yet another way in which the U.S. is lagging behind

The experimental one they built only goes up to 100 mph, but they're working on one to go from Shanghai to Hangzhou in about 30 mins(at 280 mph).

So, if they figure out how to manufacture these things cheap-like, can we finally start building(read: importing) mass hi-speed public rail in america, then?

There's also a supertrain project in the works to connect LA to Vegas. 80 minutes to Vegas! The only problem has been the collection of funds. It's still in the initial stages of planning. Who know's how far this will go.
