Sausages, a question.

Do Sainsburys sell good sausages?

I'd like to make a decent sausage and mash dish tonight and Sainsburys is the only decent place nearby. Well, it's a good twenty minute walk away so I'd rather not go if they have no sausage selection.

My butcher only does right traditional stuff, so he's out.

Yes. Taste the difference pork and apple are great. They do a few other fancy ones. I'd avoid toulouse, personally, but yeah, they're all good enough to carry a sausage and mash. Our local s'burys usually does a two packs for £3.50 offer too.

the toulouse ones don't seem red enough.

yeh their premium range is pretty good. its as good as any others, cant remember what the meat content is.

i dont get this. whats wrong with traiditonal? do you mean "traditionally poor quality" or just that its a pork sausage?

It's just one variety of sausage my butcher does. (Or three if you count Lorne and square steak) I don't know if they are good quality though.

I just fancy a sausage with a little bit of oomph.

My last butcher had many varieties of sausage. He even had a 'sausage of the week' speciality.

Pork and Apple sounds along the right kind of lines.

i cant believe you have had a succession of butchers! i would go there just to support him, unless they look really tasteless/crappy

I've just remembered I've got some of these pork and apple sausages in my freezer! Ace. I'm going to eat S+M tonight too.

Yeah, my old butcher is a bit far from hom now I'm afraid, but his stuff was top.

I even bought my grannie some 'skirting' (premium stewing steak cut from a dodgy area of the coo dontcha know but oh so tender and melt in the mouth) from my old butcher - my grannie was a master butcher herself - and she gave it the thumbs up. This was praise indeed for a woman who travelled ten miles each saturday for her butcher meat.

With due respect to Jim I might go for the Toulouse - i like 'em and they've got a bit of oomph.
Also i think they do one with sweet chilli in (that might be waitrose though) - anyway wherever the hell it came from i remember them being delicious (being an appalling foodie i had 'em with polenta - italian mash!).

I ate a pork & apple one for lunch today! with a bagel - and the cartoon, TOP CAT.

How did TC taste after all these years?

Sainsbury's have excellent sausages in their Spot the Difference range, especially when they are ON OFFER.

Wrong neighborhood, I know, but if you're ever in New England, try the Bell&Evans chicken chorizo sausage, available in any decent supermarket. The ultimate oomph, and heart-healthy to boot! Fabulous with eggs, beans, in spaghetti sauce, whatever. They make a chicken and apple one too that's very good, for people who can't take the heat.
