"The Neverending Story" by Limahl is fantastical and clearly just what you're looking for.
FALCOR, YOU'RE EVEN MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN I THOUGHT!

are all the pics at funnypics as funny as this one?

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 20:26 (nineteen years ago)

Is this the theme to the movie you're talking about?

I like the way the pic tells you that it's funny.

Gilbert O'Sullivan (kenan), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 20:27 (nineteen years ago)

And if anyone knows about humor, it's the Germans.

The boy phone is on top and he's bigger.

Sarah Madkitten McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 20:31 (nineteen years ago)

Jon, how did the whole Wesley Crusher thing even get started?

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 20:31 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, and: MAN, those sheets are ugly.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 20:31 (nineteen years ago)

But they do match the phones. Composition!

Gilbert O'Sullivan (kenan), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 20:32 (nineteen years ago)

I am listening to the Dresden Dolls for the first time RIGHT NOW.

I managed to avoid the CHILX hype for a long time because I thought they were going to be like Demolition Doll Rods or something.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 20:36 (nineteen years ago)

Is anyone else going to see J0sephine Foster at the Hide-out tomorrow night? If so, you'll see me there.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 20:37 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, the new record is... good. I honestly haven't listened to it in weeks. But there was that one week that I listened to it a lot, and I liked it then.

Gilbert O'Sullivan (kenan), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 20:38 (nineteen years ago)

i think the phones got themselves a nice cozy room at the hampton inn. it's not too cheap, not too expensive, and there's an olive garden right across the street.

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 20:38 (nineteen years ago)

That is clearly a La Quinta bedspread.

Gilbert O'Sullivan (kenan), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 20:41 (nineteen years ago)

i don't know. the tones seem a little muted.

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 20:43 (nineteen years ago)

Motel 6 y'all

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 20:43 (nineteen years ago)

Judging by the age of the phones, you're all wrong. It's some 70's era motel along a deserted stretch of U.S. Highway somewhere in the Dakotas that is being run by a mineral rights squatter, his common law wife, and their collection of cats. They haven't had a guest in 3 years, mostly because of the phone copulation scaring away the few tourists that venture down their road.

Holy makkara, Toivo! (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 20:48 (nineteen years ago)

Or maybe the place has ants or something.

Holy makkara, Toivo! (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 20:49 (nineteen years ago)

so not gonna happen

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 20:55 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I kind of thought of that too as I was spitting that shit out.

Holy makkara, Toivo! (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 20:56 (nineteen years ago)

The "so not gonna happen" pic is one of the few things I have seen on the other board I read long before ILX. Good ol' awkward.jpg.

why do comics always draw their so-called "awkward girls" like what's her face in that teen movie that's a "goofy" artist until she, like, takes off her glasses and then she's fucking smoking.

BIG NEWS IN IMMIGRATION LAW PROTEST LAND!

When I arrived at work today the restaurant was abuzz with people saying (in Spanish) "Are you going to show up for work?" They were talking about May 1, the day of the commerce boycott to promote immigrants' rights.

As I was in the chef's office I saw a list of employees headed with "Si/No." At our pre-shift meeting the general manager asked who planned on not working that day, saying that there would be absolutely no repercussions to taking the day off. All of the bussers present showed their hands as did one Latino waiter and I. One Latina server said, "I waaaant to be off....but I really need to work!" She was booed.

Already 1 other restaurant in our group (of 4 or 5) is closing on that day and it looks like we will too.

The thing that surprised and excited me the most was the fact that the GM told us that she would be boycotting work that day in a show of solidarity. (She said that her boyfriend, who is Mexican, told her that he excpected no less of her.)

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 21:16 (nineteen years ago)

what is "JAMAS SERA"?

Gilbert O'Sullivan (kenan), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 21:40 (nineteen years ago)

Nick -- The Great Flydini is great. A little further down the page is a Letterman clip with Steve Martin and Earl Scruggs playing banjo that's pretty ace.

Gilbert O'Sullivan (kenan), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 22:03 (nineteen years ago)

I mean, it's not funny, it's just banjos.

Gilbert O'Sullivan (kenan), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 22:28 (nineteen years ago)

Oh. Jamas = never.

"The people united shall never be defeated." (In order to make it rhyme in English you can say "the people united shall never be divided.")

