UK Watercooler Ten: Back In The Office Again

As you were...

I'm in a bad mood and I can't even blame being back at work as I've been in a bad mood for days. Should I have some coffee?

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 08:08 (nineteen years ago)

I know that the lenten thing ended on Sunday, but I've still not had any.

I'm scared of my inbox. :-(

And my mum has been on eBay again because there's some hideous stuffed monster arrived in the post today. How I can stop her SENDING me these things?

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 08:10 (nineteen years ago)

Aw :-(

I have lots of stuff going on at the moment - stuff that's both good and scary at the same time - but I don't exactly want to talk about it here.

Oh, and I just broke the internal phone system completely. Fortunately that was only ten minutes of utter terror, because after a hard reset and a backup it recovered.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 08:13 (nineteen years ago)

Come on, give us a clue, and tell us at least what sphere of life it's in - work, hobbies, friends, sex, etc.

Sigh.

I just wish the depression would break already, I'm just fed up and sick of this and refuse to go back on the happy pills. :-(

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 08:25 (nineteen years ago)

All of those apart from work :-)

Some new friends have invited me out somewhere on Saturday night - I think I told you about that. But, additionally, someone I've been chatting to online has invited me to go and stay with them for a couple of nights, later this week. This is both good and scary. And complicated. Very complicated.

(I get the feeling they fancy me, and want to get their hands on me before I go out Saturday night in case I get snapped up by someone else whilst I'm out)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 08:33 (nineteen years ago)

OK, now I wish I hadn't asked. :-P

My mood gets fowler. My boss came over and dumped the new, improved list of CRAP what needs done on me.

And I'm trying to move rehearsal off tonight as I don't even know what time I will get out, but everyone is going away next weekend. :-(

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 08:43 (nineteen years ago)

OK, now I wish I hadn't asked. :-P

If you don't liek that bit, you *really* shouldn't read the email I've just sent you :-P

TS: Mick Ralphs vs. Ariel Bender (Dada), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 08:46 (nineteen years ago)

Ha ha, now I'm scared.

And leave my mispelling alone¬! :-(

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 08:47 (nineteen years ago)

I thought it might have been deliberate and I might be crossing your teas and dotting your eyes

TS: Mick Ralphs vs. Ariel Bender (Dada), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 08:48 (nineteen years ago)

Or you might have meant Sir John Fowler, builder of the Forth Bridge and the Metropolitan Railway.

(and the famous failure "Fowler's Ghost", his attempt at a fireless engine for the Underground)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 08:52 (nineteen years ago)

God, now I've just seen a picture I wish I hadn't.

:-(

Fuck everyone and everything. Why did I leave my flat?

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 08:56 (nineteen years ago)

:-(

*hug*

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 08:58 (nineteen years ago)

Just because you know that something is irrational doesn't mean you don't feel it, you know?

Sorry, I'm making no sense. I should get back to work so I can get out at a reasonable hour tonight.

I wish I could blame it on the stress and the pressure of being back here, but in a way I'm relieved to be back in the office. Whatever, I'm going to try to stop thinking about stuff that winds me up and depresses me.

I wish I could be happy about the band and stuff that's happening for us, but I feel so excluded from it lately, like I'm just the Fat One That Writes All the Songs and should go away and shut up and stop spoiling everyone else's fun or something.

Anyway, your thing sounds, erm... interesting, FP. It will be great fun for you all round, anwyay.

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 09:08 (nineteen years ago)

Just because you know that something is irrational doesn't mean you don't feel it, you know?

Mmm, I know that feeling far too well.

Anyway, your thing sounds, erm... interesting, FP. It will be great fun for you all round, anwyay.

Well, I hope so.

