I much much MUCH prefer typing over handwriting. My hand cramps and tires quickly when I handwrite; typing is something I often feel like I can do near indefinitely. It is much more 'natural' for me, for what it is worth, and as I've said before to others, the most practical class I ever took in high school was the half-year typing class. I'm still grateful for it to this day.

I actually got kicked out of typing class. It was the day we were to learn how to do a spread heading. Somewhere in the room an off color remark was made (it wasn't me - I swear!) and Mrs. Hagstrom, quite certain that it had been me, was a little less than lady-like in escorting me to the door.

xpost: yeah, when i'm interviewing people i still use pen and paper. not sure why, partly just the convenience. i've never liked taking real-time notes on a keyboard. i suppose that's just habit like anything else.

Does anyone have any recommendations of particular (qwerty) keyboards for typing more quickly/comfortably? Are those crazy ones with the keyboard split in 2 an advantage? Is this really worth $300?

My wife uses the Goldtouch and says that it fixed pains in her hand. You can change it around to all kinds of orientations, from standard to crazeeeee.

I love typing too! I used to hate it in school, but once I had to go off on my own and actually use what I'd learned, it turned out I wasn't too bad at it. Love keyboard action, with a good pop-py keyboard. Still kinda nostalgic for typewriters too.
Actually I've been thinking about my high school typing class lately, and Mr Green, our eccentric typing teacher.
He set all of our typing exercises to music. These are the 3 songs I remember; and they are now forever linked with CLACK CLACK CLACK SPACE CLACK CLACK CLACK SPACE CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK DING CARRIAGE RETURN
