how come when a girl goes to a niteclub wearing strappy shoes she gets straight in, but when a guy goes in with sandals he gets told he has to change them. WTF?

Because we are oppressed. See Trousers thread.

that's only in shit nightclubs though. Although I was under the illusion that stuff like that only happened in Dublin and the rest of the world was smarter. damn.

Ronan, Saturday, 26 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Actually, what am I thinking? Sandals? Too bloody right they turned him away.

N., Saturday, 26 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Nick is bang OTM, sandals? in a nightclub? have we not evolved far enough now to realise that this is unnacceptable behaviour? good grief, my mind is boggling.

Nobody wants to see men's feet.

yes i know sandals are a bit daggy, but it was one of my friends. the bouncers told him that it was for "health and safety", and i'm like hello! fuckmeshoes aren't exactly safe are they? also, i want to know why 22 year old women who dress modestly get asked for ID, but 17 year old girls in low cut tops don't?

there is no such thing as a good niteclub. give me a sifty-old-mans-pub with beer and a jukebox and a pool table anyday.

the last nightclub i went to had pretty good lighting displays and sporadically good air conditioning and the drinks were free till 11pm (but consisted mostly of water, duh). they cut off 'one more time' prematurely, though. tell me, do clubs in us/uk/wherever also have a rock period, where the dj plays the latest lousy 'modern rock' bands (eg. train, nickelback, creed)? i find it insufferable.

mitch lastnamewithheld, Sunday, 27 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It really depends on what kind of establishment the nightclub in question is, but I must say that there are many of them where I'd find sandals on men to be totally out of place, and objectionable.

Sean, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Was he wearing sandals wif white socks?

Mandee, Monday, 28 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

no he was sockless. hey can you all stop making fun of my friends dress sense.

Not that I'm aware of. Clubs here don't try to be all things to all men. Well, maybe they do in small towns, I don't know.

It's because the 17 year old girls in low cut tops are 17 year old girls in low cut tops. Do you see?

N., Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Clubs in Ireland do that. but you get to know which ones and then stop referring to them as clubs.

Theres 2 or 3 good clubs in Dublin, but that's not as bad as it sounds.

Ronan, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

clubs with clothing-related door policies are crap (unless it's some particularly glamorous event or club). London is pretty good for sensible bouncers in this respect - out in Zone 7 town centre nightclubs are without fail "No Trainers!" places, which just means you get smartly dressed violent yobs

michael, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yeah how many decent people wear "shoes and white socks" when they're going out. They look dead fuckin sharp don't they? Especially with those lovely gold rings, it's clear from wearing everything you own you must be respectable and classy. And while I'm in rant mode, what the hell is the idea in Dublin with every club having to close at 3 o clock? Hmmmmmm, let's close early enough so that EVERYONE stays until the end and then beats the shit out of each other on the streets and in the crowded chippers all over the place. Jesus if we stayed open later people might eat breakfast before communion or turn homosexual.

Ronan, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

As you can probably tell I'm REALLY looking forward to spending this weekend away.

Ronan, Tuesday, 29 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I meant to say "shoes and white shirts" but I guess white socks are pretty insane too.