I should probably get someone to phone me a couple of times whilst I'm away, Just In Case. I'm confident it *will* be safe, but it's still sensible.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 09:10 (nineteen years ago)

God, now I've just seen a picture I wish I hadn't.
You can't say that and not show us the pic ;-)

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 09:14 (nineteen years ago)

No, never mind. It's totally stupid to have been upset by it - it's just a picture of one of my bandmates and my quasi-crush crashed out on the same futon. and even though it's totally irrational and I don't even *really* like him that way, and it's obvious that nothing's going on, it still provokes a reaction because I've had so many bandmates and friends who *have* played sexual games that as soon as they find out I like someone, they go and sleep with them.

and I know that's not what's happenning now, but it's hard to break the patterns of feeling like The Fat One Who Writes All The Songs and who Never Gets The Boy, Ever, because the boys like the pretty, skinny bandmates.

And it just makes me feel worse about being so badly affected by the depression, that evening, because I was invited to go along, but didn't, because I was too badly depressed to be in the company of people so instead I went home and drank myself to sleep.

And god, aren't you all glad that I'm back, little ray of sunshine that I am, with my traumas and my horrors and my stupid self sabotaguing self aggrandising hissy fits and self manufatured drama queen "problems".

God, I wish I had a hammer, I'd smash my skull with it, because at least that would stop the depressionheadache.

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 09:18 (nineteen years ago)

Quick, someone post a picture of a fucking kitten or something.

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 09:19 (nineteen years ago)

Hi all,

I'm feeling soooo tired today, although I'm in a good mood - it was a good productive weekend! And I started my fitness regime yesterday. The 10 minute run was the hardest thing anyone has ever had to do ever in the history of the world ever, but it means that I'm starting to get fit, which is a good thing. Just need to keep it up now.

Kate, don't be sad! I've sent you a little package in the post this morning to cheer you up.

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 09:21 (nineteen years ago)

*I'm* glad that you're back, if noone else is.

Better than a kitten: here's Fowler's Ghost, as mentioned upthread:

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 09:24 (nineteen years ago)

Yay for little packages.

I tried going for a fitness walk yesterday - I had to pause and have a rest to get up the common, I was so out of shape. And then I got distracted by the flowers in the Rookery.

I resolved to do the same thing every morning, but I couldn't face it when I got out of bed.

x-post, awwww.

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 09:25 (nineteen years ago)

I had a rather nice weekend myself. Saturday: a shopping trip (for an outfit for next Saturday) that turned into a drive round obscure bits of West Yorkshire, such as Cleckheaton and Heckmondwike. Sunday: a day out to York with my dad.

Friday and Monday: nothing at all! Lazing around at home.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 09:27 (nineteen years ago)

No kitten with hammer, but here's one with what looks like a power lead.

http://www.incorporeal.org/files/images//uberkitten3_0.jpg

What colour were the flowers?

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 09:27 (nineteen years ago)

They were all different colours. The cherry blossoms were out which were pale pale pink. and there was another thing that had bright fuchsia blossoms which was awesome but I've no idea what it was. Another pink thing which might have been a Camelia.

The usual daffodils and narcissuses and hyacinths and things, too.

And a rogue Rhodedenrum that didnt' seem to know what time of year it was.

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 09:30 (nineteen years ago)

Are we still up for the York trip next week? (I have a car now, so can definitely go)

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 09:35 (nineteen years ago)

No, sorry, Pash, it's been called off. Lack of organisation, lack of funds, and other people having other plans. :-(

What kind of car did you get in the end?

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 09:37 (nineteen years ago)

I don't know. I'll still like to come, but I'd probably have to leave early - I have to be in Lincoln for 7pm. Ideally I'd prefer it if we could reschedule.

(xpost)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 09:38 (nineteen years ago)

A big, black SAAB estate. Bummer about the York trip, I was looking forward to it :( Maybe we can organise something for later in the year?

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 09:49 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, we should reschedule for later in the year, as I'd still like to see it. Just too much already going on this month.

A smile has finally been raised and I have Geoffrey Chaucher Hath A Blog to thank, for this gem of myddel Inglische:

Bad-a-bynge, bad-a-boume!

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 09:51 (nineteen years ago)

FFS, I swear to god, this new keyboard is making me TYPE like Geoffrey Chaucer. :-(

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 09:51 (nineteen years ago)

There. I made a report and started a thread for our next gig. Which, I'm sure, will just be another excuse for random interweb strangers to be rude to us, but whatever. At least I feel like I'm doing something.

