I was looking at their shit on MYSPACE. I listened to a few of their songs and who not be surprised if someone hired an assassin to blow their heads off.

Someone should blow YOUR head off for looking at a MySpace profile in the first place.

Haha

The Dresden Dolls are clever and wonderful, and you're just so totally wrong about them.

Gilbert O'Sullivan (kenan), Saturday, 15 April 2006 03:15 (nineteen years ago)

they are pretty lame.

The Dresden Dolls: Name Your Reasons Why They Are So Bad and Hated

Simon H. to thread

chrisco (chrisco), Saturday, 15 April 2006 05:07 (nineteen years ago)

I was annoyed personally. It was harsh - not at all like Les Baxter's work

Mr Jones (Mr Jones), Saturday, 15 April 2006 05:22 (nineteen years ago)

Everyone I know who loves them is a goth, if that says anything, haha (PS Ive never heard 'em myself).

I have never known them to either clever or wonderful. Dumb is a more appropriate adjective. Lame is also OTM.

Big Balls No Hair, Saturday, 15 April 2006 09:27 (nineteen years ago)

Delighted to see they're still pissing people off.

Soukesian, Saturday, 15 April 2006 10:18 (nineteen years ago)

I just listened to them. I liked it.

Mingus Realty (noodle vague), Saturday, 15 April 2006 10:20 (nineteen years ago)

They're pretty good. I can understand the hate, though, too. Especially for the song and video "Sing".

Simon H. (Simon H.), Saturday, 15 April 2006 10:27 (nineteen years ago)

love them or hate them I guess?

Mr Jones (Mr Jones), Saturday, 15 April 2006 10:36 (nineteen years ago)

Delighted to see they're still pissing people off.

They piss people off like the Osmonds, Bee Gees and Air Supply did... not because they are the musical and/or trfend geniuses they fashion themselves to be.

On an artistic level, they are two steps below the muppets.

Hier Ground, Saturday, 15 April 2006 10:39 (nineteen years ago)

It's just self-consciously "weird" music, except that the music isn't particularly weird. Only depressed and misunderstood teenagers have an excuse for liking this crap.

I couldn't care less about the Dresden Dolls, but you are so so so wrong about those other three acts.

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Saturday, 15 April 2006 11:41 (nineteen years ago)

. . and, now that you mention it, two steps below the Muppets wouldn't be a bad mark for half the acts raved about on ILM to aspire to.

Soukesian, Saturday, 15 April 2006 12:35 (nineteen years ago)

I like the Dresden Dolls. I think their songs have clever lyrics and I like all that piano. I like whatserface's voice because it's low and husky and sometimes high and squeaky and she makes a lot of funny little noises. They put on a fairly entertaining live show, but the drummer was somewhat irritating, but he was also very well built so I decided it came out generally in his favor. I was surprised at how many goth kids were in attendance, but then I realized I shouldn't have been surprised at all. I'm not goth. I wasn't asleep, just drunk. I think Sing is pretty terrible.

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Saturday, 15 April 2006 12:51 (nineteen years ago)

That new Dresden Dolls album is pretty good and they are fantastic live.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Saturday, 15 April 2006 13:08 (nineteen years ago)

Shouldn't this be on ILM? Honestly, isn't the hate out of proportion for an independent artist who doesn't court it?

Their fans are goths....

Many are. So?

I like them a lot as well.

You're right about the music not being "weird." (I'm thinking about something like Xiu Xiu as weird). It's just really energetic and fun overall. And the live act was worth staying up for (doors at 11:30???) and wading through goth kids to see.

To sum up: Dresden Dolls = good times.

It can be, when you're the willing object of sodomy.

what up g?

I like them just great.

Jeff. (Jeff), Sunday, 16 April 2006 15:28 (nineteen years ago)

this thread is bizarre. Dresden Dolls are cabaret. Their songs are well-crafted. Four Non-Blondes is so off the mark it's not even funny. What a weird thread for this polished little cabaret outfit.

yarn, Sunday, 16 April 2006 15:58 (nineteen years ago)

Wow, no kidding. kyle, if you're gonna hate, hate like you know what you're talking about.

I saw the Dresden Dolls engage in some sort of pseudo-orgy at a house party a few years ago. I'm drunk.

Rogert Ebert is a fat fag.

Gene Siskel, Thursday, 20 April 2006 10:58 (nineteen years ago)

one year passes...

Dresden Dolls = goth Billy Joel.

I tried really hard to hate Yes, Virginia, but I just can't. I love it, and I'm pretty low on the goth scale of gothiness. The songwriting is excellent, although the lyrics aren't quite as clever as Amanda Palmer thinks they are.

libcrypt, Monday, 5 November 2007 21:08 (eighteen years ago)

i liked their newer album better than their first but i still can't help but feel that somewhere out there, there is a band who does their entire shtick 1000x better

who is this band

??
