I do not take it that I am speaking ill of the dead when I disagree with this overly enthusiastic appraisal of Mr. Ruykeser's talents in the comedic direction.

Far greater than his talent for delivering a joke was his talent for looking puckish. Whenever he delivered his monologue at the start of his dreary financial program, his eyes would twinkle, his lips would purse in the irrepressible beginnings of a smile, he would absolutely 'sell' the idea that he was the most amusing raconteur on the planet. Then out would pop some vapid pun or other on debentures or short-selling.