In Spanish it rhymes with "la gente pudrida jamas sera comida." which means, "the rotten (putrified) people will never be food." Which is funny, in case you didn't know.

Lovely as Cleopatra's anus may have been, compared to my lady's, hers is a (uncl, Wednesday, 19 April 2006 22:30 (nineteen years ago)

Jesse and I are going over to Jessa's empty apartment to make full use of her DVD player and digital cable. You're all invited. And actually, I would prefer some company, because otherwise Jesse might rape me.

hey, who was it on one of these threads who played a loft in pilsen? it was somewhere around 18th and damen, the same place that the mexican hardcore show was i think. i'm looking to set up a show for some friends and could REALLY REALLY use a point of contact. please send me and email if you can help.

THANKS in advance.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 22:56 (nineteen years ago)

I don't know Stormy at all and I have no idea what has transpired between the two of you at any time, and I think banning you has become a meme all by itself which is BS and not funny but is being picked up by people who don't/shouldn't have any beef with you in the first place. But on the other hand you ALWAYS BRING IT UP ON-BOARD. Someone is unbanning you, dude -- do you know who? (Don't answer here!) Make your own alliance/s and work that angle instead of appealing to the group, because the gestalt is hugely more likely to be bullshit.

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 15:44 (nineteen years ago)

I remember Stence was carrying a large package with him (?), and Mercury Rev's "The Dark is Rising" was playing in the theater while it was seating, and Stence pointed out that All is Dream was released on 9/11, and the song's lyrics took on a spooky significance thereafter.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 15:45 (nineteen years ago)

well whatever, i guess. i went to see brian wilson with rob. it was fun

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 15:45 (nineteen years ago)

Haha oh jeez, "alliances" -- what is this, Lord of the Flies?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 15:45 (nineteen years ago)

well whatever, i guess. i went to see brian wilson with rob. it was fun

Wow really -- he takes you seriously?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 15:46 (nineteen years ago)

There's a song called "The Dark is Rising"???? Is it in any way related to the book??

JMZ: YES.

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 15:46 (nineteen years ago)

I don't know what the book is.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 15:48 (nineteen years ago)

i've been to Brian Wilson's HOUSE.

gbx (skowly), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 15:49 (nineteen years ago)

Wow really -- he takes you seriously?

i dunno, not sure what you mean by that. it was fun though. then we went to smart bar to see morgan geist.

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 15:50 (nineteen years ago)

Also I am hardly the person to qualify/define "bro-ness" but it has nothing to do with being predatory and I don't want to let that stand. Any...opportunistic meanness is coincidental overlap in personalities.

Book = The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper, it's the first volume of a young adult fantasy series with vaguely Arthurian roots and I LOVE IT FOR EVER AND EVER.

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 15:51 (nineteen years ago)

Sorry, I guess that was a bit inscrutable, Phil. I was just thinking, one of the things he seems to hate me for is having horrible musical taste, and I tend to like a lot of the same stuff you do. I can't imagine that you bro down with a 12-pack of High Life and get yr Led out all that often.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 15:52 (nineteen years ago)

reading about that other board has me questioning my participation on this one.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 15:54 (nineteen years ago)

Not to derail this scintillating conversation, but I am totally obsessed with this website that sells old lady clothes.

Look, muumuus!

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 15:54 (nineteen years ago)

Sorry, Otto.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 15:55 (nineteen years ago)

yeah i was wondering if i was supposed to be insulted by that or not. i love high life though. i wish more places in ny had it instead of pbr or reingold.

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 15:55 (nineteen years ago)

I'm sorry about that.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 15:56 (nineteen years ago)

Phil, I realized right after I typed that that you bought me a High Life at the Hot Chip show the last time I saw you. ;-)

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 15:56 (nineteen years ago)

HOLY MACKEL, AMANDA, how did you know I LOVE housecoats?!?!? I am totally ordering.

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 15:58 (nineteen years ago)

Exclusive clubs center on exclusion. It's not exclusive if there aren't people who care whether or not they're included. By caring you're giving them affirmation. (Not that I've ever seen the board.)