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 10:18 (nineteen years ago)

Bah, the next report has an impossible problem, gah. how am I going to do this?

And rehearsals keep moving about. Now it's back at mine again. I'm so confused. Someone shoot me, please. Put me out of my misery.

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 10:48 (nineteen years ago)

Why has ILX become so dull? Why am I talking to myself?

I'm very dissatisfied with my lunch. Hang the cook. Wait, it was me.

I still haven't had a cup of coffee yet. But I'm scared the machine coffee here will be revolting.

The mystery of the... thing is solved. It turns out it was a "hippopatamus" and it's for my mum, not me. For some reason, I always thought she had taste, but this makes me doubt this.

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 11:48 (nineteen years ago)

Hey hon, did you get that Marie Rose thing I sent the other week? Was only l’il but thought it’d was up your strasse.
Speaking of misery, I was so miserable when I was at my parents this weekend that my Mum suggested I go back to London early ‘as you look so unhappy’. I don’t know whether that was her trying to get rid of me, or whether she thought I’d be better down here. Anyway, she’s bloody right, as always, as I feel much better now, buoyed up in a schardenfreuderish manner by the fact that I met seemingly the most perfect girl last night – pretty, skinny, great job on TV. And yet SHE was still bawling her eyes out at the end of night over some crap bloke. And I’m gonna get set up with a (I sincerely hope non arse fucking), super nice, rich City boy and then I’m gonna lock him up in the woodshed and make off with his car and all of his money. Ahahahaha! Bollocks to skinny indie boys. And yes for God’s sake have some bloody caffeine. Is not normal not to be ingesting the stuff.

Nobodys Prawn (Nobodysprawn), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 11:49 (nineteen years ago)

That's a very good evil laugh.

I am on my own in my office today. This isn't necessarily a good thing, because I have little motivation to actually do anything. Instead I'm surfing the web, reading ILX, updating the blog, and things along those lines.

(time to brew up another cup of tea, I think)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 11:51 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, Prawn, I did get the Mary Rose thing! It looks amazing. At our current organisational rate, we will probably get down to Portsmouth just in time for its opening. :-)

Nice City Boy? That's an oxymoron, I think. Then again, what do I no? I got some weird message from a dating site I forgot to unregister from a bloke who looks just like Prince Edward. Errr... Yeah, bollocks to skinny indie boys. Bollocks to all boys. Except for, erm, the lovely boys of the Watercooler. Unless you like that sort of thing.

"you look so unhappy" is a weird thing to say - but then again, if it gets you out of parental hell, it's fine. Now I wish I'd gone somewhere for my holidays, but where the heck would I go? Maybe I'll hire a National Trust cottage for the next one. Sigh.

Tea. What a brilliant idea. Actually, I'm nearly out of tea. I should go and buy some for rehearsal, but then again...

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 11:57 (nineteen years ago)

You could always tour round the country visiting country houses, castles, etc.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 12:02 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, I could do the Country Life tour. That would be great. I'm painting one of the houses from CL on my mural.

I was quite embarrassed as there were all these CL's open on my bed when my upstairs neighbour dropped by yesterday. But then she confessed that she's totally addicted to Elle Deco in the same pr0ny sort of way.

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 12:04 (nineteen years ago)

OH GOD, I'VE GOT TO GO HOME EARLY AND CLEAN UP ALL THE COUNTRY LIVES ALL OVER THE FLAT BEFORE MY BANDMATES COME ROUND FOR REHEARSAL, ARGH!

And there's paintcans everywhere. Help.

I think I'm going outside for a bit. Honest.

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 12:05 (nineteen years ago)

I have tea. And chocolate. I do not have coffee because the coffeeshop was too smokey.

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 12:33 (nineteen years ago)

I met seemingly the most perfect girl last night

was that the sports journalist one? i COULD NOT FOLLOW HER CONVERSATION AT ALL however hard i tried (apart from the bit about egypt, but even then i didn't know if she was talking about the same person all the time or if she was switching people and i didn't get what he/they had to do with it anyway).

was it me or her?

