Tony Blair to be replaced by David Cameron

Vitbe... *pause*... Is Good Bread (Dada), Friday, 5 May 2006 08:45 (nineteen years ago)

I'm really hoping that "Rest Of The World Foreign Secretary" is the official job title.

Expect a Miliband or two to pop up

Vitbe... *pause*... Is Good Bread (Dada), Friday, 5 May 2006 08:58 (nineteen years ago)

So is Hewitt going?

beanz (beanz), Friday, 5 May 2006 08:59 (nineteen years ago)

... a clearly bitter Mr Clarke said it was "the prime minister's right" to remove him but added that he "did not agree" that he would have stood in the way of the reform that is needed at the Home Office. Downing Street confirmed that he had turned down the offer of another, possibly more junior, job.

the Enrique who acts like some kind of good taste gestapo (Enrique), Friday, 5 May 2006 09:01 (nineteen years ago)

Hazel Blears, the Home Office minister widely tipped for promotion to the cabinet, appeared in Downing Street just before 10am. Smiling at reporters, she nodded when asked if she had been given a cabinet job.

sickening.

"Prescott survives."

Blair can't sack him — as deputy leader of the party, only the NEC can. Though he has had many of his responsibilities taken away, presumably being handed off to one of the aforementioned Milibands.

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Friday, 5 May 2006 09:26 (nineteen years ago)

Reid's the new Home Sec.

That makes sense, he can really go to town with his "I'm a hardman" act. What a horrible man.

Reid Home Sec? Jeez, from one bully to an even worse one. Did you see him on C4 news the other night? What an aggressive, patronising bastard. Accusing Krishnan Guru Murphy and the press ("people like you" - that phrase) of creating a problem the public doesn't care about. Yeah, the supine public don't need journalists doing their job do they? They just need their cigarettes to help them get through their dreadful prole existence. CUNT!

John Reid will be at home in that Home Office role I think. He'll be like the nation's Mr McKay.

...at the end of day blair should announce that he is standing down.

A lame duck PM who is on a ticking countdown to leave and an office pervert for a deputy leader over retirement age with no cabinet portfolio ! = New Labour is a joke from the top down !

Meanwhile it's slowly sinking into LABOUR supporters: New Labour is "a Tory party in disguise"

http://society.guardian.co.uk/localgovt/story/0,,1768214,00.html
Labour lost control of Bolton, Derby, Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme. In Stoke, the defeated council leader, Mick Salih, said he would leave the Labour party because it had become "a Tory party in disguise".

My message: GET RID OF THIS HIDEOUS "NEW LABOUR" CENTRE RIGHT PARTY !

No to ID Cards - the most important issue !
No to sleaze
No to Iraq war
No to right wing Education reforms
No to Tuition fees
No to NHS mucked up by red tape and accountancy
No to rising Council Tax
No to rising retirement age
No to incompetence at the Home Office
No to pompous politicians cross ref with Pat Hewitt

When Blair eventually steps down will any Labour MP have the guts to stand against the "New Labour" banner, i.e reclaim "Traditional Labour Party" values - or will more Labour supporters drift to RESPECT or Lib Dems.

I love Have Your Say.

There all clowns! It's about time we had MP's in this country that want to make the Great Britain Great again.

When will they learn we need a government looking to the future and our childrens & not their next 4 yrs in office. We may have low interest rates & jobless but whats the point in the future if the only jobs available are in fast food chains and no-one can afford to buy a houses.

Rising taxes just feeds the spongers and does'nt help the people that really need it.

The whole thing reeks of Tony running out of people. He may well face the most disgruntled back bench in history. His standing is so low with them I think they'd vote against re-nationalising just to piss him off.

Soon Over Barabajagal (NickB), Friday, 5 May 2006 11:16 (nineteen years ago)

There's still a fair few untarnished hopefuls in the junior ranks and lesser cabinet posts for gordon to pick. I would put money on Hillary Benn getting Foreign or Home office under Brown and I doubt anyone would take a bet on Ed Balls becoming Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Talking of Chancellors are we still in the desparate crisis of not having a Chencellor of the duchy of Lancaster?

Ed (dali), Friday, 5 May 2006 11:21 (nineteen years ago)

Brown will ditch as many of the Blairites as he can get away with - remember these are the people who have been plotting him against for years

Vitbe... *pause*... Is Good Bread (Dada), Friday, 5 May 2006 11:24 (nineteen years ago)

Absolutely, I'm wondering if the Straw move is a sheep dip so that he can be rehabilitated into a frontline Brown Cabinet post.

I'm sure Brown gave Tony a list of people he'd rather not have Tony use.

Ed (dali), Friday, 5 May 2006 11:27 (nineteen years ago)

Brown could yet be overlooked. If Blair doesn't go this summer, I wouldn't be too shocked to see a Miliband being the Labour answer to Dave.

Hah. Like anyone cares about them.

Miliband might be a good shout, tactically, because he's kept a relatively low profile and is largely baggage-free and unlike Brown not associated with this govt's fuckups in the eyes of the public. Like Cameron then.
