Oh, collegepaws

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Thursday, 4 May 2006 14:05 (nineteen years ago)

Haha wait, I love how they're ostensibly being sought out for being on the field during "closure hours," and it just so happens that everyone pictured turns out to be smoking something that doesn't appear to be tobacco -- were people trespassing for Weedfest 2006 or something?

Ha wait nevermind, I didn't notice it was Boulder.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 4 May 2006 14:06 (nineteen years ago)

this is a great, great setup though:

On 4-20-2006 University officials closed Farrand Field from 12 Noon until 5 PM. The field was closed off with barricades, yellow jacketed "event staff" personnel and police officers.

Approximately 40 signs were posted on all sides of the field advising that the field was closed and that video and photographic surveillance was going to be used on and around the field that day. A photo of one of the signs is shown to the right.

Those individuals who are pictured below and on additional pages were photographed on the field during the closure hours as posted on the signs.

HOW DO I SHOT BLAZING UP NOT IN FRONT OF THE COPPS ON VIDEOTAPE

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Thursday, 4 May 2006 14:07 (nineteen years ago)

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Thursday, 4 May 2006 14:08 (nineteen years ago)

Identified?

http://www.colorado.edu/police/420_Photo_Album/pages/20060420%20IMAGE%20036_jpg.htm

Yeah! He's gonna be my next husband!

Floating down, the sound resounds around the icy waters underground. (kate), Thursday, 4 May 2006 14:08 (nineteen years ago)

xpost, yeah Tom --

Haha neither did I notice that it was "on 4/20/2006" -- i.e., yes, they were trespassing for Weedfest 2006!

Boulder's always been rigorously dry about alcohol and then strangely lax about drugs, which as of the mid-to-late 90s you could buy without effort on the street (or from the cafe immediately next door to the police station) -- it seems like they've tried to scale back on the most egregious displays of it and found that the culture's too well established to make a dent without lots of attention.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 4 May 2006 14:09 (nineteen years ago)

are 4/20 college kid stoners the Rasta equivalent of C&E Christians?

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Thursday, 4 May 2006 14:10 (nineteen years ago)

those blunts are totally ridiculous btw. one of those kids cold has a peter in his mouth.

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Thursday, 4 May 2006 14:11 (nineteen years ago)

Oh childrens I remember a day when you couldn't walk from the Circle K to that place what Robert Redford once worked in without being offered acid six times and shrooms at least once (but hell, if you can make that walk now without tripping over a passed-out digeridoo player in a doorway then all is not so bleak).

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 4 May 2006 14:11 (nineteen years ago)

Also the last time I was near that field was around the time this freaked-out acidified hippie girl suddenly ran up to my friend E and was like "you need to hold this backpack for me, I'll come and get it from you later" and then ran off, and then E carried the bag around for a while before it occurred to him that it might be full of DRUGS and that she might be ON THE LAM, so later he opened it up and lo and behold the entire thing was full of tampons.

Then later we saw the girl and she totally didn't remember him.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 4 May 2006 14:14 (nineteen years ago)

didn't we have a thread about this last week?

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Thursday, 4 May 2006 14:36 (nineteen years ago)

I donno, if we did I missed it. Which is entirely possible.

"Hey guys, I just killed someone!"

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Thursday, 4 May 2006 16:28 (nineteen years ago)

Ehh, whatever, the most any of these kids can get is some kind of disciplinary probation for trespassing.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 4 May 2006 16:47 (nineteen years ago)

then why were they specifically trying to take pictures of them in action?

A Nairn (moretap), Thursday, 4 May 2006 16:51 (nineteen years ago)

This is going to be an expensive bit of police work

JW (ex machina), Thursday, 4 May 2006 16:54 (nineteen years ago)

hey nabisco how much weed will $50 get you out there?