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 12:51 (nineteen years ago)

speaking of pink and purple paisley, the Hammersmith Ann Summers shop window display is currently pink and purple paisley...

koogs (koogs), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 12:51 (nineteen years ago)

Woo, chocolate

Tea is better than coffee anyway.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 12:51 (nineteen years ago)

I was very worried the other month when I walked past my local Ann Summers and saw they had a Mothers Day display in the window. Would you *really* get your mother a Mothers Day present from Ann Summers? To my mind that's just *wrong*

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 12:53 (nineteen years ago)

haha "was it me or her" = was the not being able to follow her conversation me being dim, or was she confusing (not was it me or her that was the perfect girl haha)

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 12:53 (nineteen years ago)

Please make Ann Summers stop. OK, if I were still having sex, I would like the idea of pink and purple paisley sexxxxy stuff, but it seems unlikely.

...unless of course, I write back to Prince Edward.

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 12:55 (nineteen years ago)

Write back to Prince Edward. Go on, it'll be fun!!!!!! Then he might give you a castle or something (as in stately home, before you euphemism fans get to work!)
Yes Emma, the perfect girl was the sports journo one. Though of course my dear, you are a perfect girl too hon it goes without saying!!!!!
I was just impressed with all the footie knowledge especially for some reason who the gay footballers are. That story about Egypt was awful though not being able to leave the hotel without half the Ivory Coast team or whatever. Yes, she was difficult to follow, but we were all pissed up on champagne, which is as it should be....

Nobodys Prawn (Nobodysprawn), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 13:42 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not sure I could... even for a castle.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/olmedia/1945000/images/_1948219_prince_edward.jpg

I mean, I'm a royalist and all, but I don't want lizard spunk anywhere near me.

for lunch i have a bagel and a doughnut - toroidal food!

http://mathworld.wolfram.com/Torus.html

koogs (koogs), Thursday, 18 May 2006 11:08 (nineteen years ago)

The W. E. kid is fifteen. Sadly there aren't any shops to send him to within walking distance. Well, there's the pub, but I doubt he'd get served.

I'm cheerful because I spotted someone on A Specialist Messageboard using an obscure Belle And Sebastian lyric as their post signature.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Thursday, 18 May 2006 11:11 (nineteen years ago)

Toroidal food! You could map its surface with seven colours!

The Minimal Criminal (kate), Thursday, 18 May 2006 11:13 (nineteen years ago)

The other day I discovered interesting things about tori (and got the entire office doing arithmetic) when we were trying to work out whether a big thin doughnut has more or less dough than a small fat doughnut.

beanz (beanz), Thursday, 18 May 2006 11:16 (nineteen years ago)

Aaaaaahhhhh... that page you linked to makes me happy, Koogsy!

Logically (without really doing the maths) I would think that a big thin donut would have more dough than a small fat one. So what was the result you came up with?

The Minimal Criminal (kate), Thursday, 18 May 2006 11:19 (nineteen years ago)

omg @ that t yorke vs c martin thread on ilm.

sat up late last night, depressed by a/ill wife and b/child's current autistic mental fog. put on headphones & wrote 5m piece of music based on scraping clonking sounds made on wiard modular vactrol filter. listened to it over and over again, 'till it sounded "right". It sounded great, but will listen to it again tonight, it probably sounds shit really. ugh, am fed up. kid will probably need coloured glasses to help tame his ASD-related hyperactivity & dyslexia. The glasses look cool, but cost 400 quid (w/consultation) and are basically a gigantic sign saying "this one is different to all the others". also, we're going to have to explain to him why he needs them, ie explain to 7yo child that his brain doesn't work properly, & because of this he needs to work harder that the other kids just to stay in the same place.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 18 May 2006 11:22 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, Pash, that all sounds rubbish. :-( I remember, at 7, my parents couldn't get me to wear regular glasses, let alone special ones. But still, if it helps him...

::sends along grooviness and good thoughts::

The Minimal Criminal (kate), Thursday, 18 May 2006 11:26 (nineteen years ago)

Interestingly enough (maybe), it turns out you need quite a big thin doughnut if you want as much dough as a small fat one, but I can't remember the tipping point. A small increase in the width of the dough makes a big difference, cos you're adding lots all round.

