Most of our work servers - the ones installed before I arrived - have pretty boring names. When I named our new* central file server 'central' at work it didn't bother anyone, but the later names 'circle' and 'jubilee' raised some eyebrows.

* "reconditioned" is a better word than new - I took an old NT4 box and put new disks and Linux in/on it.

I used to be able to name the servers here, and we went through a phase of naming them all after figures from mythology (Greek mythology, Roman mythology, Irish mythology, we were very ecumenical). Then we got some kill joy consultants in, and now all our servers are called things like 14WETRWR-01A.

The IT dudes from our parent corporation seem to name all our servers after things from The Matrix. Dozer, Neo, etc. What's really LOL is that I've heard ppl from other organizations say the same thing. How many servers are out there named Morpheus?
