Why no "New English"?

Like if somebody's from New England, how come they're never called a New English? Is "New Mexican" used, btw?

i just read that bill bryson 'made in america' book. when it dorks out totally on language it's pretty fun but the 'ok so then america got cars and these words came up and then it got planes and we got these words' parts felt hyperperfunctory.