Pashmina that's harsh :( I hope the glasses help loads

beanz (beanz), Thursday, 18 May 2006 11:30 (nineteen years ago)

> an obscure Belle And Sebastian lyric

"...not everyone's cup of tea..."

the spinning doughnut is a thing of joy. you can flick it with your mouse and it'll spin forever...

koogs (koogs), Thursday, 18 May 2006 11:32 (nineteen years ago)

Haha, no, not that one. The quiet bit at the end of The Boy With The Arab Strap that you can hardly hear.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Thursday, 18 May 2006 11:38 (nineteen years ago)

Volume of a torus: http://www.webcalc.net/calc/0039.php

beanz (beanz), Thursday, 18 May 2006 11:40 (nineteen years ago)

Oh god, make me stop playing with the torus. I've just finished a book about the Four Colour Map Problem which has loads of interesting stuff about tori so I'm fascinated, watching it wobble.

The Minimal Criminal (kate), Thursday, 18 May 2006 11:43 (nineteen years ago)

yay, another gig booked! Hurrah for MySpace!

At the Notting Hill Arts Club as well. Cool. For some reason, even though it's the most horrible dump of a place, every time I go there I have an amazing time.

The Minimal Criminal (kate), Thursday, 18 May 2006 12:31 (nineteen years ago)

i'm just back from town getting stuff for tea - onion rings and hula hoops... (this may be a lie)

koogs (koogs), Thursday, 18 May 2006 12:36 (nineteen years ago)

oops, forgot the spaghetti hoops. 8)

koogs (koogs), Thursday, 18 May 2006 12:36 (nineteen years ago)

How does one calculate the volume of a pretzel?

beanz (beanz), Thursday, 18 May 2006 12:43 (nineteen years ago)

There are actually formulas that just plug in the number of holes and away you go...

The Minimal Criminal (kate), Thursday, 18 May 2006 12:44 (nineteen years ago)

Though a pretzel is technically a long skinny cylinder that has been tied in a knot, so it might not be that hard.

The Minimal Criminal (kate), Thursday, 18 May 2006 12:45 (nineteen years ago)

I cannot believe the code I just had to write. 7 layers of evaluation of 5 different if-then-else statements (or was it the other way around?). My head hurts just thinking about it.

The Minimal Criminal (kate), Thursday, 18 May 2006 13:53 (nineteen years ago)

You'd have to untie the pretzel and rearrange it into a torus, I guess...

Anyway I have a question about databases that I don't want to post in a whole new thread because I'm embarrassed at having such a boring question, but this is a tolerant databasey kinda thread...

My work currently uses a series of Access databases for all sorts of things, as well as some Excel spreadsheets as databases. We have a new person who's going to dedupe it all – having copied all the info into Excel – then put it back into a new database. She's trying to decide between Access, ACT, a web-based database, etc. Almost everyone uses the info for different things, incl. making email and post mailing lists, keeping subscriber info, marketing, contact cross-referencing, etc. Almost everyone uses PCs except me. I've got a mac. I'd like her to use something open source, with easy front ends, which can be got at through PCs or Macs. What combinations of things can I recommend?

beanz (beanz), Thursday, 18 May 2006 14:15 (nineteen years ago)

LAPP

Linux, Apache, PHP, PostgreSQL

Ed (dali), Thursday, 18 May 2006 14:18 (nineteen years ago)

I need to write 17*4 SQL statements, and each one is EVERY one is time consuming. I've been doing this since Tuesday, and I've only got 6*4 done. Ug.

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Thursday, 18 May 2006 14:19 (nineteen years ago)

I'm rub about those kind of reccomendations - alls I know is ACT is rubbish. It's really really awful, not user friendly at all, not customisable, reporting tools are useless. Also doesn't scale well at all. Don't do it.

