driving from boston to new york (or other sensible ways of getting there)

so, we're going to new york next weekend. i've only ever done this by chinatown bus in the past, but we have a car, and it seems dumb not to use it. however, i imagine that if we don't find a friend's to park at, it's going to get very expensive. so, is driving a dumb idea? is there a sensible option involving driving part-way?

There are garages in Manhattan that are surprisingly reasonable, in the neighborhood of $35/night. I don't know about driving partway; usually we just park outside our friend's place in Brooklyn.

if the Upper West Side of Manhattan is convenient you can often find parking spots on Riverside Drive north of 96th street thru 120th.

my sister lives in suburban Boston so we drive up & back several times a year. try my patented "I hate 1-95" dogleg: Mass Pike>395@Worchester>95 to Milford Conn exit 38>Merritt Parkway>Hutchinson Pway>Cross County Hway>Henry Hudson(Rt9)>Riverside Drive. avoid the Cross Bronx Expressway at all costs.

AVOID THE MASS PIKE AT ALL COSTS. Every time I've tried to exit the city via the Pike, it's taken me 3 hours to leave the state.

hmm, maybe I've been lucky, bet you live closer to downtown. everytime we drive into Boston from the burbs the traffic is indeed torturous, fully the equal of NYC's byzantine highway system.
