Time we had an ILE booze-up I think. How does Tuesday next week sound?

Tom, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Fine as long as it's not a Sam Smith pub.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

anyday next week except wednesday

gareth, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

boo, week before pay day.

chris, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What are you talking about? Today is payday!

Jonnie, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

For you Jonnie, for me it's the sixth of Feb!

chris, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Any day but not Monday or Thursday are fine by me! Tuesday is good!

Sarah, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Just because you have your payday on some FREAK DAY Cabbage doesn't mean there shouldn't be an ILE drink.

OK then Tuesday. I was not aware that there were any pubs other than Sam Smiths.

Tom, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am prancing off to the Royal Opera House to see Onegin so you will have to do without me. But I am not drinking anyway.

Emma, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Please not a sam smith's pub. surely something a bit more indie :-)

Alan Trewartha, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

...with a good selection of crisps.

Jonnie, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

surely something a bit more indie

good mixer! you know you want to!

gareth, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

NO. NORTH. LONDON.

Sarah, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

good mixer = indie in which parallel dimension??

Alan Trewartha, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes to North London.Preferably Highgate so I can walk home.

Jonnie, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nooooo, we hates it, it takes away my beer money and gives me a long journey home on the tubeses!

Sarah, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Not North London ideally - somewhere more central please, won't be so bad on a school night.

Tom, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i guess the Electricity Showrooms is too Nathan Barley?

, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think you should all go to All Bar One. Or perhaps a Pitcher and Piano. Or SOAS bar.

Emma, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tom & Pete. In the Electricity Showrooms?? I think not, Gareth.

N., Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

nah, it'd be dead funny.

chris, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Publoggers are banned from going into wanky bars. Thank god.

Emma, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Preferably somewhere central and not Monday or Wednesday.

DG, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hozzy for me on Wednesday morning first thing and I don't much want to turn up smelling of the ALE. So looks like you'll have to do without my compelling presence. Poor old you.

There is nothing indier than The Smiths, incidentally.

Tim, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Non Sam Smiths boozers, central location FITE!! I mean, ur, FIND!! Tuesday/Wednesday both fine by me. Not at the SOAS bar by the way :)

Sarah, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tuesday good. Non-SS pub in central london that is not shit I cannot help you with. Risign Sun ruled out on grounds of playing what sounded like an entire Pearl Jam album last time I was in there.

RickyT, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yea, but grunge is kitsch now isn't it?

, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well we might not have a pub yet but we've got somewhere. Monday for the day of pub decision.

Tom, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I shall be attending the Royal Festival Hall that eve. I shall attend another get-together at a later date.

jel, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i think i'm in on this: as i am responsible for dragging MC into the sam smith's that broke his camel's back i am excused suggesting venues i hope; all i ask is a tall bud and a bar to drink it by (well near) (did you see what i did there?)

mark s, Friday, 25 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh shit, shit, shit. I really wanted to come along. Tuesday is the only day I cannot do next week. The reason is most embarrassing and middle-class and forty something, but since I feel I'm among friends I'll share it with you.

I have to meet my financial adviser. (Cringes in embarassment)

All he'll say is "why have you bought 3 box sets in the last week".

Hopefully Fancy a Pint IV isn't far away,

Dr. C, Saturday, 26 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Bring her/him along dr c, I'm sure they'll have a lovely time. school nites in london are really out of bounds for me, umless i have some sort of brainstorm and NEED BOUZE and CONVERSATION

CarsmileSteve, Saturday, 26 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I might try. He's a bit of a dullard tho', but a good dullard cos he's good at money saving scams.

Dr.C, Saturday, 26 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

pub finding made easy

Alan Trewartha, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hozzy first thing on Wednesday for me so Boozy Tuesy also off-limits. Shame.

Tim, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The Marlybone Tup, marlybone high street? Central, good beer.

The Red Lion, Hoxton Street?

Ed, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

How easily could people get to Marylebone? It's a doddle for me (if I remember my A-Z) but anyone else...?

Tom, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

baker's street and regents park ( great oldskool tube station) at one end, bond street at the other for tubes and busses all of the bakers street oxford st and marlybone rd.

Ed, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

pretty easy for me too, and Jonnie and I will be there early as I've got redundancy class tomorrow and I believe that Polar boy is on earlies.

chris, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Where is this 'Marylebone' place you speak of?

