Goths living in Glasgow are gonna get harmed anyway, may as well get in first.

I like that photo of the craft knife, with the caption "Self-harming is a strategy for coping with serious emotional problems". It reads like a handy tip from the BBC.

In my experience Glasgow goths are more likely to self-medicate than self-harm.

Will the Daily Record now lead a campaign for metal detectors at the art gallery? ;)

"Rather than posing a risk, it's also possible that by belonging to this subculture young people are gaining valuable social and emotional support from their peers."

what a godawful scientific study. they surveyed 1,258 teens and only 25 of the 1,258 self-identified as goths? and they derived their results based on a sample size of 25 teenagers, and this 25 was based on dodgy qualitative data from a written survey (being a "goth" is not a parameter the same way gender or ethnicity is; it's more subjective!) "half of the goths" in this study translates to about 13 kids. 13 out of 1,258 total. and then the article extrapolates on the results of the british medical journal study based on results from 13 kids and makes it sound like it's written in stone?

i really, really hate BBC "science" articles like this. get one statistics textbook.

And 7 out of 13 only said they cut themselves because it sounded cool.