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Thursday, 4 May 2006 16:56 (nineteen years ago)

'cause me and my e-mail posse are pretty sure we just identified the entire cast of JACKASS and CKY

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Thursday, 4 May 2006 16:57 (nineteen years ago)

Nairn, that was the point of my whole snafu earlier. It was 4/20 -- stoner in-joke day -- so the whole point of the trespassing was to get together and celebrate by smoking a bunch of weed. They wouldn't have had to pick smokers out of a crowd; everyone would be smoking anyway.

If the point is to chill out the public smoking, they have every reason to scare the kids with a CAUGHT ON FILM manhunt, and since it'll be campus discipline and not official law enforcement they'll have a lot more leeway to crack down on them for it. But that'll be for some student administrator to bargain out with them -- there's no real legal force that's gonna come from visual evidence of possession of something that appears to be marijuana (or even visual evidence of possession of drug paraphernalia).

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 4 May 2006 17:18 (nineteen years ago)

So how about study abroad trips to Mexico and Colombia for all? First hand experience with drug cartels. If they escape without being kidnapped they get a passing grade?

A Nairn (moretap), Thursday, 4 May 2006 17:18 (nineteen years ago)

How close of the cameras some of these people were to get mugshots like those? Didn't they notice anything?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 4 May 2006 17:21 (nineteen years ago)

Cellphone cams?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 4 May 2006 17:22 (nineteen years ago)

geoff (gcannon), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:14 (nineteen years ago)

They have a "Hemp March" here in Helsinki this Saturday, maybe I should go there in case I'd get such cool pics on a website. And I should build the most ridiculous bong imaginable to show off, a life-size William Shatner or something.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:15 (nineteen years ago)

I did not go to Boulder. I grew up in Colorado and most of my high school friends went to Boulder. So I visited and stuff.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:15 (nineteen years ago)

Also in my experience one of the reasons people smoke in Boulder who wouldn't otherwise is that laws regarding appropriate drinking age are actually enforced. Last I was there (and it's been a while) it felt like some sort of vote had been taken and everyone had decided they'd rather see all the students stoned all the time than drunk.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:17 (nineteen years ago)

I think you are off, Geoff! At least in my experience on the west coast, tons of those sorts of folks smoke weed.

ALLAH FROG (Mingus Dew), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:18 (nineteen years ago)

That Girl def would have smoked elsewhere.

gbx (skowly), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:21 (nineteen years ago)

haha i'm kind of a pansy when it comes to drugs, i guess i don't really know who i'm looking at.

maybe i just like that picture...

geoff (gcannon), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:25 (nineteen years ago)

084 looks a bit like Mandee...

pixel farmer (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:30 (nineteen years ago)

Well, Denver is quite near Boulder, isn't it?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 4 May 2006 18:33 (nineteen years ago)

AaronK (AaronK), Thursday, 4 May 2006 19:19 (nineteen years ago)

oh noes I've been identified...wearing pearls!!!!!!!

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Thursday, 4 May 2006 19:39 (nineteen years ago)

my friend called the number to see if it was real or not (it is, of course). he left a message. "looks like i missed a good time"

he wanted me to leave one saying "number 145 has been identified as someone i'd like to date"

W i l l (common_person), Thursday, 4 May 2006 20:04 (nineteen years ago)

IDENTIFIED

geoff (gcannon), Thursday, 4 May 2006 20:56 (nineteen years ago)

The more I think about it the more this IDENTIFIcation seems bogus to me. I mean to get $50 you'd basically have to call and say "heh hmm, this is Jason Robarts, I live at 123 E Main St, and I know who # 143 is, it's Annie Hopper, where can I pick up the $50?" For all the "IDENTIFIED" people to have been IDENTIFIED, there must have been a veritable torrent of calls. Are there that many narcs on the UC campus?
Seems just as likely that the cops might be trying to scare people.

Bnad (Bnad), Thursday, 4 May 2006 21:03 (nineteen years ago)

129 looks like a Chaska Girl in the film Fargo, and never shops for clothes anywhere but Target or the mall.

Jaymc, I can see you believe (oops, almost wrote 'think') you're entitled to single me out for something everyone else on a thread is doing, including you.

That girl is a composite of my sister's drinking buddies, none of whom are known for their inroads to academia.