The Minimal Criminal (kate), Thursday, 18 May 2006 14:19 (nineteen years ago)

Good, this useful thanks

beanz (beanz), Thursday, 18 May 2006 14:54 (nineteen years ago)

johhny, what's taking the time with those 17x4 sql statements? do you have to work them out one at a time or is it just lots of monkeywork? there might be an easier way if it's the latter (ie just using scripts instead)

realise now that i should've posted BB:WDY? thread before america woke up and england left work. oh um. at least this way it'll die quietly.

koogs (koogs), Thursday, 18 May 2006 15:35 (nineteen years ago)

polos!

koogs (koogs), Friday, 19 May 2006 07:57 (nineteen years ago)

All food should be available in torus shape.

Work is dead today. Much as I gripe about students, I like to at least have a few around.

Archel (Archel), Friday, 19 May 2006 08:02 (nineteen years ago)

Morning.

I'm supposed to have the Work Experience kid today again, but I'm going to try to palm him off on some other department with lots of very tedious menial jobs to do.

I got him told off for constantly texting people when he was supposed to be listening to what I was telling him - and it turns out the *reason* he was constantly texting people was that one of his relatives is dangerously ill in hospital. Hmmm.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Friday, 19 May 2006 08:04 (nineteen years ago)

You think he's lying?

Onimo (GerryNemo), Friday, 19 May 2006 08:08 (nineteen years ago)

If one of my relatives was dangerously ill I'd be visiting or at least phoning, though I realise many 15 yr olds text more than they speak.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Friday, 19 May 2006 08:10 (nineteen years ago)

If the relative is that dangerously ill, then he should not be at work at all. I don't believe the excuse, but then again, I'm a heartless bastard.

Argh. My parents are at it again, this time it's my dad just going and booking hotel rooms for me at his hotel EVEN THOUGH I have specifically told him that I'm not staying with either of them.

However, my brother just wrote, postponing the whole wedding. His fiance's mother has just died (been a rough year for her - her father died earlier this year) so understandably the whole thing has been put off for a while.

This probably sounds heartless, but it's kind of a wakeup call NOT to let this stupid infighting ruin my relationship with either parent - one day we'll wake up and they'll be dead, so need to put all the crap aside and just try to relate to them now.

The Minimal Criminal (kate), Friday, 19 May 2006 08:14 (nineteen years ago)

So true. Oh man, that must be terrible for your brother's fiancee :(

Yeah, I know. I don't really know what to say because I've never even met this woman, but I passed on my condolences, which was all I could do, really.

Anyway, it's coffee day. When should I start? :-)

Ed (dali), Friday, 19 May 2006 08:50 (nineteen years ago)

Ooh, that sounds good, but a bit far for mid-morning. Might just get a cappucino from Don Quixote. Too cold for a frapuccino today.

The Minimal Criminal (kate), Friday, 19 May 2006 08:53 (nineteen years ago)

Also, Ed, when are you leaving? Are you going to be in London for the Spiers and Boden gig on Tuesday?

The Minimal Criminal (kate), Friday, 19 May 2006 08:53 (nineteen years ago)

I am having maxwell house "bold" french roast. I like how they are ripping off Starbucks with their taste categories. BIG BLUE

Mr Jones (Mr Jones), Friday, 19 May 2006 08:56 (nineteen years ago)

Mmm, there is cake all over the office. Plus my boss brought in plantain crisps, yum!

The Minimal Criminal (kate), Friday, 19 May 2006 08:59 (nineteen years ago)

I think I will need some cake today.

Archel (Archel), Friday, 19 May 2006 09:06 (nineteen years ago)

Oh dear, I have just had cake. I feel woozy. Yarrrrrr.

The Minimal Criminal (kate), Friday, 19 May 2006 09:07 (nineteen years ago)

Going on Monday, worst luck.

Ed (dali), Friday, 19 May 2006 09:10 (nineteen years ago)

Bah. I'll probably go on my own anyway. I mean, I wimped out of Dead Meadow last night (mainly because I was enjoying talking to Catty so much that we just stayed in the restaurant) but I don't mind going to the Spitz by myself, as they have places to sit and stuff.

Though really, I just want coffee.

I have got to stop reading Secret Machines interviews. Brandon is just such a pretentious pseud, he's cracking me up.