Emma, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's a long, long walk from Tottenham COurt road on a rainy Friday night, that's where it is.

Tim, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What's redundancy class? Is it like General Studies A-level?

Jonnie, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

it's cool, I get to sit there and listen at how to improve my cv, apply for jobs and stuff like that, more importantly, free coffee and biscuits, which is a miracle for here. The lady who does the course is kinda cute too, if a bit posh.

chris, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Has she got a fragrant snood? Most posh ladies do.

Jonnie, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

she doesn't have a snood, and I haven't sniffed her pashmina yet, but I'll let you know.

chris, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The Marylebone Tup appears to be part of the "Massive Pubs" chain. "Big on sport" but "no food."

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

So what's the deal then? I thought I'd have to miss it due to SKINTAGE but the Inland Revenue sent me a cheque for £20 this morning.

DG, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I can certainly make Mary Le Bone- and this Tup is intriguing. But is it top end or bottom end of Marylebone High Street?

Pete, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Definitely the tup end. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Jonnie, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

One of the best pubs for proper beer in Chesterfield is called the Derby Tup, on Sheffield Road, mind you, after checking the website, it's definitely not part of the chain that this Marylebone one is, far too rough (which is a good thing).

chris, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The Tup in Stoke Newington was bad enough but then they renamed it 'The Stoke Tup' in a bid for lamo pun kudos. Now I'm definitely not going there anymore.

N., Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

oh yeah, i see! i hadn't noticed that stoke tup=stoked up before. i just thought it was a shit abbreviation. and now i see that it is funny! oh my...

gareth, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

there is also the angel in the fields but I've never been in, and two pubs (the rising sun and the prince albert) which I've seen danny baker drinking in.

Ed, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

TAITF is a fine pub but ruled out from this equation by its Sam Smiths-ness. Don't know the other two Ed mentions. I like the Golden Eagle round the corner, myself.

Tim, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Anyone know a pub that serves timothy taylor in London?

Ed, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

We have a mere 24 hours to decide!!

Tom, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Is anyone invited to this pub thing or do you have to have 'done your time' re: contributing to the conversational melee? I have only discovered this fountain of wit ce soir.

Jacqueline Duncan, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Anyone invited, I say show up.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

These meet-ups are usually free-for-all, I don't see why this one shouldn't be, WHENEVER IT ACTUALLY IS. C'mon people, I need to know soon or I'm off to the cinema tomorrow (much cheering from the IL* massive) instead.

DG, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm off to cambridge for the day (photocopying books! imperial library = crap), but may well make it this evening, particularly if the pub is agreed on by lunchtime or so (checking web may be tricky). what's more i'll try to avoid the out of character monosyllabism that's affected me at previous ILE pub meets and actually talk...

toby, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

if you make it Toby, i'll bring the random number thing with me instead of posting it

gareth, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry to change my mind but I don't think I can make it tonight. After getting a threatening letter from a credit card company I find myself £109.34 down and the bank balance in a similarly pathetic state. Of course I still spent £35 on Buffy box set(s) yesterday BUT it was BUY ONE GET ONE FREE rah I have the whole of season one and half of season two! Oh Willow you dork! So great!

But anyway, I should probably give boozing a rest for this week. It seems a lot of us can't make it anyway chiz chiz.

Sarah, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought we had agreed on the Marylebone Tup. Gosh, no-ones coming, we don't know what pub its is.

Let me take charge. See you all in the Tup at 7pm or later. Details below: The Marylebone Tup

Pete, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Can't come tonight anyway - now have to attend PFI meeting at St George's.

Looks from here as though no specific venue's been agreed, so probably just as well.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

But it's only got "An average range of drinks"!

Jonnie, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah I've only just seen Mr Baran's post. Still can't make it though. Maybe another time.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't make it either. Oh no wait a minute WHAT AM I SAYING etc. 7 pm in the Tup it is.

Tom, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Also Tup pubs are BLUDDY HORRIBLE!

Sarah, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ed: not relevant to this evening's proceedings, but you can get a fine pint of Landlord in the Old Bell at the Ludgate Circus end of Fleet Street.

Tim, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought they might be.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

gareth - i'll prol make it, unless i buy so much stuff this afternoon that i can't face carrying it around. i just posted the boc cd to you from cambridge, duh.
