Central lounge view is nice too. If they don't have Martin Denny piped in for the entire trip they're missing a trick. I might actually be able to try this out soon since (potential delays aside) it's scheduled to open a short while before the whole family is due out there next summer for my parents' fortieth wedding anniversary.

This is true.

it looks like a slightly upscale version of the BC Ferries recent interior refurbishing! it's this mix of brand-new long-wearing (usually slightly shiny) fabrics and halogen spot lighting. it's like what i imagine middle-of-the-line hotels in vegas must be like. and it's also like new buses/coaches. what i'm saying is that while respectable, it's ultimately all about utility. Because it's a ferry. And ferries are buses of the sea. But way better. Especially if they're in Hawaii.

Aw yeah, those swells, baby. Dramamine luv.

DOQQUN (donut), Thursday, 11 May 2006 04:49 (nineteen years ago)

Vegas combined with a hint of Odyssey at LAX, which is no bad thing. Doqqun, you must be bold.

How does this differ from the Hollyhead Superferry?

Now, that's a ferry...

And - with all due respect to Hawaii - I'd rather be going to Ardnamurchan. Ahhhh...Ardnamurchan...

Ned T.Rifle (nedtrifle), Thursday, 11 May 2006 08:14 (nineteen years ago)

The Holyhead ferry made me sicker than I have ever been. It didn't help that me and my mate, on an exciting fun trip to Ireland, started the journey with a Baileys to toast our holiday. Funny how memories of nasuea can make you feel nauseous even a decade later.

four months pass...

Pretty good book detailing the whole Superferry fiasco from the author of Four Arguments For The Elimination Of Television

Something that I didn't know about any of this was the involvement of former Navy Secretary John Lehman. The ferry had little to do with taking people around the Hawaiian islands and everything to do with being a tech demo for a military cargo catamaran that can motor across the Pacific in advance of a conflict with the Chinese.

The unofficial Hawaii Superferry Blog is now sort of a booster for aluminum-hulled military transports taking time out to detail the Chinese equivalents.

Oh yeah, it stopped operating last month. Call it Conspiracy Ferry
