A couple of weeks ago, to my absolute horror, I discovered that they've changed the flavor of the pink SweetTarts. I am still distraught. Pink SweetTarts were a reason for living.

jeez, 'circusfucking' is NOT one word. please god no.

I so need to get involved in the convenience store candy scene again. Kids got some crazy shit these days, green goo in test tubes and such, I just have to try it.

Warheads! rock! Also, my friend bought some Durian candies recently. If you can eat one, yr a hero, if you can eat two at once, you're without a doubt asian.

But circus fucking peanuts are GRATE!!! They have the best use in the world... take them to open mic nights, poetry readings and slams, and throw them at anyone who violates the rules of Taste.

Endless fun...

Irn Bru bars. Yum.

You'd run out of peanuts fairly rapidly I fear.

Tom, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

We'd usually buy about 4 bags...

masonic boom, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Definitely not those shrimps - they taste like sweaty pillows. Highland Toffee is dead nice but an absolute bugger to eat, the confectionery equivalent of Stretch Armstrong.

Jonnie, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I will second Irn-Bru bars and add whams desperate dan bars, refreshers, dennis the menace bars.

Chsnging nsmes of Sweets Classic or Dud?

As i seem to rember, according to the ad campaign, they change the name of marathons to snickers cos australians would be to dumb to know what a marathon was. Spurious reasoning methinks and undervaluing the intelligence of aussies

Ed, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

There's an antique shop in Glasgow that used to have a selection of sweets with their old wrappers. it was about £10 for a Marathon or a packet of Opal Fruits. They did look cool though.

Jonnie, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Those Irn-Bru bars are the sweet equivalent of a nuclear meltdown.

But I just read about m&ms which have got dulce de leche in them, this sounds like the most heavenly piece of confectionery ever manufactured, if anyone's tried them please give me a report as my flatmate is going over to the states next week and he's underinstruction to bring me back a box of them and a box of peanut butter twixes

cabbage, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I refuse to eat m&m's since I saw this http://www.m- ms.com/bakery/tips.html which seems to be an m&m throwing itself up.

Jonnie, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Throwing food = sport of Gods. Cue anecdote: in moovee theatre (aged 12-about), once initiated v. heated candy-projectile fight. Started when I pipped someone right good on back of head w/ a Jaffa. He (& friends) were similar armed, so they unloaded on us & we unloaded on them (me: box each of Jaffas & Tangy Fruits). House lights & multiple ushers intervened. Then settled down & watched film: Blue Thunder = v. good, w/ big fuck-off helicopter.

AP, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Peanut butter Twixes do sound nice but not as nice as Sour Skittles, which are probably old hat to Yanks. I must admit to being something of a sweet fan, so here's what's rotting my teeth at the moment:

Irn Bru bars. Old favourite. You've got to have about five in a row, with a can of Irn Bru to wash them down, to get the full motherfucking effizzect.

Cola bottle variants. It's a well-known fact that cola bottles are put in Haribo in large amounts because they're cheap. However, fizzy cola bottles, fizzy cherry cola bottles, fizzy bubble gum bottles (yes - the fucking shit) etc. are wicked.

Astro belts. You've probably guessed that I mainly like sour stuff by now. I prefer strawberry flavour but apple's alright.

Jelly beans. Fuck all those expensive jelly beans - you just want cheap ones. Does anyone else find that there's usually one flavour that's just horrible but you eat them anyway?

Those Starburst (i.e. OPAL FRUITS) gums with the jelly ones and the sour ones. They put them up from 10p a packet to 30p the day after I bought 8 packets. They had me hooked.

Foam bananas. If you've got a friend that looks like a monkey. 1p each for a bit of bullying.

Lemon Crystals - basically just lemon-flavoured sugar. It's not sour enough though and it's the one sweet I worry about my health while eating.

Jelly Babies. But not Bassetts because they're too expensive and a bit sickly.

It's not really the same thing, but for the record my favourite ever sweet is the Sherbet Lemon.

I'm not even fat.

Greg, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

wine gums are nice as long as they Maynards or Marks and Spencers (yes I am a terrible snob)

Jonnie, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Durian candies? Doesn't matter if you're Asian or not, *anybody* who could get two of those things down at once is certifiably nuts. As one article described it a few years back, it's 'the bastard fruit of the goddamned to hell.'

Dark chocolate of any kind = good. Ghirardelli's dark chocolate = heaven.

Anything that involves dark chocolate with mint inside, ie York Peppermint Patties, Junior Mints. They're chocolate and they're mint, they're very refreshing.

Ally, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Peppermint and dark chocolate... that must be a... PEPPERMINT CRISP!!! Do they make them anywhere outside of South Africa? It's like dark chocolate with mint flavouried fibre optics inside... there is no other way to describe. Yummier than anything on earth. Oh GAWD, are there any Seth Efrikans on this board willing to box some and mail them to me, since my gran has gone into a nursing home?

Remember those adds where the paenut butter jar weilding person would bimp into the chocolate bar eating person and their mutual anger at gettin g the two mixed woud end in glory as they discovered a new taste? Well, why the fuck was someone walking around eating a jar of peanut butter?

Mike Hanle y, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I've done that before. I've also eaten a jar of spaghetti sauce.

Ally, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Pete once caught me (well, it wasn't too hard as I was standing in the middle of the kitchen) scoffing a whole jar of yummy tomato and olive pasta sauce from Sainsburys then went and told all our mates that I was a complete freak for doing so.

Emma, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I hadn't heard that one actually Emma. Urgh.

Mind you it wasn't a jar of pasta from out of the bin.

Mike Hanle y, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

An even better food implausability in commercials are those damn breakfasts they show with cold cereal bowls. I have my doubts.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Are your cereal bowls usually hot then, Ned?

Richard Tunnicliffe, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Okay, so I'm not the only person who has eaten spaghetti sauce, sans pasta. I don't feel so weird now.

It's just that sometimes I don't have food in my house. And other times I am wicked binging and purging, and need something to stuff in. Peanut butter is good by itself though, why do you need to add anything to it, you can eat a spoonful of it, it's good.

Ally, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Peanut butter is for fools. DIsgusting! I only like it in pad thai. And to eat peanut butter inthe subway...just inexcusable.

Mike Hanle y, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Am I the only person who initially read "eating a jar of peanut butter" as gnoshing on the entire thing, glass and all?

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I, too, have eaten pasta sauce straight from the jar. Star sauces are too good to put pasta in, I think. I have also been known to squirt cream straight into my mouth.

Madchen, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Pasta sauce binges seem to be a chick thing. Oh them crazy hormones.

Emma, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Well DAn thatwould be more interesting. Maybe if it were a little jar. Some people eat glass you know. (And I dont mean Phillip's wife)

Mike Hanle y, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I'm hot enough without them, Richard, thank you very much. And if you do eat the whole damn jar of peanut butter, does that mean chewing up Peter Pan's pert, punchable face?

Lately on a York Peppermint Patty kick because they've got a bin of singles at the convenience store counter.

I always wondered why something called Circus Peanuts (which I actively enjoy) tasted like bananas and had the texture of expanding foam insulation. Thanks to this thread, I've just learned that in the UK they're called Foam Bananas.

https://abitofhome.ca/5785-large_default/bumper-bag-foam-bananas-180g.jpg

From now on I will wonder why the yellow Foam Bananas became orange-colored and named Circus Peanuts.
