Does anyone else remember the Guys Next Door?

They were, if I recall correctly, a singing group with a Saturday morning TV show. They seemed to be capitalizing on the success of the New Kids -- this was right around the time they got really massive (summer 1988?)

I just remembered them in a blinding flash because someone at work said "bad hair day" -- immediately the song came into my mind, and the image: a guy banging away at his massive coif with a foam hammer.

WTF.

It's all coming back. I had their cassette tape, which had mint green and pink on it, maybe.

One was Latino and named something like Garcia, one looked about 2 and had rosey cheeks. Gotta google now.

Theme song is coming back: dumb as hell.

Included the lyric "We're the guys next door/the surprise next door."

Admit it -- all music since then has paled in comparison.

Even as a nine-year-old I was like "these are balls lyrics."

I enjoyed it on some level though. I guess I thought the boys were cute and the skits were funny.

Lyrics to '(We're The) Guys Next Door'

We're the guys...
We're the guys next door,
We're the guys next door, whoa-oh
Ready to roll (Let's go!)
We're the guys next door,
The surprise next door, whoa-oh
Let's roll...whoa-oh
Let's roll...
We like to party like you like to party
Ya gotta get to it if you wanna do it
With the guys next door, whoa-oh

They always say we try too hard
That's okay...in our own backyard
Life's a party...we can't control
And in our neighborhood
The word is hot, out on every street
You can dance, Spin that beat!

At every corner, there's another surprise
Whenever you're hangin,' hangin'
With the guys

We're the guys...
We're the guys next door,
We're the guys next door, whoa-oh
Ready to roll (Let's go!)
We're the guys next door,
The surprise next door, whoa-oh

There's no stoppin'...when we amplify
We're not the best...
But at least we try (At least we try)

We're the guys...
We're the guys next door,
We're the guys next door, whoa-oh

You may see us cruisin' with the crowd
Callin' all the ladies...right out loud
Gotta jam...get some big fun
Pumpin' up the power...and gettin' dumb
Anything can happen, on the block
So get ready...get ready to rock!
We are the real thing, ain't no disguise
That's the way it is
When you're hangin' with the guys...

Let's roll...whoa-oh
Let's roll...whoa-oh...slap down!

Let's roll...whoa-oh
Let's roll...whoa-oh...slap down!

We like to party like you party
We like to party like you party
Ya gotta get to it if you wanna do it
Ya gotta get to it if you wanna do it

City boy or small town girl
Everyday people all over the world
Another place, another name
We're all so different
But we're all the same

We're the guys...
We're the guys next door,
We're the guys next door, whoa-oh
Ready to roll (Let's go!)
We're the guys next door,
The surprise next door, whoa-oh
Let's roll...whoa-oh
Let's roll...whoa-oh...slap down!
Let's roll...whoa-oh
Let's roll...whoa-oh...slap down!

God, not real descriptive on the one fan site:

"Guys Next Door were a pop group in 1991. They released one album. It was called Guys Next Door. It featured several songs. Two or three singles entered the top ten on the charts."

As opposed to none.

I saw the thread title and instantly the one line from their theme song poped into my head,
"We're the guys next door, We're the guys next door, whoa-oh".
That is all I remember tho. whoa-oh.

Thank god there is someone else!

I'm amazed that that theme has stuck in my head for all these 16 years.

In 9th grade, I went with my girlfriends to Paramus Park to a Guys Next Door apperance/ autograph session. I had no interest in them, so I went to Sam Goody and got a Depeche Mode CD.

Some of the girls there were craaaaazy.

I always thought that if I could change only one person's life, this thread would be worth it.

roxymuzak, Thursday, 15 November 2007 21:22 (eighteen years ago)

Rather obvious "Pump Up the Jam" lift in that tune.
