's seder, which not only looks fabulous but which, if it happened at his home here, took place about eight blocks from my house.

All my Jewish cookbooks for nought!