Eazy (Eazy), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 15:59 (nineteen years ago)

I've enjoyed a housecoat in my day too. Dusters are the new gaucho pants.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 16:00 (nineteen years ago)

Holy makkara, Toivo! (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 16:02 (nineteen years ago)

Amanda, I need to order some of those to wear around the apartment after the wedding.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 16:03 (nineteen years ago)

It's fun to wear housecoats because underneath YOU'RE NAKED.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 16:04 (nineteen years ago)

Fuck. I didn't even mean to make this into a thing. I just made an idle comment.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 16:04 (nineteen years ago)

You're all going to turn into flashers

Holy makkara, Toivo! (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 16:05 (nineteen years ago)

It's fun to wear housecoats because underneath YOU'RE NAKED.

Wait, WHAT?

Is a housecoat = a robe?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 16:05 (nineteen years ago)

It's fun to wear housecoats because underneath YOU'RE NAKED.

I'm imagining white terrycloth, for some reason.

Holy makkara, Toivo! (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 16:07 (nineteen years ago)

"they"

Doesn't this suggest that the NB is much more single-minded than it actually is?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 16:08 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, stop campaigning to get unbanned already.

Gilbert O'Sullivan (kenan), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 16:09 (nineteen years ago)

THEY ARE WATCHING AND THEY ARE NOT IMPRESSED

Gilbert O'Sullivan (kenan), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 16:09 (nineteen years ago)

Can we ban jaymc from the Chicago thread until he stops talking about being banned from the noise board?

Gilbert O'Sullivan (kenan), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 16:10 (nineteen years ago)

Hmm, doing a GIS on "housecoat" shows a lot of robes and a few nightgowns. They're not really coats at all, are they?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 16:10 (nineteen years ago)

I DIDN'T MEAN TO TALK ABOUT IT, BUT IT BECAME A TOPIC OF CONVERSATION.

Eazy (Eazy), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 16:11 (nineteen years ago)

time for a new thread.

Chicago: robe or housecoat?

Gilbert O'Sullivan (kenan), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 16:12 (nineteen years ago)

I said "they" because it seems to me there is a little ruling cabal on that board. Am I wrong?

Holy makkara, Toivo! (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 16:13 (nineteen years ago)

Do you imagine laurel is part of a "cabal"? I don't think she's the type.

Gilbert O'Sullivan (kenan), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 16:13 (nineteen years ago)

can i ask chicago for a bit of advice?

i did this totally freakish thing. A dumb thing, really.

So i started temping with this temp agency. yesterday they called & said that i'm one of their top choices for this temp-to-hire job that pays $16/hour. the deal is that the company will look at their top three choices & pick one of the people. i'm in that pile. it could start as soon as monday & last three months & then possibly be a permanent thing. it's with a community developer
anyway, i have this plane ticket i bought to go to china. i'm 99% sure i'm going. maybe the right job would keep me here?
i haven't told the temp agency that i'm going to be gone for a month & now i'm freaked out about this job & how i need the money & how it would look really bad on me & the agency to send out someone who can't be there the full time. so today i called my rep at the temp agency & left a voice mail message where i rambled on about a 'family emergency' & the possibility of me having to leave town.
now i have to call her back b/c she left a message.
do i maintain the facade? do i construct a story about how my parents are paying me to look after my grandmother who is going to move into their house until my mom is finished with school and/or they get a nurse? OR do i actually tell the truth & say, 'i don't know why i lied. the truth is that i'm going to china.'

why did i get myself in this pickle at all??

Sweet Tater (kelstarry), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 16:15 (nineteen years ago)

Not going would give you a) the financial security from whatever $ you would spend in China over a month and b) the financial security of working steadily now through then. On the other hand, in 10 years you'll remember your trip to China and you won't remember the office work much.

Lying takes time and stress. If you can skip that part, better to lie by witholding than lie by making things up.

Eazy (Eazy), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 16:19 (nineteen years ago)

better to lie by witholding than lie by making things up.

This is usually my strategy. Reading that bit about your grandmother made me feel really weird.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 16:20 (nineteen years ago)

So yeh. The cable guy wasn't an asshole after all. He just had NO customer-relations skills (ie filter that kept him from expressing what a pain in the ass things were going to be).

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 16:20 (nineteen years ago)

but will it be well received if i fess up to the slight lie? i already mumbled something on the phone about a family thing. i feel like an ass. this is not like me to do stuff like this.

Sweet Tater (kelstarry), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 16:23 (nineteen years ago)
